Help Phone stuck in 1x mode (no 3g)

So my phone is stuck in 1x mode. I already flashed back to stock... reset tons of crap. Re activated my phone.. updated profile. All the usual stuff. After that i decided to call Virgin Mobile. First lady said there was no outage in my area. The second guy said there was a outabe since yesterday and will be over Saturday.

Now i decided to search Sprint forums and people are having the same issue as me.. SLOW or NO 3g or at all. All over the USA.


Im wondering if anyone here is experiencing 3g problems on there VM evos so i know my phone is not going wacky. I did change my Radios/PRL/PRI recently but i doubt thats the issue.
 
You absolutely cannot trust VM service when they say there is an outage. I think their reps found that people would take that answer and go away, so they use it as a default answer for almost any problem you may have.

If you find info about Sprint or from Sprint about outages then it maybe more trustworthy.

Try downloading power toggles and set up a toggle bar that includes 3g and 4g. Toggle them off and on a few times (slowly).

If that does not work, go into the settings for power toggles (tap on the power toggles icon, go into preferences, then "other toggles). Check the box that says "use 4g as a shortcut". Then go back to your toggles and tap on 4g to open up your network settings. Make sure you are on CDMA Auto PRL.

If all your settings are correct and there is not an outage then you may have a bad radio flash.
 
In the last month or so I have had times where my phone (stock, never rooted) goes to 1X. Mine hasn't gotten stuck, though; if it doesn't switch back to 3G on its own, toggling Airplane mode or restarting the phone usually does the trick. Prior to last month, the only time I ever saw it read 1X was while sending a text.


I wish I had some insight as to what causes it - in one location I was told there was an "outage," but in another place there was no problem, and I usually have great data speeds there. My suspicion, based on the complaints I've seen on Facebook, is that it's related to the ongoing problems with the system update. It seems that data connections for EVOs, SIIs, and iPhones were particularly hard-hit. Every time something gets fixed, it seems more problems and errors crop up. (I'be been in a "voice outage" area for 2 1/2 weeks now, with no resolution date :( )

Have you tried moving up the chain to get to Technical Support, and possibly get a better answer for your problem?

Been on the phone with these guys for like 2 hours. Finally 3g pops back on. Tested a few things.. GOOD... soon as i hung up 3g goes back out. Even had me factory reset the phone which is no problem since i have backup.

Just looked on facebook and sprint people are complaining about call problems and everything.

VM is clueless right now. Really hope its a tower problem and not a phone problem,.

You have to remember, just like most people only post here when they're having issues, it's the same thing on the Sprint forum and FB page, there's numerous outages every day on every network, probably more so for us because of the Network Vision rollout and Virgin moving 4G Wimax from Sprints to their own servers so that they can begin tracking and throttling 4G usage. It's an unfortunate result of maintaining, expanding and upgrading a nationwide network. :rolleyes:

Just drove to a new city and 3g didn't come on. 4g works.

Returning this phone for a new one since i can return within 30 days. Just sucks i have to re do everything to get my jellybean rom on.

Edit: Got a new HTC evo v ... these suckers are hard to find still. Everywhere is out of stock.. Have to return this one to stock RR and s-on and return it.

What could cause the 3g attenaa is stop working all of sudden?

New phone on. Before it was even activated it showed 1x. So now im sitting here with two perfectly fine evo v 4g's... one is brand new.. the other is mint condition. I feel bad now.

I mean i drive far out the area and my 3g still didnt work.. its like all of chicago has no 3g which i doubt!

Chicago is to big i would think and just me having this problem? Seems odd. Is it tied to the evo v 4g's???

My GF who has a boost mobile phone evo design 4g is coming by so i can test her 3g. Same network and everything so this will prove what i need to know hopefully.
 
I get 3G but sometimes the pages don't load even though my 3G is on.

This usually happens when I walk outside at school. It works when I'm still. I don't get it
 
Guys its sprint's abysmal network. :rolleyes:

Or they are probably updating with their little "network vision" which better give better service in general. If it doesn't you guys should just leave and stop dealing with this bs.
 
Inside the building where i work i have no signal, as soon as i open the door to step outside i have four bars. The phone frequently gets confused and stuck... without any data access (1x or 3g). I find I have to reboot or toggle airplane mode on/off to give it a little kick.

stock phone, no root or roms.
 
Sprint must be having data issues or doing maintenance on their network, my phone has been getting slow 3G for a few days now. I encourage you to visit the link that will be posted below, its a list of where Sprint has been doing work or upgrades should help out for all the confusion for those that are having poor data speeds and connections issues.

I was getting very slow data speeds and zero to barely one bar. I receive a text message a few days later saying Sprint is doing upgrades to my area..building out their new network vision.
 
Honestly it's just sprints bullshit 3G network, it's why I switched to TING but still had a shit service. I'm thinking of just getting an S3 and using it on TING. I feel the 4g would be worth it and I don't really use that much internet but then again VM will also be getting the S3's and VM has unlimited texts and data, but no roaming. What do you guys recommend?

I recommend T-Mobile. One of their plans is superb. It's 30 dollars for 100 minutes but ultimate texts and unlimited data (5gb until throttle). They call it the "Walmart plan" since it's Walmart and Web exclusive. It's on their website but it's a bit difficult to find on there because it's hidden well.

You can pick up an unlocked gsm device, or T-Mobile phone. Their network isn't slow, it's hspa+ which is like 15mbps in the real world, and that's considered 3g! That's like 18 times faster than vm's 3g network. They have lte deployed and it's extremely fast.
