Root [International] Cyanogen Mod 10

Ghost10bxl

Android Enthusiast
Hey Guys, I wanted to flash Cyanogen Mod 10 because I want Stock Google on my Galaxy S3 Because I am new to rooting, could you help me go through this process?

I'm not sure about the latest version, could you give me a link where to download it from?

Also, could you then instruct me how to install/flash it. I already have Omega ROM so how do I remove that (do I have to go back to Stock Samsung and then root again and then flash?) and flash Cyanogen Mod?

Thanks in advance

You just need to go to the recovery mode and reset the phone from there and then flash the new Rom. You do not need to go back to stock or anything just reset the phone and flash cyanogen Mod.

So basically I go to recovery mode and then Install from SD Card and install from zip and choose CM? The way I did it first time (I installed Omega)?

I am cautious because I'm new to rooting and not a tech geek at all lol so I need to ask loads of questions :)
Thanks, help will be appreciated!

yes same except you would need to Do all 3 wipes before flashing. Also note you would loose all app installed so make backups with titanium backup Also, make a nandroid backup incase you don't like the New Rom

My suggestion is root with Siyah and use the app STweeks and flash Cyanogen as a 2nd rom. On boot you will be given a choice of stock or 2nd rom. I am new to this aswell so i'm no expert. Maybe some of the guys on here will say its a bad thing to do but i like the fact i can try Cyanogen before i fully commit

Latest cyanogen:
CyanogenMod Downloads

Google apps
Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps

I want to ask, do I only need 1 file for Cyanogen Mod? Because on few videos, I saw people doing 3 files, CM9, CM10, and some JB file?

Im not 100% on this but if it was me i would backup to internal then copy those files to my PC. so i have a backup of my backup.

just make a nandroid backup of the phone and save it on ure pc and also make a titanium backup of all ure apps and save that on ure pc also. there is no need to follow the guide given you do not need to dual boot to get this working if u only want to use a single Rom. Just follow the link i had posted and the instructions on how to install are given there.

quote of how to install

First time installing CyanogenMod 10.1 to your Galaxy S III, or coming from another ROM:
- Read known issues ans FAQs
- Make sure you're running a proper working ClockworkMod-Recovery
- Copy GApps and CM10.1 ZIPs to your SDCard
- Boot into Recovery
- Flash CM10.1 zip from SDCard
- Flash GApps zip from SDCard
- DO A DATA WIPE / FACTORY RESET (otherwise your device will be stuck at boot)
- Reboot
- Don't restore system data using Titanium Backup!
- Restoring Apps + Data might cause problems and is not recommended, avoid it if possible!

I would move the Wipe Data step above, otherwise you'll flash the ROM and then just wipe it entirely and it won't boot.

- Boot into recovery.
- make a backup
- wipe data
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik cache
- flash CM
- flash GApps

A question, what's GApps? Is it google apps? And how do I flash that? I don't have a file, I only have a 175 MB CM10 file that I'm going to flash.

So basically this is what I did/and going to do:
What I did:
Back up all apps data with Titanium Backup
Backed up system data using ClockWork Mod Recovery.
After backing up I copied those files and saved them on my computer.

Now what I'm going to do:
Wipe Data/Factory Reset
Wipe Partition Cache

Then Install from SD Card and flash CM10 zip file.

Is that all? Or have I missed anything, also how do i flash the CM10 GApps thing whatever.
Thanks for your help guys :)

Yes you are right GApps are the google apps. Goo.im Downloads - Browsing gapps you will need the one at the top of the list (4.2.1), the most up to date. It is downloaded as a zip file

To install is the exact same as flashing CM10.zip via recovery.

Download the Nandroid app and backup with that. Im not sure if CWM backs up your EFS.

Very good point! Thanks for pointing this out :) CWM won't backup your efs folder, but an app like kTool - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.hellcat.droiddev.ktool will do the trick.

OP, download the app above and then backup your EFS from there, it is a very important backup in case your IMEI number gets wiped during a flash (which is very hard to get back without a backup).

Okay, I tried to flash CM10 but it said Installation Aborted then Thank God I still had Omega file so I flashed that. Please tell me what do I do?

And okay I will do those things

Some of you might be familiar with me as people really helped and I'm very grateful for that. I have two questions after flashing Cyanogen Mod 10

1) How can I get my Phone Log back? I backed it up, I did full back up with titanium back up. How can I get it back? I desperately want it!!
I have also got it on my Samsung Account, if possible to get it from there? PLEASE HELP

2) How can I change the time format in status bar, I want it 12 hour with AM/PM but can't do that in Clock menu, the AM/PM is blank.

Please help! I came from Omega ROM

to restore the phone log u can try this open titanium backup go to batch(icon in top right) click on restore all system data then deselect all and select the call log option and restore it and see if you get the call logs back.

Its funny how certain things are more important for people to have backed up eh.
For example, i dont care about call log or sms being backed up.. just apps and thier settings.
I guess it depends if u use the phone for business?
Just an observation lol sorry for going off topic :)

Well, I just removed the ROM and I'm back on Stock, but thanks anyway. Not really happy with CM. Maybe have to look for another Jelly bean ROM
