So I was looking around at Google hits on Imagio and found a review that said that the Imagio kickstand doubled as an antenna.

HTC Imagio review: Windows Mobile has never looked so good : Entertainment : WEYI NBC25

I don't think I remember seeing any sort of reference similar to this for the Evo....

Could the EVO kickstand also double as an antenna for the FM tuner ??

:confused::confused:

FYI - I just did a Google search on "imagio + kickstand + loose" (Imagio is a Verizon phone made by HTC that HAS a kickstand and has been around for a bit) and didn't find any relevant results in the links for the first few pages - you can check it out yourself if you like: imagio + kickstand + loose - Google Search

I remember this question being ask in one of the vids from Vegas and the guy from HTC saying no.

It may have been discussed in this thread already, so I apologize in advance if it already has and I missed it when reading through, but I saw in one of the videos on youtube that the EVO only goes into landscape mode for video playback, picture and I believe messaging (text/email).

Can anyone confirm?
My HTC Hero has an earlier version of Sense UI and none of the 7 home screens or Sense screens if you want to call them that, will rotate to landscape. That's one of the big reasons I want a bigger screen, because the keyboard is too cramped in portrait mode. Most everything else does rotate to landscape mode, including the browser, most apps and the other widgets you mentioned.

It would be really nice if HTC put rotation for Sense on the EVO because of it's huge screen but I don't think that is going to happen.

That's a really good question. But I have only seen it advertised as a way to hold the phone up to watch video's. But I doubt it.

In the video, it was already mentioned that it does NOT double as any type of antenna, its just a regular kickstand, nothing more. the FM tuner is done through the earphone.

I am new to Android, but I really familiar with win mobile. They have a program called gyrator, that allows you to customize which programs and functions auto rotate to landscape mode. I am sure there is an app for this or someone could request an app for that. Don't think it would be to hard for someone who is experienced, since the evo has a G-sensor.

I don't think an app like that will work on the home screens, but that's just my opinion, because I've never seen Sense UI in landscape mode.

From the videos I've seen, the EVO does a lot in landscape mode.
Most everything works in landscape except the Sense homes screens that I talked about a minute ago.

I have a touch pro with a custom rom and my Sense UI will switch to landscape mode when I slide out my keyboard. So I would think it is possible. i am pretty sure android would be able to support it if Win mobile can.lol

Thanks, billsmed. The more I'm thinking about it, TouchFlo 3D doesn't have a portrait mode on the Touch Pro either. It goes to this generic homescreen (that I personally don't like much) whenever the keyboard was opened.

From one of the videos I was looking at, the HERO was able to type in landscape mode when texting/emailing. I really hope this is the case because that would make me hesitate big time (unless of course there's an app that'll allow for it to do so).

I works on some of the custom roms. Ex. Mine. I just took a pic of my Sense UI Screen (TF3D) in landscape mode but for some reason my uploaded pic fails.

Here you go!

i got a question do you think that the EVO will come with the extra internal memory like the Incredible???

Jackson said it will probably have 8GB or more. I hope it has at least 8.

The WM Sense is completely different from the Android Sense. The mods are not interchangeable so there will be differences.

I know, but I bet someone from xda will find away to incorperate it into a rom, or just build an app. All it does is use the G-sensor. Don't think it will be that hard.

Well, I'm glad that the Iphone will finally be upgraded to be a smartphone :).

Though one thing I am curious about is their new gaming aspect, wherein it'll be possible to have leaderboards, matchmaking, achievements, etc, for games.

Though even in that sense, they're copying Xbox Live.

Steve Jobs was quoted in an engadget article about "Doing multitasking better" than everyone else, but I'm not sure how you can even improve upon it very much.

Anyway, as others have mentioned, it's a little late for these 'upgrades' they are bringing.

There will be more innovation on the EVO with the faster 4G for better and more creative apps and the like.

I played with a T-Mobile HD2 today. Holy Crap!!!!! It's hard to imagine the EVO is even BETTER than this phone. It has such a solid build quality...and the screen. You think you're missing out because the screen isn't AMOLED???? I was playing with it OUTSIDE under the bright sun and it was still very visible. I'm not a Windows mobile fan at all so I can't comment on that, but the touch interface and speed - amazing. For a second I felt what would be like to hold an EVO in my hand and wow. I really really can't wait now. The only thing I didn't like about the HD2 were the buttons that kind of stuck out in the bottom of the phone - but the EVO has them perfectly flush and smooth. They are also integrated as touch buttons not mechanical push buttons.

Soo yeah I know it was a short review of the HD2 but if you guys haven't played with one then I'm just letting you know we're DEFINITELY in for a treat with the EVO. We are gonna go NUTS over that phone

Okay guys...I'm totally soft brained right now...cramming for a work related test tommorrow....and I've read all the posts since my last post....but I just want to make it all very stupid and simple...like I feel in this moment. Okay....here goes....drum roll please.....

If I were to, HYPOTHETICALLY (since we can't do it yet) lay an Incredible (on Verizon) down on the table next to an EVO 4G (on Sprint in a WiMax area)....and then click on the same link on both phones at the same time...which phone would get me to the web site faster?

Okay, and not just which one is faster...but how much faster? Is it negligible...or quite noticeable?

Okay...now same scenario for trying to watch a Youtube video....which one will load the video faster?

All the talk of download and upload speeds and theoretical this's and that's just went right over my mind-numb head. Gotta get some sleep...but hope to come back to an answer or two. Sorry if I'm a bit slow on the uptake...just want to understand if there will be a noticable speed difference between the two carriers....and these two phones.

THANKS!!!

They will both be able to stream youtube videos but if you are in a 4G area you will get high quality video on the EVO vs the Incredible, it really is quite a difference. Of course if they are both on WiFi or 3G then their is no difference.

Sprint claims their 4G service will download between 3 megabit and 6 megabit per second (vs .6 to 1.7 megabit for 3G). These are hypothetical, I get around 400-500 kb/sec here in Arizona on 3G with Sprint. Some on Verizon claim they get around 800-1000 kb/sec.

With that being said, people are claiming between 2 and 3 megabit/second download speeds all around on WiMAX. Obviously they're not using a WiMAX PHONE though since that's what we're all waiting for around here.. But it's safe to say the EVO will download and display a webpage or play a youtube video at least twice as fast as on Verizon's Incredible (it's only really "incredible" to those unaware of the EVO).
