Is it unlocked?

Hi,
Simple question: if I buy the LG Spirit 4G from metropcs online, can I use it with any other carrier and outside the US?
Or I'm bound to metropcs?
tnx

no, not for a long time, they would just be owned by t mobile, if everything goes as they hope, whats left of metro pcs wont be fully over to t mobiles network till after 2015
We'll be moved over to tmobiles LTE network soon after the merger is completed. Metros CDMA will be shut off Summer of 2015 the latest.

Thanks for the answers all...
So where can I buy this phone, if I want it unlocked? Or it's exclusive on metropcs?
tnx!

It's a locked phone. It's exclusive to Metro pcs. The 4g will only work with one of their (UICC) sim cards.

Technically I know a guy who knows a guy who can call a fella who can unlock a metro phone to work for other carriers. I hear you loose 4g doing this though, but it is possible just not suggested..

Could they do this for a phone in Mexico?

Edit: nvm, I was thinking you meant the other way around. I know people who can flash other phones to work with metro service but you lose 4g.. my bad sir

all metro phones will be shut down as we switch to hspa+

Not necessarily they'll be shutting of CDMA in 2015 by then most metro customers should have metro branded LTE/HSPA+ phones. Also now some metro phones are VoLTE equipped so they dont even need CDMA.

This is if everything goes the way they want. I think they still have a few government roadblocks, I remember reading an artificial that homeland security is trying to put a hold on the merger while they investigate if there will be any security risks

That was back in November where they were "reviewing this matter for any national security, law enforcement and public-safety issues"(none of them pursued to block the deal) but that is standard procedure when foreign-owned companies are acquiring U.S. firms as of right now though T-Mobile is owned by Germany's Deutsche Telekom. But then & metropcs will branch of to where T-Mobile USA will be its own U.S. based company with DT as majority shareholder.

But FCC will resond if it approves the merger on not on April 22, 2013. Last week the DoJ approved the merger. Metros shareholders then vote on April 12th and it'll basically be a done deal then.

I'm pretty sure most if not all of us will be onto bigger and better things by then, lol.

the whole thing sucks . I left t mobile years ago for metro pcs and now they are trying to force me back. I guess this will be my last phone with metro

Doesn't matter. I still would like to know, especially after spending nearly $900 on the 2 phones with accessories. I'm sure I'll be upgrading one but keeping the other. This transition is only 2 years away.

There's many people out there that use phones over 2 years because they simply don't have the money to upgrade. I still see many people with Esteems as their only phone, and it's over 2 years old.
