Root [International] How long does it take to download a ROM?

Ghost10bxl

Android Enthusiast
It's first time I'm flashing a ROM so I want to ask how long does it take to download it on a computer?
If it helps I'm downloading Omega
And it says it'll take an hour? Is that right? That's too long and it's already been interrupted 5 times so basically it's my 5th time downloading it.

Depends what site youre getting it from mate. Most sites slow down the download unless you pay a premium.
Think yourself lucky you have broadband lol, i have to tether with 3g :)

If you use bit torrent you can download the omega rom that way.

Its 700-800 mb in size so it could take anything up to an hour depending on your internet speed where you are.

As mentioned above, a good way to download it is through a torrent. There is a link on the download page for that, and they usually download a lot quicker this way :)

Ive never thought of using a torrent.... do they have checksums? (Cant remember the 3letter initial)

....good chance this post will get edited but it shouldnt really as the file isnt copyrighted, right?

What do you do with Torrent afterwards? The download took 10 seconds but what do you do with it? It's only 70 KB do you compress or something? Please help

Same question what do you do with torrent?

the .torrent file is just a file that you need to open with whatever bittorrent client you use (bittornado, utorrent, azureus etc)

These are essentially file sharing applications. The .torrent file tells the client where the real file is. It will download parts of the real file from many people. The more people downloading (and seeding) the file, the faster the download is for everyone else.

Download utorrent from utorrent.com and then open the torrent file with utorrent and click ok and wait for it too finish.

Does noone rate Ttorrent?
Ive never tried utorrent (with the greek or something U lol)
Im kinda new to bit torrents and dont use a computer :)

You can get utorrent on Android too. I tested a few for downloading wanamlite roms and utorrent was the best.

Usually I use a computer but at the time I was tethering so it was just easier to download directly on the phone, since I was using the phone as the connection to the computer anyway.

Id use phone but found Ttorrent good as it has search function makin it easy for me not bein used to torrents. Is Utorrent same mate? And does it search multiple sites or just a chosen one like "T"
Im talkin about stuff thats free here of course
As you probably know, i prefer to use phone lol but we do have an old laptop that i gave a heart transplant with my nephews busted netbook HD to get W7 but i have to tether (legally, i just use the phones hotspot setting.... i got a warning for saying that in a thread on AC which was disgussing foxfi????)

Ttorrent uses a choice of sites but il be honest, ive never used it to get roms.
Are rom torrents trustworthy?

More so than any other torrent. Other torrents that may be illegal movies for example, you may find one on a random site that some random person has uploaded. It could be ANYTHING. Your risk.

You download a ROM, where are you getting it? Its NOT published on illegal file sharing sites. Its linked from a Thread for a ROM in an XDA thread by the developer of the ROM. Obviously the people on XDA vouch for this developer. You're as safe as you are downloading from any file hosting site.

Discussing the BitTorrent protocol is fine as it is not in itself - illegal, however we should not discuss file sharing sites as the content of them generally (Although not entirely) is illegal.

Can i ask one thing brother.
Why do sites like this or XDA not have thier own free file hosting do you think?

A good a place to ask as any, why don't we all upload any mods, ROMs etc to dropbox and post a link ? We all got 50Gig of drop box space with our SGSIII's. has to be faster than a file sharing site or a torrent ?

Well said bro. Ok anyone who downloads a rom, we'll put a DB link in relevant thread on this forum? Deal?

The issue is drop box will only allow you so many downloads before it disables your account for a few days.

I've had that happen more than once while hosting files for this forum

Really? That must be buried deep down in the small print. Is the same for paid users?
