Help google play doesn't work

Hello people
Google play stopped working on my HTC Desire for some reason also Google play services has disappeared from my applications' list. I tried restarting it several times but it still doesn't work.
I have 2.2.2 Android version and the phone isn't rooted.
Please help

As far as I know is for these Android versions Play Store named as Market.

Application's list means Settings, Applications, Manage applications, All ....? or applications tray?

Try settings>applications>manage applications. Select the all tab & scroll down to either google play or market as appropriate. Then clear data.

If that doesn't work follow the same route & uninstall updates. That should return you to the original market which should then re-update to google play within a couple of launches.

Thank you for your help uninstalling updates fixed the problem.
