Help A rather strange annoyance....

Newbie
Okay, I will try to explain this in the most detail possible. My nexus 10 seems to have a strange problem. When it first turns on, it is super smooth, snappy, etc, for a few hours. Everything is great. Webpages load quickly, games play smoothly, etc. Progressively, the longer the tablet stays on (or in sleep) without being rebooted, things go bad. For example, when in google chrome, and browsing for a few minutes, when I press the homescreen again, the app icons dont even appear for a few seconds. Then the wallpaper must reposition itself. As the tablet stays on longer without being rebooted, this starts to happen consistently to the point of happening every single time I return to the homescreen. AnTuTu scores are around 13500-13600, even when this happens. This happens whether or not the tablet is hot or not. If I reboot it, then when I press the homescreen after browsing, I return to the homescreen instantly, apps appear instantly, no lag between scrolling, nothing. It works amazingly for a few hours. However, this problem is incredibly annoying. I see no apps that hog too much memory, I cant fathom what could cause this problem. Please help? My device is not rooted. This happens whether or not I use a live wallpaper. Thanks!:o

Hi severage. That's tough to figure out what may be causing it. Does it happen after using chrome a long time or playing a game? Try getting android assistant from the play store. In the tools section is a cache cleaner and you can see how much cache each app has used. Maybe that can help narrow down the problem.

What do you have that is always running in the background?

Yes, it does happen after using chrome a while. Strangely, it does not happen after using other apps for a while, such as games. That makes me narrow it to chrome, but it also happens with gallery and a few other apps. I always run "easy batter saver" on advanced settings, but I have tested and the problem still occurs with the app off. I also always run a battery widget and multiple HD widgets. I havent tested them. I did the cache cleaner, and the only notable users were GL benchmark with around 115 mb used and chrome with over 250mb. I did a full cache clean and will see if that fixes the problem, but I have doubts. Thanks ;)

Try using a different browser for a while instead of chrome. See if that makes any difference. I love Boat Browser myself. If it is still a problem all I can think of is not using any widgets and see how it does and then add one at a time until you find the culprit. Also, check your sync settings. Things you don't need to sync, uncheck it.

Also in settings, developer options, change window animation scale to .5 and transition animation scale to .5. You can also try checking force GPU rendering.

Alright, thanks. I actually already had the transition and animation set to. 5. I dont believe it is chrome since other apps so it as well to a lesser degree but will continue to try.

I know you would rather not Factory reset but I think you are at the point where it will actually save you time to reset rather than hunt down the issue. Just my 2 cents, I understand resetting everything up is a pain.

Full report incoming. After trying many times in vain to find the problem by uninstalling every app known to mankind, failing pitifully, changing settings, failing miserably, etc, I decided yesterday for a factory reset. Thanks to carbon, I was able to back up pretty much all my data even though I had no root. I did the factory reset, rooted my N10 while I was at it (good decision!), and hoped in vain the problem would disperse. I have found the cause however. It seems Nova Launcher (what I had been using) and the annoying fact that you couldnt get any downloaded wallpapers to scroll interfered with the tablet, causing the problem. Using nova with one of the default wallpapers, or using the default launcher with any wallpaper, fixed the problem. I feel like such an idiot right now. Nevertheless, the reset was good since I can now overclock my N10, block ads, etc. Thanks all

Glad you figured it out. :)

Thanks for posting what it was. That might help someone else. ;)
