Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

There are noo screen problems, because its LCD. Its that AMoled that meses things up. Last time Dan saw the device which was right before CTIA it was still running 2.1 so no confirmation on 2.5 yet. It would make sense to me tho for it to have it. They will spend more time trying to fix 2.1 for 4G than just skinning it with 2.5

True, but the Droid has an TFT LCD as the EVO will and that is listed in the article as having similar problems as the Nexus One, which runs AMOLED.

I'm having trouble understanding how software can cause screen problems. Anybody understand this issue? I hope the EVO doesn't have this problem.

Hahaha not this again!?

I told everyone the exact launch date of the phone back in februaru and that came true, i said there would be a video out with a man wearing gloves in two weeks, and it came out exactly then. I also said the phone my ship with 2.5 but it def had 2.1. I was also the FIRST person to say it had an 8mp camera. A front camera too at that. So yess with all of this info coming on feb, i do know what i am talking about, as everything up to this time has been 99% correct, AMOLED is the only thing i have still yet to get confirmation on although i am almost 100% sure its LCD

Jackson

I'll vouch for Jackson even PRIOR to the EVO talk.

When the Touch Diamond AND Touch Pro were confirmed to be on Sprint, Jackson had shared "inside" info back then, that ended up being 100% true. He confirmed a release date and the delayed release dates for both phones. He ALSO leaked that there were delays on the Touch Pro because HTC was trying to fix some of the issues that were coming up with the Touch Diamond. If memory serves me correct, he even leaked the information about the differences between the Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro, which I believe one of them was that the Touch Diamond had 4GB internal memory, whereas the Touch Pro had the removable microSD slot. It's been a couple years since that time, so I can't remember all the details, but I do remember him leaking A LOT of information that ended up 100% fact.

I don't think its as much of a hardware problem (which most thought it was) as much as the software isn't properly translating what it needs to onto the hardware. I haven't read up much on the problem, but that's my impression.

Well what the article was stating was that when the Droid was updated to 2.1 the picture viewing application was only displaying a 16bit picture instead of a 24bit picture it was displaying in 2.0.1. It basically take away certain shades of color out of the color palet and makes for a less "interesting" picture.

Hmm.......it all makes sense now, I bet Jackson doesn't even really have 'a friend', it's all been himself. "Billy?" As if....

And those tennis games he supposedly goes to? SECRET high-profile meetings held between Sprint and HTC.

I wish you a LOT of luck at your next round of Tennis games Jackson....I hope you bring us a lot of inf- Uh, I mean, score very well! :)

Haha, just messing.

By that rationale, is Ethernet wifi and wimax? It's 802.3. It's ieee compliant. I suppose that since 802.16 encapsulates 802.3, you'd make the argument that they're the same technologies and standards.

This statement is laughable. I guess I'll give you some leeway on your claims to be an industry insider, but saying wimax is wifi would get you laughed out of my company. At the very minimum, the clear distinctions between licensed and unlicensed frequency should be evident to even the layest of laypeople (I made that term up!).

Bill, a friendly comment. You're so far over your head here that doing anything but nodding your head as you try to follow along is fruitless. No need for you to type a response to every seemingly intelligent post in this thread. Half the time the post you're so effusively praising is rife with misinformation. Perhaps keep your comments to such topics as your favorite color for the phone and what games you plan to put on your handset when it arrives.

Oh come on now. You ever wonder why this thread has been so anger free? Bill. He moderates. He helps cool things down.

I think we are all a good group here and we are lucky to have the experts (right or wrong) who have shared their beliefs and opinions. There is no point in dropping bombs on folks. It just adds clutter (like this) to our wonderful, happy forum.

I know I am probably 2 pages behind, so I apologize if this has been resolved. Peace everyone! Lets zip it and have a good time.;)

Right but HTC is now using the same company that makes "the world's most responisive touch screen" aka the iphone

Software plays a huge role in screen sensitivity. Software is what detects where your finger is touching, and what happens when your finger touches there. I realize taht the harware picks up the touch but whos to say the software thinks you are touching some where else. So you can have great harware but bad software to create mad senstivity or great software and bad harware

No worries though, this device has all the quirks worked out =]

And yepp theres a lot that goes down at those tennis matches.. Deuce anyone??? LMAO

that was the deal tehre Drex! Nice memory, the biggest difference between the two was memory

Pardon my relative ignorance...I searched this thread but couldn't find an answer. Will the Evo support live wallpaper? Thanks in advance!

If you watch some of the videos, especially the ones on Engadget, you'll see that the evo does have live wallpaper.

I may be wrong, but from what I understand, live wallpaper is an android 2.1 thing, so I'm guessing the answer is yes?

Can anybody confirm if I'm accurate with my answer?

I'm kinda jazzed about the weather widget with falling rain drops and a windshield wiper. Isn't that part of the Sense UI???

jackson,

i think i read that the switch to the "most responsive touch screen" company was pretty recent. do you think these screens will be used immediately for the EVO, or starting with future phones in the works by HTC? obviously i'm hoping for the former.

also (if i missed it i'm sorry), what is your opinion of that screenshot that shows all those EVO's in stock? possibly the real deal or more than likely fake??
