...please take the iPhone talks to an apple forum. This thread is for the EVO 4G/WiMax. Most of us here are not all interested to hear good or bad things about apple or the iPhone.

As far as the EVO, we now have seven more days before the news and excitement starts to overcome all these "other" discussions and puts the sour apple back where it belongs so we can continue to salivate over the sweet EVO!

No offense, but like it or not every smart phone is benchmarked against the iPhone - iPhone news affects everybody even if you don't like it to. Combine that with there is absolutely nothing new to talk about the Evo and its going to be a popular topic while everybody sits around twiddling their thumbs.

True dat! I just think that if people want to read about the iPhone, there are places they can go for that. But, if someone wants to read about the EVO and clicks on this thread, they probably more times than not don't want to read about the iPhone. That is why there are threads titled accordingly. Also No offense.

That might seem like a lot, but ask just about anyone on the street and I'll bet they'll tell you they never heard of the HTC Incredible. It's only a small group here on AF that are really interested.

There are literally like 150 regulars on the Incredible thread and they have done almost all of the posting. No way to determine how many more just read from the sidelines, but I doubt it is a ton more. I was on that thread 5-10 times a day and posting 2-3 times a day, for about 2 months I think. I was NOT one of the regulars. There are a number of folks there that have racked up 500+ posts, just on that thread.

So, like Bill says, it's popularity isn't nearly what the folks on that thread make it out to be.

No offense SprintFun, but I agree with T Mac. I'm really tired of hearing it also. There's no reason the EVO should be compared to the iPhone, but once it's released, I'm sure we'll start hearing all the "iPhone killer" crap which the media seems to enjoy feeding us.

Since this is the EVO forum, I think that's what we should talk about. Apple already gets enough attention without our help. Enough already.

I am heavily invested in both Netflix and Sprint. Netflix, because they are the future of video and we love our video Sprint, because they hav been beaten down and the stock is a steal. If the Evo does what we think it will for their reputation and WiMax continues to get broad support, Sprint could be back in the 30-40 range in a year or two. It is 3-4 bucks now.

Sprint will need to heavily invest in its infrastructure, and the real payoff would be 3-4 years down the road (if successful in this great 4G adventure).

HTC has so many product lines that a "hit" on 1 or 2 may not necessarily improve their overall bottom line.

Should have bought Google when I was having the same conversation with myself a few years ago...

HTC is not on the American market, and I bought 1000 shares of sprint a week ago on a stock simulator actually...the market is up BIG today....Sprint is currently at $4.10 and I bought it at $3.87 - up $230 overall and $100 today alone.

Even the stocks I bought on a whim are up nicely today after they had been dragging me down - maybe I need to cut them lose

LOL...I have some family friends that actually invested in Google in the VERY early beginning of dear beloved Google! Well when the stock prices surged they became incredibly nervous and decided it would be best to sell the stock before the bottom fell out of it. Long story short they have realized the bottom never fell out, and has only grown and become more and more valuable. In the end of this all they are severely kicking themselves, and now cannot afford a share of Google. LOL kind of funny, maybe that'll happen with Spring...one could hope =)

Hey gang,

I posted in the Incredible "official thread" asking this question, but no replies, so I thought I would check in this thread.

Does anyone have any arguments for why a person would go with the Verizon Incredible versus the Sprint EVO?

The 2 and only 2 reasons I could come up with were:
1. Earlier launch and release date by 6 to 8 weeks depending on the days current rumor.

2. A preference to go with Verizon service/coverage over Sprint. I think most would agree that Verizon is either the best network or one of the best.

Outside of that, I can't think of anything the Incredible outshines the EVO on, and quite the opposite, the EVO seems to have as good or better specs than the Incredible on every aspect.

Any thoughts? I'm up for a new every 2 with Verizon next month and I'm trying to decide whether to go with the Incredible or make the switch to Sprint in June when the EVO launches.

THis may be a late answer, but the 3 reasons I can think of would be:

1. amoled screen, if you prefer those and don't plan on using your phone in sunlight

2. verizon network, which is great coverage in remote areas for 3g, but Sprint can use verizon for standard 1x voice calls. No verizon 4g though, for a while.

3. smaller screen and slightly lighter phone. So, if you have awesome eyes and tiny fingers, you may like that feature

Other than that, Evo blows it away.

Not to get ot but its not JUST because of marketing. I have said this over and over again, its user experience. Joe Consumers don't care about rooting, have any interest in jail breaking, installing unauthorized apps. They want something thats easy and fun to use. They don't care about how much RAM or switching apps or having dual core cpu or using your phone to make coffee. Windows Mobile phones have been doing what the iphone can for years and so has Palm, but they never caught on with the general consumers, why? They're not easy to use. Unless you're a tehno geek. Remember something, just because its easy for you as a tech geek, doesn't mean its easy for Joe Consumer. I will never buy a computer, I rather make my own, but out of the millions of americans, how many actually build their own? They want one simple package that they don't have to worry about or tweak, they just want it to work and thats why Apple will always be miles ahead of the competition. Its not WHAT it can or can't do, its about the user experience! Some people on here just don't seem to get that.

