Help I have a few questions :)

Good morning! I have a couple questions that I am hoping someone (or a collaboration of someones) can answer.

1) I take a ton of pictures. With my previous phone, I would plug it into my computer and all new images would automatically dump onto my hard drive. At that point, i would delete a good portion of them off of my phone and go along my merry way. Is there a way to do this with this phone?

2) Kies never wants to sync over wifi for me, except the first time, and I don't know why. My phone recognizes my network but the computer stays in the "connecting" stage indefinitely.

3) How can I send a video through text? It seems the video is too big no matter how short it is. Haven't tried email...

4) how serious of a concern is screen burn? Ever since I read about it I have been really sketchy about leaving my brightness up. On my iphone, I always had to keep it super dim because my battery life was horrible. I was looking forward to being able to keep the screen brighter but now I am worried. I don't want full brightness (unless I'm outside because I kind of need it) but like 50-60 percent. Right now I am using auto brightness but it is way too bright at night and I get annoyed w switching from manual to auto constantly (I know that sounds petty). I don't want to ruin my phone.

5) is there a way to delete albums that were synced onto my phone? I unchecked the sync w Picasa but I can't get rid of the albums that had already been added to my phone. I haven't used Picasa in years and don't intend to.

6) I thought I loved my keyboard app (swiftkey) but I am starting to dislike it. It keeps my mistakes instead of correcting them more often than it corrects. Should I try another keyboard? If so, which?

Semi off topic but does anyone use the tapatalk app for this forum? How can I make this particular forum listed in my favorites?

I suppose that is enough for now. Thank you to anyone who has any advice for me!

1. It should be the same, just plug it in and take whatever option you want on your PC. I had to use the cable it came with in order to transfer data via USB, none of my previous cables worked for data on this phone.

2. I don't use kies, I use ES file explorer for my wifi transfers.

3. There is a size limitation with mms. If it's a video you've taken, it's best to use the option to record for mms.

4. I've never had screen burn in on any smartphone I've ever owned, and I use my phone more than I use my laptop.

5. If you're only talking about picasa, I don't think there is a way to delete from the phone, you would have to disable the sync or delete from the website.

6. This varies from user to user, I prefer better keyboard 8.

I don't use taptalk, I just use Dolphin Beta.

Have you considered Cloud based photo storage? There are a lot of apps that will do that for you.

I cannot explain why, but I am averse to cloud-based storage. I assume it is because I know little about it, but I also thought there was some sort of limit and then you had to pay, which I'd rather not do.

2. I don't use kies, I use ES file explorer for my wifi transfers.

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought that Kies was what we used to back the phone up? Somewhat like Android's form of iTunes. Am I incorrect? That is all I wanted to use it for.

I don't use it, so I can't say for sure, but I don't think so.

What phone were you using previously? I'm assuming iPhone, since you mentioned it later in your post. If my assumption is correct, there are apps that help the transition of sync'ing pics and vids similar to how you did it with your iPhone.

If you don't want to use the cloud to store pictures (which, I prefer doing as well...I'd rather not people be able to somehow steal my pictures, unless I personally post them online). I don't know if there's a way for the pictures to "automatically" sync to your computer. You're obviously not adverse to connecting your phone to your computer, so there is another alternate for transferring your pics/vids to your computer:

- Connect phone to the cpu, make sure it identifies as a media device, open windows file explorer (or the equivalent on Mac), click on the phone that's listed, go to whichever drive your pictures get stored on, go to the folder that you have those files on, copy and paste onto your pc. You can repeat that process every time and it'll overwrite whatever you've already copied over.

- You can accomplish this wirelessly, w/ a similar process, using the app Solid Explorer. It's a paid file explorer app, but definitely worth the money. Instead of connecting your phone, you would just go through the settings on Solid Explorer and select File Sharing. After choosing File Sharing, and pressing START (after setting a password), you can enter in the secure FTP link into the file explorer and that will grant you access to both your internal and external SD. I only recommend this method for small file transfers, not necessarily big file transfers.

2) Kies never wants to sync over wifi for me, except the first time, and I don't know why. My phone recognizes my network but the computer stays in the "connecting" stage indefinitely.

