The speaker line cover its blue not red.....
actually it has a silver finish. I guess thats just the overhead lights reflecting. In a article I read they said that the actual speaker cover would be silver instead of red on the production units.

This phone = win.

Interesting atmel Corp tidbit:

Extremely low current consumption: < 1.8 mW in "touch-ready" state
Two touch adjacency of less than 10 mm on a 4.3" touchscreen....

4.3 specifically referenced.

power consumption has to be one of the reasons they ditched their old touch chip provider.

I currently have an AT&T account which ends in the middle of August. I'm definitely getting the EVO so I was wondering if I will be charged an early termination fee when I sign up for Sprint in June?

Any ideas to get around this? Some say Sprint gives new customers $150 discount or covers early termination fee's if you switch over to them.

I would just port the number and pay the etf. You will still have 2 and a half months left which would probably be the same amount as the etf. Just time to cut and run!! Sprint rocks!!!!!
Don't know about Sprint covering the etf, but I'm sure somebody here will know and give you a more educated response.

If you switch in June but your contract is not done until August you will get an early termination fee. Thing is AT&T has to prorate it so it will not be the full amount. It shound be no more than around $50 plus tax.

You will get the $150 discount on the price of a new phone (which can be confusing, more on that later), but Sprint will not pay any portion of your Early Termination Fee. I've never heard of Sprint offering to pay any part of the ETF, even if you're bringing over a bunch of lines.

The $150 discount is basically the maximum discount a customer can receive on any device. It entitles you to AT LEAST $150 off the full retail price of any phone. For the basic flip phones, you'll probably just save that $150, then pay the difference, and in most cases receive a mail-in rebate on top of that. For the pricier models and smartphones, that $150 generally turns out to be more.

For example, the old Blackberry Curve, the 8330, retailed for $549.99. When Sprint announced the newer Curve, they dropped the price so that your $150 discount became $400 of instant savings. Customer pays the remaining $150, and receives a $100 mail-in rebate to bring the bottom line cost down to $50 (plus tax).

Im in the same boat as him actually. I think they only take $5 off for every month into the contract. I would be ending my contract after 22 months versus the full 24 months, and I think the ETF is like 200 if I remember correctly. That means the new ETF is around 90$. My bill is 80$ per month

I have no knowledge of how any other carriers handle their ETF prorations, but I know since Sprint started doing it, they will not go below $50, even if your contract is due to expire the next day.

Does AT&T allow you to lower your rate plan without charging you? If so I would think about lowering my plan to the cheapest possible for two months. Then sign up for a new sprint line. If you have a google voice account use that for two months. Then when your AT&T contract is up you can port your number over to sprint. This would help save you some of ETF because you would be paying for the plan. This will also let you know which is more beneficial either paying the ETF or keeping the line active.

My brother wanted to go to Verizon (until the EVO showed its face), and he called them stating that he still had a few months left on his contract with T-Mobile. He may have gotten lucky, but they said they could give him discounts for those few months that would total the cost of the early termination fee. So he would have to pay the ETF to T-Mobile, but, in the end, he gets his money back and pays nothing.

That's interesting, so power consumption will be lower than the older screens other HTC phones use, couple that with the 1500 mAh battery (as opposed to the standard 1300 or 1400 of other phones) and I think we really may not have to worry too much about running through the battery too quickly.

Perhaps the bigger battery and more efficient touch-screen will make it up for the fact that AMOLED supposedly saves on 20% power.

I'll likely still buy another battery anyway.

I'm not sure, does anyone know how much power a touch-screen sensor uses? I can't imagine it uses a noticeable amount but I could be wrong.

I just talked to a sales rep just to ask if it will be available for telesales (just wanted to know what they'd say). First of all - she didn't even know what an "EVO" was. She said

"umm ok let me ask my supervisor when that will be available"

then "oh we're not sure when it will be available but can I interest you in another phone such as the Palm Pre?"

ME: No thanks I already have that phone - can't you see that in my account? I called because I was interested in the EVO.

Her: "ok we can call you when it becomes available for sale. What's your number?"

ME: I just gave it to you. It was the first question you asked me when you answered.

Her: "oh ok. While I have you on, can I interest you in some accessories for your Palm Pre?"

ME: No thanks I have them all.

Her: "but I can give you a special discount on a blueto....

ME: <click>

LMFAOOO That was just hysterical lol

LMFAOOO That was just hysterical lol

She is going to call him back and be like,

"Sir I can do this for you, I can give you 10% off any charger for your Pre" lol

Its sad that they dont know about the evo. They should all be informed about all phones that sprints have specially this one.

Sorry if this has been posted before....lurking in these forums can take it's toll. I provide the following link to a very interesting article. Along with a great collection of photos at the end it also addresses WiMax speed in Las Vegas during CTIA. Like I said...I'm sure this isn't new stuff...but a good read and might be nice for some of the newer people arriving here. It has me "revved" up! I especially like the mention of how Google Maps runs at 4G speeds. Btw...I just decided to run some searches to see what has been said and what is being said about this phone. Anyway you slice it...this is going to be one killer phone! It's still amazes me there isn't more of a buzz....but I bet after release people are going to want this phone bad....and the Incredible folks may indeed be sorry they signed a contract before giving this phone consideration. Here's the link...

So Sprint gets this in the summer.
When do we get the phone in europe? It'll probably be locked to 1 carrier right?
Just got my desire, and i love it!! though this just trumps all phone out right now, especially with the larger screen (which i dont think is AMOLED), and Wimax 4G :-)

The EVO 4G is for Sprint in the USA only. It is a CDMA phone, not GSM. Also, Sprint is the only carrier that will be using WiMax, so that won't be of use in Europe either. You will have to look for the successor to the EVO or get a HD2 ;)

So I got an email saying that skype is available on Verizon for Verizon and Android phones which doesn't make sense b/c alot of those phones don't have front-facing cameras... do you guys think that since the EVO has a front camera that they will make skype available for it too on Sprint?

EDIT: Well I guess they could use the IM portion of it.

You can also use the voice portion which is a huge part of Skype and VoIP.
