Root Google Settings app??

For starters, I'm running Awesome Android ROM -update#3 over Awesome theme#1 (just in case someone needed to know) I was messing around with Chrome browser in Titanium Backup (move/remove to & from system app). Chrome browser won't work while in SD or as a sys app for some reason. So I moved it back to user app. And when I did, a new app called Google settings. I traced it with TB to Google Play Services ( i think it's a leftover file from stock b01). I'm sure that if I erase it, it'll go away (guessing). But don't know enough about ROMs or whether or not it's even supposed to BE there. Any ideas or knowledge?

I caught this the other day, and while not freaked out, was a little bothered, that I could find a new icon popping up. Wondered about potential hijacking.

What had been bugging me, was the change that had occurred to the Play Store icon, (it had become "Market", with Guspeeds Awesome Android Theme), but I'd seen it was again, generic "Play Store", which started me wondering what else had been changed and why. Then this new icon/app ... it's worrisome finding "stuff" you didn't ask for.

So, I'm glad you asked about this Britchster, and that Guspeed, has provided a legitimate reason.

Does anyone use Google chrome? The new update yesterday asks for audio mic permissions.... Can someone say "Govt spyware?!".

Still doesn't make sense cuz WHY would you need mic permissions to play audio out of a SPEAKER? Plus, our phones already do that anyway...
The update also adds a new permission that reads phone call state and identity. No idea why a browser would need this...

See?! And I won't swear 100% as to which direction it went, but a few months ago I read in the news about the govt wanting easy access back doors to our phones from Google... :smokingsomb:

It's a damned shame how our government exploits our rights! To the government we are all terrorist I guess... We buy a product and service to go with it and our wonderful country wants to know everything we do. Hmm well, they can also know that I took a dump just before I read this thread lol
