Root [International] Unroot Help

Hey Fellow Droidies,

The other day i tried to update my S3 but it said i couldn't as the device had been modified :(

How can i update to 4.1.2 ?( the 1 with the sidebar, i think it's 4.1.2 )

Do i have to factory reset to get rid of root access so i can update to 4.1.2 ? I was told this is the only way to "unroot" my phone :/

Then update the phone and reroot it after the latest update is installed.

Is the 4.1.2 update worth all this hassle?

I have just done a Titanium back up and a nandroid back up and i am on Vodafone UK. It is stock JB 4.1.1 rooted.

Hope i explained properly, i'm not great at explaining things :p

Any help much appreciated ty :)

Yes the easiest way is to flash the Vodafone firmware you had originally on the phone via Odin on your PC to unroot. Or you could ignore the official firmware and flash a stock based custom ROM via CWM.

I reccomend Neat by Salesale. The full version is basically a rooted vanilla GS3 firmware wuth added tweaks and improvements. The latest version is based on the latest JB 4.1.2. Any Vodafone stuff you might want can be downloaded from the Play Store if you really want.

See here for download links and what your able to do more than with the Vodafone firmware.

easiest way would be to download the new os from sammobile and flash it to ure phone via odin(no need to un root or anything) If u want to unroot there is an app called Mobile odin which lets u unroot the phone with a click of a button(not sure if the pro version is required or not).

pro version

I heard that Stock roms are pretty buggy m8, thats why i wanted to unroot > update stock 4.1.2 > reroot :)

I installed Mobile Odin Pro but can't see any definative thing that says how i can unroot with a click, any chance you can point me in the right direction please ;)

If i flash the original Vodafone firmware will i lose my apps etc ? i have them backed up with Titanium but was just wondering. Also will i have to reset the flash counter for the Vodafone stock firmware to work?

Maybe i should try flashing ROM's but i was sceptical as lot's say they are pretty buggy

Thanks for your replies guys, just wanna be 100% sure what to do before i try anything, not very good with these types of things :p

Peace :smokingsomb:

If you change ROMs you should always wipe / factory reset, which effectively wipes your data / apps. But since you want to re-root, you just need to create a backup using Titanium and then once you are re-rooted, restore.

You do not need to reset the flash counter for stock firmware to work. You just have to reset the flash counter if you are worried about warranty.

Bear in mind, if you do flash the stock firmware, even with resetting the flashcounter, without a factory reset, your OS (Android) will still think it is modified (under about > status) so official OTA updates won't work until you reset.

On top of that some ROMs seem to change the CSC, once again maybe causing OTA not to work unless the country in question (CSC) has already officially released the upgrades.

For example, some custom ROM changed my CSC to an Italien one. I unrooted / reset flash counter / started from scratch but the new stock firmware at that time - 4.1.1 - refused to upgrade (none available) until I changed the CSC back to my original one (BTU).

Cheers for your reply m8 ;)

So, i'm going to have to do a factory reset whether i want to flash a firmware, custom ROM or unroot my phone ( unless the 1 click unroot in 1st reply can be done ) anyway?

So i can just do a factory reset and it will unroot phone > get all the updates from Vodafone > reroot > titanium back up restore and my phone will be close ish to what it is now?

If that is so i think i will just go down that road unless i can use Mobile Odin to unroot because i will have to do a factory reset regardless.

Thanks :smokingsomb:

PS - Do i have to remove ext sd / delete / uninstall anything else before a factory reset or will that wipe my phone completely?

I don't think a factory reset will unroot your phone, you will need to flash stock firmware or use a tool (which i'm not sure about.)

Bear in mind a factory reset from the phone settings is different from a factory reset/wipe data in recovery. A factory reset from the settings will delete everything, including pictures, files, folders, music, the lot. Doing it from recovery will let you keep images etc, but will delete the ROM so you can flash another one. (I'm sorry if I haven't explained that very well!)

Basically, flashing a custom ROM is the following process:
> Boot to recovery and make a nandroid backup
> Wipe data/factory reset
> Wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache
> Install new ROM

This way, you get to keep all the pics and music etc that was on your phone, but get an updated ROM :)

Personally I think you should go the custom ROM route, as it's much less hassle and you will get updates and features far quicker than the stock ROM. You have already made a nandroid and TB backups so it's really quite easy to do :) As dynomot has said above, NeatROM is a really good one to go for, it looks identical to the stock ROM but is much better! :)

Thanks for your reply CD,

I think i'm gonna try that NeatRom ;) seems a lot less hassle to do it that way ;)

Thanks to all who replied, it really is appreciated ;)

EDIT :-

Should i download the lite or full version? Also do i have to install XXELLC Aroma Mods ? if so, how ?

Sorry for all the questions, just wanna be up to speed before i try it :p

lite version(it does not contain all the extra bloatware) then download the latest version of aroma and flash aroma which lets u add stuff and change the kernel/battery logo/theme etc. Just make sure u get the latest version of neatrom lite(1.7) and aroma(1.7a).

Hey,

The latest versions released from that link above are 1.6 lite and 1.5a for the mods released Jan 2013 or am i missing something?

Looks sweet :D although it's a bit laggy now and then, any 1 know why? or is that just part of the deal?

In the future, if i wanted to try another ROM would i just follow the same instructions as i did with NeatROM?