Kies is a very quirky system. From everything I've read online, I haven't seen very many people rely on that, so I'd just find alternate ways of backing up.

3) How can I send a video through text? It seems the video is too big no matter how short it is. Haven't tried email...

Easiest way is to record the video for mms sharing. I don't know if there's a way to have the video auto-compress, so you can send via mms. I'm sure there are others that have good options to do this without too many steps. I don't really share vids via mms, so I can't really comment too much about this. What I usually do is upload a high-resolution video onto photobucket or youtube and then just share the link with people.

4) how serious of a concern is screen burn? Ever since I read about it I have been really sketchy about leaving my brightness up. On my iphone, I always had to keep it super dim because my battery life was horrible. I was looking forward to being able to keep the screen brighter but now I am worried. Screen burn, as in "burn in"? I've never experieneced it with any of my phones. Is there no easy access setting on your notification bar, that'll allow you to turn down the brightness at night? Auto brightness usually dims my phone down to close to the lowest setting, so I never really thought about this, but I have people mention "burn in" before. I always thought "burn in" was more of a concern for screens that stay on for a long/extended period of time.

5) is there a way to delete albums that were synced onto my phone? I unchecked the sync w Picasa but I can't get rid of the albums that had already been added to my phone. I haven't used Picasa in years and don't intend to.

Since you have auto sync turned off, I'd log onto Picasa and delete those albums. I know there's been discussions on how to remove the cache, but I can't remember exactly how to do it.

6) I thought I loved my keyboard app (swiftkey) but I am starting to dislike it. It keeps my mistakes instead of correcting them more often than it corrects. Should I try another keyboard? If so, which?

I prefer the stock Samsung keyboard, for the Note 2, since it also has swiftkey flow/swype function, as well as one-handed keyboard mode. Swiftkey is a great keyboard and I believe you can delete words that have been saved, that you don't want saved in your dictionary.

I never used the Favorites tab, until you mentioned it, so I figured it out. Go to the Note 2 forum, using Tapatalk. Once you're in the forum, hit MENU>Subscribe. The Note 2 forum should then be set as one of your favorites.

I don't have a Note 2 yet but I use Dropbox to sync my pics. Every time I take a pic from my phone (htc inspire) it automatically uploads to my pc. I like this cause I don't have to do anything. It does it by itself.

I use dropbox on my Note 2, it works the same. I have mine set to only sync on wifi. Every pic I take will be automatically uploaded to dropbox as soon as I have wifi and my PC syncs them from there. I can take a pic outside and it will be on my PC before I am.
If you don't want to leave them in the cloud, just move them from your camera uploads folder in your PC dropbox.

Screen burn-in can happen on any AMOLED screen regardless of manufacturer. The more correct term would be 'burn-out'. As certain RGB emitters burn out, it causes ghosting images to occur. At this point, it's pretty much irreversible.

The biggest cause for this is leaving brightness settings high, accompanied with a static image stuck on the screen over a long period of time. AMOLED screens have a finite life span. They will not last forever. Which is why you don't see them mass marketed and implemented in TVs, monitors, etc. And LEDs are different from OLEDs. Don't confuse and think they are the same. They are NOT. The reason of having OLEDs on phones is because most users will switch phones frequently. Probably before screen burn-in is realized.

I have no issues with auto-brightness. I have the screen set to movie mode and tones also on auto adjust. No issues with screen being too bright.

I noticed last night that when viewing a black screen I can see what looks like a smudge that is not on my phone. Could this be a ghosting image? Should I call Samsung about it? I have only had this phone for a month, probably a touch less. :/

Grasshoppa you're going to slowly drive yourself nuts "looking" for things to be wrong with your phone instead of enjoying it. :p

Use a light coloured background (white is probably the best). If you can make out remnants of static images/icons on it where it should just be a plain screen, then screen burn-in has most likely occured.

Don't need that. Just dial *#0*# to enter diagnostics mode in the Note 2. The top three tools will be Red, Green, Blue. Press the back button twice to exit out of test or menu.

Sorry, should have posted that in the first place. :p

I like the white & black screens too. :D
