The Tablet Tavern

Looks like $60 is the standard gouge for Qi compliant chargers. :( I can use the standard desktop dock for a 1/3 the cost.

I really don't have any need for one but I'd love to have one for the novelty. The only thing is I'd want it to work for future nexus devices too and there's been no info in that soo I'm unsure.

Standards change so quickly especially since induction charging is not widely adopted yet. I like the concept, but i've been charged the "early-adopter tax" enough in my lifetime. I'm turning a bit miserly in my middle age.

Ye who says QI charging will be the standard in a few years. Kinda like how HD DVDs never became the standard cause of blue ray.

I've never seen a Blu-ray player here. I think it was because the IP and patent licensing costs has made them rather expensive, so compatibly few got sold, or could that they just didn't bother launching the format in China. DVD is very popular, along with a home-grown EVD format and a CBHD format. Video-CD is still popular, with players and media readily available, as are audio CDs and tape cassettes.

Seems like a place stuck in the past. It would be so weird seeing few DVD players.:p:rolleyes:

There's plenty of DVD players, they're everywhere. It's Blu-ray Disc players we don't see here. More than likely too expensive due to stiff licensing costs...."a bag of hurt". However there is a home-grown equivalent, CBHD, China Blue High-Definition Disc, which derived from the abandoned HD-DVD. There's no patent royalties other IP licensing fees to pay. We've also got an optical disc format called EVD, which is basically a China only extension of DVD. And Video-CD still popular as well.

Did you know there's no Xbox 360s or PS3s or Wiis in China either? They're illegal.

Of course all these things are made here, they're just not sold here.

Tape cassettes are the most popular format for spoken word and educational material, especially in schools and colleges. And I don't think that's going to change any time soon. Because it's a very cheap and easy format.

It can be similar for many emerging market countries.

Anyone see the leaked image that HTC are announcing a tablet along with the m7 today. I really think they need to advertise if they want them to sell well. The only thing is for the quality HTC produce there sales never reflect how good they are. Hope this time its different.

I saw a fox in my back yard, but i don't think he was using a tablet. As a matter of fact, I'm not even sure it was a "he".

If HTC is looking to get back into the tablet market, they need to learn how to price aggressively. The Flyer and Jetstream were just stupid expensive.

The fox looked cold, but nothing like this fox ...
