Root Update denied

If you lose root then reroot simple as that.

Losing root is not my main concern; it is the thought of possibly "bricking". I have only moderately altered my device with TB and AdAway, and have removed select pieces of bloatware, but since this is my only usable phone, I don't feel comfortable not being certain that my device will update without "major" issues.

Well my phone was messed up. Since I was rooted and on deodexed base rom I couldn't use the ota so I tried to restore my stock backup but got md5sum mismatch. I found a fix on xda and got the restore to somewhat work but it was exactly like what I had on the deodexed rom only odexed now, mods and all. I did the update with the update tool no problems it will overwrite whatever you modded so I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure you don't unplug it that's it.

and in my case...

All I have done is rooted, added TB and froze a few things, and changed the notification bar(SystemUI.apk). I actually defrosted all the things I had froze and it still failed OTA

How do I tell if I have deodexed (or odexed)? I have not done anything that I know of in particular that mentions that being done to my phone. My phone is still running mostly the way it came from Metro, save the root and alterations previously mentioned, and I have moved some (not many) apps to SD card.

You have to install recovery and flash the rom so there is no way yours is deodexed. You can also check in system/apps in a root explorer and see odex files (which you will)

If you never flashed a ROM on to your phone and only rooted than you have an odexed ROM. Deodex means that APK's don't have a separate .odex file to function. I.e: in an odexed ROM you'll find in system/app mms.apk AND a mms.odex files, in a deodexed ROM you'll only finda mms.apk
Hope that answers your question :)

As to why some people are able to update OTA while rooted why others can't; maybe the OTA updater checks to see if bloatware is missing (the ones you can uninstall without root). Because I've read that some people just root and don't debloat their phone while others do. The same way Morningcall checks to make sure some apks are there before allowing boot to continue.

Mine wouldn't ota update and its rooted. I am on the deodexed ROM, but not debloated. I've only disabled the metro apps. So idk. Same happened before I went from c to d. Oh well. I'll hold out on updating for a while.

I decided that since I just did a complete backup, I would take a chance at OTA update. It went flawlessly, and I retained root - and after the update, several other apps decided they needed updates as well (all user apps like Angry Birds Star Wars, androrec, and one other). All went flawless.

I read above that it (might) have improved battery life/usage. Any easy way to tell other than to just wait and see if that is truly included? My motion literally eats its battery sometimes... it sure would be nice to know if LG has addressed this.

Mine wouldn't accept the ota either. I didn't delete any bloatware, but i do have Google now and the CRT animation, though.

I have Google now as well. I don't think that affects it though. I'll just wait to flash through the unbrick method or until there is a ROM.

OK so I flash the new update with kdz, what was weird was, while it was still flashing the phone rebooted and start up and the flash process was still going. End up loosing root access so I root it back..and now noticing my rom storage is very low with only 256 free..is that even normal? I cant remember it being that low.

Oh crap..what do I do about that now? I already did a factory reset with the updated rom and out of 1.05 system rom...256 free...AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
oh yea and I also did a clear dalvik cache cleaning too...that didn't help

I'm not rooted.

When I updated from "c" to “d" it added more background processes, seemed to slow the phone down a bit.

Should I go to “e" ?

IMO, everyone should stay on C... There's more battery life, less background processes, and overall less strain on the phone.... Again, this is IMO...

I still can't understand y some can update while being rooted. I know I can't but I'll start on c until I'm convinced it's worth it.
