Root [ROM] MidnightRom: Senseless

Do you have smart flash still enabled in ext recovery?

I have tried both ways. No matter what I do all the previous ROMs do not work. I may be missing something, I went back to Leslie Ann thread and started to do those there but still gives me a bootloop. I tried to upload twrp but it does not let me it gives me an error of some sort.

Ok Finally was able to fix it. I went to hboot 1.57.5757 and was able to install the ROM, I have to go back to recovery recovery-twrp-shooter-1.1.1.img. I will install 4ext ROM. I need the flexibility of going back and forth between ROMs. Thanks for your advice.

Hi there everyone...I ask that you please bear with me as I ask too many obvious questions please?

Another user (youngSWi) in a different thread suggested this ROM in response to my question about which would be best for 1. best battery life and 2. move toward more personal privacy (reduced logging, etc.).

And I am willing, even eager, to try to do this if I can feel secure that the new ROM won't introduce issues of it's own and that nothing is 'broken' (doesn't work) on the phone as a result.

What I'm coming from: Latest Harmonia ROM 3.17 (with all the HBOOT, radio, PRI, and PRL updates), SHOOTER XC ENG S-OFF RL, HBOOT 1.04.2000.

GooManager says the ROM is current, and offers this MidnightRomS as 'compatible'. I 'think' I installed TWRP 2 recovery from GooManager (but don't see where that info. is now, so can't say exactly which version it is or if it's actually there?).

So now please, exactly, what steps (in 1, 2, 3 fashion) do I perform to get to this ROM with the least complications...(because if I have issues I will probably not have a clue about how to resolve them).

I am so very much in hopes that after all this unlocking, rooting, S-OFF, "Fix everything thread", and ROM and recovery changes, that this Evo V will FINALLY be able to go a whole day with light/medium-light use without worrying about where to plug in all the time (or whether I might as well have an HTC/government tracking chip in my head)!

Kindly appreciated!!!

The midnight ROMs have excellent battery, but if you worry about battery issues you probably want to spend on a better battery than what the EVo V comes with. Even a cheap battery has given me better battery life than the stock battery.
From my experience if you want to install ICS without issues you better have hboot 1.57, if you want to install JB ROMs then go with 1.50/1.04 however I prefer 1.50 Hboot.

Getting a whole day out of the battery is something everyone here struggles with. That being said, with Harmonia I had to plug in at 7pm, with Midnight I can make it to 11pm (bedtime :o ).
Personally I haven't found anything that doesn't work with this ROM. After turning on WI-FI, I did notice that I had to reboot the phone today to get it to see my network this morning. Not sure if that is the ROM or my router.

As for flashing --- BACKUP EVERYTHING!!!!. Get an app (or two) for backing up contacts and SMS. (I use Super Backup.) Backup you apps with something like Titanium or my preferred My Backup Pro. If your launcher has a backup feature .... use that too.

1. Go into recovery (hold the power button, choose Restart, then choose Recovery).
2. Wipe Menu, wipe cache and dalvik cache (I do both twice), back to main menu
3. Nandroid Menu you Backup Partitions, back to main menu
4. Install Zip Menu, find your ROM zip file on your SD and flash it.
5. Reboot into new ROM goodness :D

Then you can start restoring your apps, contacts and SMS. If you want to go back to your previous setting, go back to Recovery and Restore your Nandroid backup. That will put you back where you started ..... apps and all.

Thanks a lot for the great rom, I had one question however...how does one set alarms using this rom? I tried pretty hard to find a clock app to set the alarm but I haven't met much success...
Is there any way to get back the system clock with alarms? The feature is extremely important because I have no alarm clock and I have to get up for work every morning relying on my cellphone alarm

There are tons of free alarm clock apps in the Play Store.....just use one of those. I use Alarm Clock Plus.

Otherwise another good choice is clock.apk from a CM9 or CM10 rom. They both work well, have no problems, and will give you a completely google stock android experience.

Thanks I was looking for one such experience actually, where would I find downloadable links to such apk? And would I hav to install them as a system apk?

You do not have to install a clock as a sytem apk. Personally I use Alarm Clock Xtreme, from the Play Store. I really like the "volume crescendo" feature.

I understand the ability to use third party apps as the alarm but what I'm looking for here is a system clock app that uses the phones alarm. I've tried using many of the third party apps from the play store but there are times when they just don't ring because they got terminated in some way. If anyone can point me to a proper system clock apk that I can install on the phone, I'd be very grateful! :-)

There's a link to the google system clock apk I use. I believe it is from CM9 if I remember correctly. I can verify this does work reliably on this rom. I use it on a daily basis with no issues. I installed it as a regular app also without issue. I recommend doing the same or else anytime you update the rom you will need to reinstall as a system app.

This was exactly what I was looking for... Thank you so much, sir. This is now the perfect ROM for me until a stable jellybean midnight is released! :D :D :D
