Standby Clock

manish

Lurker
Hello,
I would like to display the date and time in standby mode (i.e I don't want to keep pressing the power button to see what time it is - I want it permanentely displayed). Does anyone know a way or is there an app that will do this? I have searched but cannot find one.

I've never used any app like this myself, but I found an app called DigitalClock on the apps market that, judging by some of the comments, apparently keeps displaying while in standby, but I think it needs to be charging to do this (it'd be a massive battery hog anyway).

i actually wanted a clock to be displayed when i press the power button

Make your mind up! ;)

There are apps in the Market that permanently display a clock, but only when charging, as otherwise it would really eat your battery.

I don't really see the problem with pressing the power button to see the time and date.

LOL

I actually meant "without" pressing the power button.

I guess I am relating what I want to when I had a Nokia N95 that had the date and time always displayed - lowlighted to save power.

As I said, the DigitalClock app (and as benb said, other, similar apps) seem to always display the clock provided that the phone is charging. I've never used it though, so can't vouch for it.

I have been using Android on a Samsung phone for several years and I did manage to apply settings so that the time was always displayed - but the brightness changed according to the ambient light. So - at night I could see the time without pressing anything .... which is what I wanted. But about a week back there was a software update applied and now the time disappears when the display "sleeps". I have looked at all the available settings and I can't see how to get the behaviour back to the way it was.

And for those telling me I'm wasting battery ... I had this working for at least 2 years and I was not at all troubled by battery life - so that is not an issue for me.

Can anyone suggest how I can get back to being able to see the time at night without pressing
anything?

I too use this function and only just noticed it was not 'on' anymore so had to investigate.
  1. You need to go into the setting page, search Always on Display and select it from the results,
  2. Now pick Always on Display again,
  3. On the next page select Display Mode followed by Display Always.
