Root Rom - Firmware?

Got a question. I have read in the posts for our custom roms that when you flash the rom you should be on a certain firmware. Why is that? I'm using Collab 3.0.1 and in my settings it says it is firmware F. When I flashed it I was on C. I've been using it for about a month now, no problems. I was looking at CyanogenMod 10 Beta 1, and it says to be on D. Is this really necessary?

If you're going to flash CM10 just flash it. It will work.

CM10 works better on version F. You don't have to switch to CDMA only.

If you're going to flash CM10 just flash it. It will work.

I just want to flash it because I'm fiending for a flash. With my old EVO, I got addicted to flashing.

Also If I update to F, can I use a back up of my current rom?

The reason for this is leftover data. You're a flash addict, so you must understand why its needed to format system and dalvik upon flashing a ROM. When we update our firmware new data gets taken in and some old data deleted. When you flash a ROM from version f when you started out at c, you may suffer all kinds of issues like rapidly draining battery, overheating or even graphical fragmentation.

wait what do you mean we can flash cm10 on firmware F ? That means I can have 3G because I know 4Gdoesn't work
