Help Absolutely Horrible Lag

I've always been a stickler for smooth UX, which is why I didn't really like Android ICS when I first dabbled with my Galaxy Nexus.

Then things got ironed out with some ICS updates. I was enjoying my GNex.

Then, Jelly Bean came out. Everything was smoother, except for the multitasking bar (which lags like freaking hell).

Then, 4.2.2 came out. Everything goes to hell. My phone (4200mAh battery) is dropping a percent a minute whilst on airplane mode (connected to WiFi). Google Chrome is scrolling at about 10 FPS. The navigation menus take freaking forever to register.

I first rebooted, then reset (without restoring from backup), then clean wiped/flashed 4.2.2. Still have the exact same problems.

Can someone help me before I lose my sh*t? I would like some assistance in solving my phone's 1) multitasking lag, 2) general browser/UI lag, and 3) insane heat production/battery drain. Thanks everyone.

Check out the app seeder. Some think it is a placebo, I believe differently.

My phone runs smoother with seeder enabled.

Yes, but I'm not looking to just hide the lag - I'm looking to tackle it at the source. What's going on with Android that's making it lag?

If you are rooted and found that your setup and apps ran better on 4.1, why not go back to that ROM?

All I can tell you is my phone runs incredible, fast at multitasking and quick on screen transition.

Maybe your issue is hardware if things are getting overly hot.

Are you on stock 4.2.2 or a custom rom? I'm running a 4.2.2-based rom, and although it isn't as smooth as 4.1.1 stock, it is pretty damn smooth... I imagine odexing it would help even more. but I'm on vzw version, so I don't get an official 4.2.2 update yet...

3) insane heat production/battery drain.

That bothers me. Have you tried another battery?

Id also try flashing a custom rom and Gapps without any 3rd party apps (ie; only run what comes with the rom) and see how things go for a few days. If you're still having the same issue then I would say it's hardware related. IMHO this is a great way to troubleshoot and make sure it's not software related.

I highly recommend AOKP build 4 (4.2.2). Right now I have the best battery life that I've seen in a very very long time.

I dont know what they do with AOKP... but my battery life was simply unbelieveable with build 3... I would swear it was a lie... simply impossible to get such good battery life! On JBS, but very tempted to go back to AOKP.

Previous to build 4, there was a massive memory leak (according to Roman), but it's been fixed in build 4. Build 3 ran terribly for me.

Right, sorry for the delay.

1) I switched batteries and it seems to have done a bit. I don't get insane battery drain.
2) Heat and most of the lag disappeared after I uninstalled Chrome and reverted to AOSP.
3) Yeah, stock kernel, stock ROM, stock everything. I'm boring. xD

I guess it's time to flash this one. I'm on 4.2.1 and the battery life is not so good.
