If I keep GPS and Mobile data turned on, will it drain my battery if no application is using it?


What if I keep both open only for mobile cracking software like samsung dive, Will it reduce the battery ?

I leave GPS on and have found no adverse battery drain - the idle battery consumption of my phone is only 0.2% per hour. This is with mobile data, wi-fi and Bluetooth all turned off. If I leave mobile data switched on, that consumption rises to around 1% per hour. The same seems to go for wi-fi.

On the S3 the GPS is not running unless you have a app running that calls for it. That said there are apps that will turn it on time to time for updates, Facebook and such.
 
So turning on mobile data for protection services like SamsungDive or where is my dorid, won't do much harm as long as there aren't any other apps that use the connectivity like FB,News widgets and Emails? right?
 
It does use battery to maintain a mobile data connection. Also syncs will use that connection which uses battery.

I would try it yourself and see how it goes.

As for gps, to echo what's already been said, it only uses power when specifically being used.

If you're going to do that, you might as well just turn the phone off!
With data off you'll get no incoming calls and won't need the GPS to navigate, cause it needs data to do so. So, just turn the phone off till you want to make a call...

Is it REALLY necessary to do that though? Does your phone not make it through the day? Mine lasts 19-23 hours without charging, and moderate useage...
 
i dont think mobile data has got anything to do with incoming calls. From what i have understood the OP is asking if he keeps mobile data and GPS on will it affect his battery.

If you have Google Now activated, it uses Gps (quite a lot i found) if you have GPS on.
I found that wifi+data being on let Now work fine but used a lot less battery
 
You should have just bought an old flip phone if you're going to start turning off all the features that make it a smartphone.

Either figure out what's draining your battery or buy an extra battery and charger if you're overly worried about using up battery power.
 
GPS turns on automatically only if the mobile data is ON, after sending a connection request from the internet. If mobile data is turned on, dive can do nothing!

I ALWAYS have mobile data on and my battery is fine.
Id leave it on if i was you and change app settings if theyre using it too much. Just keep an eye on your data use and set a warning if youre on a limited plan ;)
Data will use more battery if it has a weak signal so (i cant tell by your profile what carrier or country your in, sort that out lol) so a strong 3g signal is better than a weak 4g signal :thumbup:

How much of battery is being drained when the mobile data is on, 1.with widgets using it, and 2.without anything using it?
 
Thats pretty much unanswerable tbh mate.. actualy.. with nothing using it, i doubt if it uses much battery, it maybe uses some every so often to check on the connection but its probs neglegable
 
best option is set up your own phone overnight with data on and data off and see what drain you get over the same period of time and take a call.
