problem after updating this morning..

I updated my phone this morning and now the Samsung keyboard won't "add to dictionary". Is there anyway I can get this feature back? I dont like the swipe keyboard.
thanks in advance!

Jim

Are you rooted and have custom recovery installed by any chance? and if your not thats ok , i was only going to suggest you booting into either cwm or twrp and fix permission. or if you have root access you can navigate to system/app and look for SamsungIME.apk and long press it and select permission and make sure it looks like this.

Ah hmmmm yea that's an issue there and since samsung keyboard isn't something u download from play market there's not much you can do. If I were u I would try different keyboards on the market that may be similar to the samsung keyboard and use it as a substitute.

not the solution I was hoping for.. would it be possible for someone to post there Samsung.apk file that hasn't been changed yet? ive looked for some similar but haven't had any luck yet.

I don't know, but if you are not rooted getting the apk file will not help as you do not have read/wright permission to put it in place. System apk files do not install like the apk files from Google Play.

Have you checked "unknown sources" in Settings/Security?

I think a .APK file should install without root

This was from a post where they sent an E-Mail to Samsung.

To add words to the Word List.
1) Go into the messaging app on the phone, and open the keyboard.
2) Go into settings, and change the keyboard to the QWERTY keyboard. (This is only to add the word, you can use the 3x4 keyboard after the word has been added.) Also ensure that predictive text is switched on.
3) Go back to the keyboard, and type the word that you want to be added to your predictive text list.
4) The word will appear in the word list above in blue. Tap the blue word and this will be automatically added to your word list, and will work with either keyboard.

Thats how words were added when I first purchased my phone. Then with the FIRST update the "Add To Dictionary" was added. Now they "Add To Dictionary" is gone AND it wont save words no matter how I try to add them. However the saved words are there with the Swipe keyboard.

I think they disabled that in the 4.1.2 update. They've replaced it with the Personalised Data feature if you go to Predictive text setting.
