Root 4ext question.

Newbie
this is my main question, for the 4ext recovery, should i install the latest version ppl are testing or should install the one with the most downloads? because the download number fluctuates between newer and older ones..im quite nervous at which ones to use.


also should i install the anthrax kernel? do i really need it? or can i just install any rom without it? or would it just be a plus to have it???

i just want to make i do this right because this is such a freaking complex process from my old Moto triumph lol

As far as 4EXT, I'm still on the same one...1.0.0.5? I Think thats the version! It works great for me! (Maybe someone can clarify what one is best..but whatever the most recent stable one is fine.)

As far as Antrhax...thats a choice! Thats the great thing. You have CHOICES. Try it, see if you like it!

Regarding 4EXT versions, I recommend always updating to the current version because Max (madmaxx82 on XDA) is very thorough in his testing and his updates have always been solid. I've worked with him on some of that testing so I know how careful he is.

For the kernel, it's really up to you. I use ButteredToast to get features like sweep2wake and OTG, but rarely overclock or undervolt. If you don't need the features, the performance is really good with the AOSP Jelly Bean ROM's so I'd recommended starting with the stock kernel for those ROM's until you get some experience using them.

ohh thank you!, it take me awhile to get used to this forum layout lol


oh and like all the newe ones are like 1.0.0.5 the only things that are different are the "Rc#" which one do you use???

and i will try anthrax^^ thanks os much for your input!

Ohh whats sweep2wake and OTG, so much i want to consider ^^


so stock kernel roms i dont have to do anything special? its already there?

sweep2wake is where your screen is off, and you drag your finger across the capacitive buttons to wake it up. Some people find it really useful. Me, not really. Its a personal preference, though. OTG...well, Ramjet may need to chime in for that one.

Stock kernel with stock ROMs...depends on the ROM and the developer, actually. If its a fully stock kernel, its exactly what the phone has when you get it. Then there's more or less "tweaked stock" which can be overclocked and whatnot. Then there's ones based on the Linux 3.0 kernel, which are seriously customized (ButtereDToast, Anthrax, Mac)

Its all preference, though. I would say check them all out, find what suits you best. (I flash two-three roms a day.)

I used the latest RC version for it and have had no problems. I believe it's the first one listed.

If you want to overclock then get anthrax, butteredtoast or my favorite MAC.

Once you do this enough times, it'll be like riding a bike.

Just look at the release date on the latest release. If there were issues, they'd be hashed out by now. Do all the latest releases stay in test status until replaced by a newer version, or could a new release come off testing status before being replaced as latest and greatest?
