Root [MetroPCS/CDMA] flash us cellular phone

firenemesis7

Has anybody successfully flashed a us cellular phone over to metro PCs. If so how hard is it to do and is it something I could do on my own or would I need a cell company to do it

I would like to know too. I'm waiting for the note 3 to come out for usc and woukd like to be prepared.

In the meantime I guess you can try and odin shabbys return to stock tar and dial *228 and see if it will activate.

The problem would lie in getting the ESN into metros database. I have never done that before. I was thinking about picking up a note 2 or an extra s3 to try it but not sure if it is something that is doable.

I think when you activate a phone they ask for the esn. That would be the time in which it gets added. Dunno, you can try.

you cant add in esn's to metro's database anymore, they stopped doing metroflash. youll have to get the esn some other way.

i was hoping to be able to test the theory out with the us cellular sgs3 motherboard, as we have all the files needed to have a working sgs3. but a sgs3 would be a bit of a pricey risk, the motherboard was much cheaper :)

unfortunately i lost the auction so it just got pushed off to the side, perhaps one of you guys will be able to test :)

yea being able to get this working would do more than just bring newer devices to metro. if this worked then cricket may be possible. and they are a prepaid service so you have to buy teh phone outright, and well... look

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0ByCeTYQz0C-9dFNjYUNxd2ZWTlE/edit

its 379 bucks for a brand new sgs3. now i cnat confirm or deny that eitehr carriers would work, as i believe if any were to it would be uscc's but crickets may as well and if so that would be a cheaper place to get sgs3's for metro. especially since i have a dealer contact for cricket/pageplus

the crappy part is we wont know until someone takes that 300-400 dollar risk though :/

and trust me alot is not being said due to what forum policy allows us to say so take that into consideration :D

yea beacause of certain laws forums like ours and xda have had to update their policy of what can be shared. or else legal matters could take down a forum just for such discussions. it involves esn so thats why we are being careful about saying too much or else mods can come here lock the thread for our own good ofcourse lol.

I heard something about a new law that supposedly passed last month pertaining to flashing phones between different carriers. Is that the one?

the changed law was you cant unlock devices to use on other networks, which has never been an issue for cdma... because you never could.. gsm people that travel internationally have every right to freak out as they now need to buy a factory unlocked device at full price instead of just unlocking teh att branded device they already have (unless att is kind enough to unlock it for them)

with cdma devices the phone idenitfier number (what the network says the device is) is permanently software embedded onto the device and unless you can get a carrier to add that number (ESN/MEID) to their database of devices then you arent gunna get service from them. most carriers will tell you too bad and t o buy a phone from them, the only way around this is a legally grey area where you take the esn of one phone, and put it on another.....

for instance what i was going to do was buy a lg motion 4g, take the information i needed from that device and the uicc. put it into the uscc sgs3. once the ESN is on the sgs3 i call up metro sign up tell em i have a lg motion etc etc activate it as normal get my subscriber info from them for data/mms and that alone will promise me calls/data/sms/mms all on 3g.

as that is ESN manipulation and thus carrier fraud its a topic that is usually kept in teh darker parts of teh web. but that new law has nothing to do with it, t his was already illegal before that.

I flash phones all the time at my job. as i am a cell tech at my job and do these all day long. how to add esn into metro inventory can't be done but dont think androidforums.com would allow me to say otherwise how it is done because it is Illigal to talk about it.

Right its Illegal to alter any IMEI or ESN of any device.

Lets take a collection, I got 20 on it, Any one else in??:smokingsomb:

I am using a US cellular GS3 on Metro. Easy unlock. (It's just that for months it was nearly IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY SOLUTIONS)!!!

There are a couple of video tutorials on u-toobe, a few of em are from the flashedphones.net guys...but make sure you search using "US Cellular unlock" rather than Metro unlock. I can almost assure you that there is NOTHING for the R530m out there.....

The menus are the same on ALL GS3's...but ONLY after you actually get into the service mode. And, some of the options arent in the same exact order as the are in other models. They're still there, of course. Anyway, ONCE YOU GET PAST THE FIRST 2-3 CODEs your IN.

Here's a few of the entry/initial codes. I spent so much time looking for help on flashing, I actually remember them!!!

To enable the hidden menu dial *#22745927 (enable it)

To get into the Utility Mode by dialing **87284, select PDA, then hit qualcomm at the bottom and select the very bottom part that says DM + MODEM + ADB

To get into the service mode

Dial *#197328640#

I have a slew of these codes burned into memory....just lemme know if you need something.

Hope these help anyone out there.
