Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Ya know, I've been thinking about it and HTC and other manufacturers have it tough. I mean they have phones competing with each other on different carriers. How do you plan to maximize sales of all your phones!?? It's nutz. This thread is proof of this when people will obviously jump ship for a device. For Google its alll goood. Android is getting big! I guess that's why Apple has the iphone solely on ATT for so long. Just a thought I had, pay no attention. haha

I was wondering that too. I mean right now it seems like the biggest threat to the Evo (on the Android platform) would be the Nexus 1 (which is manufactured by HTC) and the Incredible on Verizon (also HTC)...so how does HTC straddle the fence on this. I guess you have to figure there would be little jumping from one device to the other, so the amount of units they sell overall wouldn't be affected by having two major devices released close to each other...it just will change which slice of the pie is bigger.

I've been following Jackson since the Supersonic thread at Sprint Forums in February, then followed him over here because this is where the info is. I never had anything to say, so I never registered or posted. I have a dying HTC Mogul, and I'm desparate for this phone....

A few tidbits:

1) Someone threw out a new date of April 29th recently. I can't see the image (photobucket is blocked at work), but I wonder if there is some truth to moving up the date of the launch because of the pending Apple vs. HTC lawsuit. If I understand correctly, Apple has asked for an injunction halting the import of HTC phones to the United States. HTC phones already here are ok. Sprint is banking on this phone, so they are probably trying to get as much stock in-country as possible. (Side note: can't someone sue Apple for stealing all kinds of Crap? Can Windows sue them for stealing Multi-Tasking?)

2) Bought Sprint Stock a $3.61 before the Evo was launched. It closed at $4.12 yesterday and I'm not looking back!

3) Would anyone else love the for the Evo commercial to be two Stormtroopers looking at a Mytouch, an Eris, and a Droid when we see/hear Obi Wan: "These aren't the Droids you're looking for." The Stormtroopers repeat: "These aren't the Droids we're looking for." Followed by Obi Wan giving them an Evo.

Really enjoying the discussion - Carry On!

Hi Aquasax. Welcome to the EVO 4G forum and thank you for your thoughts. Yesterday, Nimley was the one that suggested the April 29th date, but I think that was based on his feeling that the EVO needs to be released the same day as the HTC Incredible on Verizon. That was the first time I saw that date thrown out there. Most of us around here are geared up for a June 13th release date. That being said, it does seem like something is in the air. Hopefully, we'll learn more on Friday when the media blitz is supposed to start.

I think it would make for an incredibly effective commercial, however I don't think it would ever happen. The word Droid is a registered trademark of Lucasfilm and is used under license by Verizon for the Droid. I doubt that Lucasfilm would also license Sprint to use the term for their advertising too.

Hey all,

Newbie to the forum - and Android. Great stuff here. Great stuff Bill - keeping it friendly, and "real". I'm up for my annual upgrade in September - and was really counting on the EVO. Figure that September timing is pretty good - give things a bit of time to shake-out. Then - Jackson brings up the "HTC Scorpion".

That's why - hopefully, by September - things will become more clear. (no pun intended LOL)

Agreed - and the ending would be "May the farce be with you".

Another short article about Atmel (the touchscreen manufacturer for the EVO):

Really, not much news, but one interesting tidbit is that Atmel has also been supplying the touchscreen for the iPad, which I feel is promising, since Apple--even to this date--seems to have had the best touchscreen-implementations for their devices. Of course a lot of that is software-related, but I tend to believe that they've been very careful on the hardware side as well. In addition, every review of the iPad that I've read has been unanimously positive in terms of the device's multitouch responsiveness.

Someone in these or Incredible forums postes a performance test of the various touchscreen phones and iphone was the most accurate of them all. HTC was close and moto Droid was horrible at tracking. They used a robot to draw a grid and apples lines were very straight. Droid looked like a heart rate monitor...

If those Incredible specs are legit this time around then it really looks like gelded EVO. What I want to know is why does everyone think the Incredible is coming out on the 29th? No one's heard a peep from Verizon. Just a few leaks here and there. It's really not like Verizon to release a phone without any kind of pageantry to go along with it.

In regards to 4G coverage in NYC, my Sprint contact has told me numerous times that the infrastructure is ready to go, it's simply a matter of "flipping the switch." Not to mention the Central Park 4G demo we received earlier this year where 5 Xbox 360s were connected to a 4G Overdrive; each running Modern Warfare 2 on Xbox Live.

EDIT: Apparently this is the same demo done all around the country for press in 4G areas.

That is pretty interesting, I did not know that Atmel provided the touch-screens for Apple as well. I tend to agree, despite what you may think of Apple, their products are always praised highly for their smooth touch-screen responsiveness.

I hope this means the EVO will have a touch-screen better than most other smartphones out there and close to what Apple offers.

Hello DILands. Welcome to the EVO 4G forum. I wouldn't worry too much about the Scorpion just yet, but the 1.5GHz dual-core chips will be used in phones or tablets, eventually. In the meantime, we have the EVO 4G to look forward to and it's real.

I just noticed that the forum template changed a little. Geesh, how long has it been like that -- and I didn't even notice?

I dunno... that leaked spec sheet looks like the same one Jackson said was a fake a couple of days ago. We'll see.

Yeah, that looks exactly like the one posted days ago, so I dunno either. It seems that no one will know the HTC Incredible specs for certainty until it actually ships, heh.

So many doubts surrounding that phone. I really do feel sorry for all the people in the Incredible forum that have been championing it's arrival.

No clue on the Incredible release date. I'm still truly perplexed about having 8GB internal storage but 512mb of ROM? Do they mean it comes with an SD card or what?

But yea, it looks like the Incredible will be the Evo's little brother :D
