Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Awesome concept! Even if I hadn't heard about the EVO, I'd look it up after seeing a commercial like that.

LOL...I just don't know if Sprint wants to spend that much money on one commercial. Name and Likeness from Lucasfilm alone would be astronomical (especially, if it's for the purposes of selling another product).

That said, I actually could see a partnered marketing campaign, if there was a Star Wars project/product coming up for Lucasfilm.
Ok let me throw this out there, how do we know if Mr. George Lucas himself isn't a Android follower and thus with his expertise in cutting edge technology prefers a phone such as the EVO 4G over any other. He himself might offer the idea of using Droids, Stormtroopers etc in a no hold bar commercial.

(Now watch tomorrow it be reported all over the media that Lucas is making a EVO-Droid commercial) lol

TS out (using the force)

LOL...He very well could be, ts. Thing is, even if he was and he did offer up the idea, it'd still cost Sprint $$$$$$ for sure...hahaha.

I work in the entertainment industry and people would be surprised how many ideas are spurned from one artist being a fan of something and actually bringing the idea to the table. In the end, even if they're a fan of it, I rarely see them offering services for free.

Seen this?

At BestBuy... EVO on mobile front page... no details yet though... just cool to see this...

Well we do know that Mr. Lucas will wh*re out any of his intellectual property if it will make him more money, so I wouldn't out and out dismiss the possibility that he'd do it.

I'm certain he'd do it if the price is right I mean thats just business but just how far Sprint will take the marketing gimmick is something we'll just have to see.

The guy is worth an estimated $3 Billion. Either the price tag is going to be really high. Or free. He probably doesn't notice dollar values that have less than 5 zeroes on the end.

I've been following Jackson since the Supersonic thread at Sprint Forums in February, then followed him over here because this is where the info is. I never had anything to say, so I never registered or posted. I have a dying HTC Mogul, and I'm desparate for this phone....

A few tidbits:

1) Someone threw out a new date of April 29th recently. I can't see the image (photobucket is blocked at work), but I wonder if there is some truth to moving up the date of the launch because of the pending Apple vs. HTC lawsuit. If I understand correctly, Apple has asked for an injunction halting the import of HTC phones to the United States. HTC phones already here are ok. Sprint is banking on this phone, so they are probably trying to get as much stock in-country as possible. (Side note: can't someone sue Apple for stealing all kinds of Crap? Can Windows sue them for stealing Multi-Tasking?)

2) Bought Sprint Stock a $3.61 before the Evo was launched. It closed at $4.12 yesterday and I'm not looking back!

3) Would anyone else love the for the Evo commercial to be two Stormtroopers looking at a Mytouch, an Eris, and a Droid when we see/hear Obi Wan: "These aren't the Droids you're looking for." The Stormtroopers repeat: "These aren't the Droids we're looking for." Followed by Obi Wan giving them an Evo.

Really enjoying the discussion - Carry On!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!! Yes that would be FTW!!!! That would top all commercials ever!!!!

The richer the greedier, I HIGHLY doubt he's doing anything for free.

Why does it feel like I'm writing in invisible ink?
You're another one that knows their stuff and you and bemis23 seem to be on the same page. If I'm understanding your question correctly, bemis and I were talking about RiverOfIce, who I also think knows his stuff, but he isn't quite on the same page as you two are.

Then there are some who think this dicussion you three are having should go into it's own topic, I agree it is 4G related but has little to no link to the Evo. I think it's really derailing the topic at hand. I believe a few others have said the same a few pages back.

Mod Edit: threads on WiMax are being moved to their own thead.

So, 2 days, 15 hours or so til this "media blitz" begins. Any clues on what they're going to do? Start heavy advertising, i.e. TV commercials, billboards, etc. ? They better give us at least a more accurate time frame for the release. Maybe info on the Nexus 1..

First because wimax IS wifi.

Wifi if 802.11ng
Wimax 802.16m

Both are ieee compliant.

By that rationale, is Ethernet wifi and wimax? It's 802.3. It's ieee compliant. I suppose that since 802.16 encapsulates 802.3, you'd make the argument that they're the same technologies and standards.

This statement is laughable. I guess I'll give you some leeway on your claims to be an industry insider, but saying wimax is wifi would get you laughed out of my company. At the very minimum, the clear distinctions between licensed and unlicensed frequency should be evident to even the layest of laypeople (I made that term up!).

Bill, a friendly comment. You're so far over your head here that doing anything but nodding your head as you try to follow along is fruitless. No need for you to type a response to every seemingly intelligent post in this thread. Half the time the post you're so effusively praising is rife with misinformation. Perhaps keep your comments to such topics as your favorite color for the phone and what games you plan to put on your handset when it arrives.

Right. Cause there's so much awesome new info to talk about with the Evo on a daily basis.

They'll probably reveal the data pricing plan for 4g which I hope isn't too high or even free with unlimited plans and maybe give us some of those left out features they promised to reveal soon!

Not new info, but speculation and rumors. And input from people with contacts inside the Sprint organization. And technically this is the official WiMAX thread too. But the technical jargon is out of place.
