Root User Agent Switcher: lg motion, Pc, wifi hotspot success

Hi guys, when I got my lg motion I updated the phone without question, but after noticing I was having too many problems with my wifi I downgraded my firmware to an e and still have that problem. I tried rooting my phone and still no luck, but have read on some forums that the problem with wifi connections is the pc's user agent not recognizing or having the phone's user agent added. I use on my phone "dolphin browser" and on my pc "google crome" I read that you have to change the user agent on the pc for it to recognize the signal but I'm not sure how to do that using google crome on my pc. I don't have wifi service added to my plan and don't want to change my browser on my pc and on my mobile phone......here are my questions


Q1: Is there a way to get my pc to recognize my phones browser or do I have to change one of them?


Q2: How exactly do I change the user agent on my pc's google crome browser, I added the string that my phone uses but I don't know how to get that string selected and if it will even work?


........lol never mind guys, just after making this thread I clicked on the little user agent icon thing in the corner of my pc browser and selected the mobile string I added, then I made sure the wifi app. I installed ( wifi tether for root users by: Muller, Lemons, Buxton) was on and that the stock wifi was off (since I read the stock one cuts off at times for some reason). Now I'm able to browse around on the internet from my pc using my phones wifi data, even though I figured this out I still have a few other questions I wanted to ask, thank you so much for any tips or advice you give regarding this..........


Q3: The user agent string from my phone, is it dolphin browsers, metro web, or just the string assigned to me when I activated the phone?


Q3: I noticed when I switched back to the home wireless network I didn't switch back the user agent string on my pc just to see what would happen. Yet the mobile browser string was still showing on my pc even though I wasn't connected to my phones wifi signal. If the mobile browser can still be seen on my pc when off the wifi then how is it that I'm able to connect to my wifi from my pc?..........seems to me like the app is not needed..............or am I getting confused here?


Q4: If someone wants to get on the internet using my phones wifi would they have to add my mobile string to their browser and also add the user agent extension?


Q5: Will other devices that needs internet connection be able to connect to my phones wifi?


........My point in asking all these questions is simple, i'm planning on using my wifi on my phone as my internet service rather than having a separate internet bill. The one i'm using now is set up for my sister at her place and am soon going to move into my own. Knowing many of you would probably just tell me to include this service in my plan but i'm actually trying not to so as to keep my metro bill low, but if I really have to then I will...........

Hey... Well if u are rooted u dont need UA
U need a user switcher.
WiFi tether https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
On chrome go to chrome market and search fo ua switcher
N install pluggin. Use firefox 9 or opera 12
If u want to tether in app use as profile
Wland0 ics n fill the inscriptions info (fir privacy)

Yes u can connect as many as u wants
I connect pc, nook, n laptop (all @ same time)

yeeey! glad to finally get this connection stuff right, not only with web browsing but also with getting my printer connected to my phones wifi signal. All that's next is seeing if the roku box will pick up and connect to my phones signal also, hopefully it does when I get one.
 
well that sucks heheh, just after my reply I downloaded the app. And need to have the wireless signal on to connect to the roku. Hopefully I can change that by having the roku connect to my wifi hotspot rather me connecting to it through the wireless signal.
 
Your phone and the roku have to be in the same wireless network, a hotspot can work in some cases, just depends if the roku wants to be friends with a hotspot :p :rofl:

It does, I bought the roku today (got paid :)), it picked up my wifi hotspot...shows it's connected and then gives me an error saying it can't connect. Also I've noticed that some free tv shows and movies are mostly clips or the whole thing is old movies or movies you have to pay for. I haven't searched thoroughly through it, just browsed around and so far my expectation of it and what many say is way better than cable is not looking so good. I'll search around through it more and find out what channels are free and such....too early to say but for now this is what I'm seeing. do you know what might be wrong with the roku not connecting to my wifi, I mean do I have to re-root my phone or do you know someone who's had the same problem.? :(

I'm using the regular stock and the encryption is "WPA2 PSK" if that is the encryption. I got everything else to work and connect to my phones hotspot "printer", "computer: am able to browse around on my Pc using the phone's user agent string I added". Everything else connect's except this roku and I was really hoping it would, what might be wrong with it?

still nothing, now it says it can't connect vs. "it won't connect" hehehe. Man I'm sleepy....I probably would have to re-root my phone back and use a wifi app. to connect to it. Also is my phones user agent string assigned to this type of phone, or based on the installed web browser?
 
thanks for you're help 2gigabytesd but i'm going to "call it for a few hrs." i'm really tired and am more focused on sleeping in my warm bed rather than getting this darn thing to work hehe. Perhaps when i get a good rest i'll be more clear and focused (with you're help) to finally get it to work. I'll see you on here later.
 
Ok I'm back so here's what I've done so far:

* re-rooted my phone

* Installed "wifi tether for root users by: Muller, Lemons, Buxton"

* Cut it on, tried to connect the roku to it "FAILED"

* Continuously changed frequency channels and tried again, "FAILED"

* Unistalled the app. and installed "FoxFi (WiFi Tether w/o Root)"

* Turned on foxi but kept cutting off due to wireless signal cutting on

* Turned off wireless signal, turned on wifi hotspot then foxfi making sure it's the same SSID name (hotspot was in "WPA PSK" security) "CONNECTED"

* CURIOUS to know if stock hotspot can connect without foxfi on now that the phone is rooted, turned off foxfi........attempting connect with regular stock hotspot. "FAILED"

* Turned foxfi back on with wifi hotspot still on, attempting......."FAILED"

* Restarted hotspot and foxfi and made sure hotspot security was set to OPEN, attempting......"FAILED"

* Waited a few minuted for wifi hotspot signal to die down, restarted hotspot with "WPA PSK" security chosen, foxfi was still on, attempting......."FAILED"

* Turned off foxfi and hotspot, security still at "WPA PSK", turned hotpspot back on then foxfi, attempting......"FAILED"

* Left foxi and hotspot on for a few minutes, re-attempting....."FAILED"

* Restarted everything, the roku, foxfi, wifi hotspot and phone. Waited a few minutes for signals to die down, turned hotspot then foxfi back on (wifi hotspot security still on "WPA PSK"; attempting......"CONNECTED"

Ok I'm not going to touch it again, hehehe :p
 
Oh my goodness....as soon as I think I got everything right, my printer's wireless signal would not pick up on my wifi hotspot. So re-configuring my printer to reconnect didn't work and then when I cancelled the reconfiguration it then decides to pop up on my phone showing it's connected. Yet connected still no printing, now trying to get the printer back on track caused the wifi signal on my phone to not even function fully like it did before (such as me being able to browse around on my pc and the signal receiving and sending a lot. This is getting frustrating and annoying.....huh! why can't all this just stay on track? I wouldn't be surprised if the roku stopped getting my wifi signal from my phone due to all this.......I'll eventually get it right though, just surprised something so simple is becoming a pain, hehehe.
 
I'm having issues on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 tethered to the Motion the only web browser that will work is Firefox chrome just sits there and won't load same with the stock Samsung Browser. This is an Android device what gives I want to fix this forget patching it with changing user agents.