I agree that the average user doesn't care or may not even know about rooting or flashing and such i know a lot about these things but I have never done them to my own phone. But what I was getting at is they do care about being able to make and maintain a phone call. (not so easy to do with an iPhone) And yes I agree people want ease of use and or functionality but come on, the iPhone may be easy to use but it has lacked very basic features from day one until now i.e. picture mail and video recording and more. Android isn't completely a no brainer experience like the iPhone nor is it a chore like WinMo and it still manages to offer the best of both in an attractive package which is getting better every day. If Android would offer notifications more like WebOs as well as the ability to end programs as slick as WebOs's flick to close then I would call it the PERFECT Os. Just my humble uneducated opinion. I said it before and I will say it again. The Evo is going to be a game changer, not only for Sprint but also for WiMax, Android and the standard to which we all hold cellular technology to. In my opinion the Evo is going to be the phone everyone thought the iPhone was back in '07 as well as what every phone is going to aspire to be or beat for a while to come. Google should have released the Evo as its flagship instead of the Nexus One (which is also a great phone in it's own right). But anyway just think in about 12 weeks we will be dying for the EVO XL which we will begin hearing rumors about in 10 weeks

Some more Netflix news - hopefully this will mean that the amount of things you can stream will be improved...as it stands now its just "ok" (except for TV series).

Also don't forget we'll have Sprint TV on our Evos, which isn't too shabby itself. I have it on my Instinct and its nice, but the Instinct can't fully take advantage of it.

Yeah, foriegn stocks are a pain to trade, or I would own HTC as well. However, the Apple lawsuit might shy me away. Kind of a wild card.

I don't think you will find a better time to buy Sprint. They have been terribly low for a while and while the prices fluctuate, I can't think of a better time for a short term (at least) investment than right before an Evo launch.

I still kick myself for not buying Palm on the even of the rumored "Nova" launch. It went from something like $1.52 at its low to maybe $15-20 at the height of the Pre's popularity. That would have been a hella nice payoff but I didn't have any cash to gamble on a short term investment last year.

A bit OT, but:

Palm, the forlorn stepchild of the smartphone world, has suddenly become the belle of the ball, with Lenovo and now HTC rumoured to be bidding for the company.
Apparently Peter Chou, CEO of HTC, has been involved in high-level meetings at CTIA, and the whole company is currently involved in due diligence, examining how the smaller smartphone maker will fit in in their structure.

How easy is it to do that? Is it just as simple as it would be to flash a ROM upgrade or cooked ROM for WinMo 6.5? Reason I ask is I may try it out, prior to getting the EVO, just to get used to Android. And, how easy would it be to revert back to WinMo 6.5?

This is a horrible first post, but I love Android, i love getting EVO info first. So, I guess here is a stock tip. GOIG. I am up 70% in two weeks. Research it. It's going to be big. It's basically marketing where the consumer uses texts. I guess it's off topic, but check it out.

On the EVO side, I've heard a couple different release dates, all in June. But haven't heard much about the OS version lately. Any insiders with more info?

As much as I hope the Evo will be a gamer changer for Sprint, I really don't think its going to happen. And the ONLY reason I say that is when WebOS debuted in CES last Jan 09, there was nothing else that mattered on the blogs BUT WebOS. Everyone and their mother was talking about it, a lot more so than how they're talking about the Evo.

You're talking about a weak underdog that people have basically written off myself included. But when they demoed the Pre, everyone esp myself was awe struck. This is a completely new OS built from the ground up. Using it seemed so intuitive and simple. So polished and refined. It was a grueling 6 months til it was released. It was a pretty historical moment for Sprint since it was the exclusive carrier at the time. And it came out JUST a couple of weeks before the 3GS when countless videos of the Pre vs. 3G also came out. It didn't do too much to give Sprint that much of a boost and I bought it launch day and returned it in about 3 weeks, so thus I believe this won't be a game changer with the Evo. Most people on here that believe this will propel Sprint to a higher level or think that the Evo will put the hurt on the compeition are enthusiasts and of course, we as enthusiasts think the handset that we want/desire can do no wrong and is the best handset out there bar none, much like sports fanatics thinking their team is the best.

I certainly hope I'm wrong and I hope the Evo will lift Sprint to a new stratasphere, but I'm a realist and I always look to the past to predict the future. Regardless, I will still be getting the Evo when it comes out because Android is a more mature OS than a year ago and has pretty much everything that I'm looking for plus the modernized Sense UI. New York is on the list of receiving 4G at year end which means most likely early next year.

It's even easier you just download a floder to your SD and execute Haret.exe from within that folder and it doesn't overwrite your winmo. you boot off the SD card and when you soft reset it goes back to winmo just like you left it.

I played with a T-Mobile HD2 today. Holy Crap!!!!! It's hard to imagine the EVO is even BETTER than this phone. It has such a solid build quality...and the screen. You think you're missing out because the screen isn't AMOLED???? I was playing with it OUTSIDE under the bright sun and it was still very visible. I'm not a Windows mobile fan at all so I can't comment on that, but the touch interface and speed - amazing. For a second I felt what would be like to hold an EVO in my hand and wow. I really really can't wait now. The only thing I didn't like about the HD2 were the buttons that kind of stuck out in the bottom of the phone - but the EVO has them perfectly flush and smooth. They are also integrated as touch buttons not mechanical push buttons.

Soo yeah I know it was a short review of the HD2 but if you guys haven't played with one then I'm just letting you know we're DEFINITELY in for a treat with the EVO. We are gonna go NUTS over that phone
