Samsung TV / GS3 connection problem

Hi! I wonder if anyone can help!!

I have a Galaxy S3 and have just got a Samsung UE32 ES5500KX LED TV. I want to be able to connect my phone to the TV and play videos/music. This TV does not have Wifi without the dongle thing so I am using the cable.

I have connected the phone to the TV and was able to see ONLY 1 photo - which was in a temp file. When I pressed " source " it listed the phone at GT19000 (or whatever it is!!) but (and I think this is important) it seems to think it is a digital camera.

When I looked under USB connection in Allshare Play even with it connected it could not see it.

One footnote to make this even more annoying is that my son has Samsung Galaxy Ace which works fine - we have been listening to his music all day!

Any help / advice / instructions / links very much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Barty

When connected/tethered to the TV,pull down the notification bar & you should have another option to select, which should allow access to all media,files,etc....

Hey! Thanks for the reply and sorry to be a pain buuuuut....

Just tried that with no joy. Just connected the phone to the TV. Pulled down the notification bar on the phone and have the usual options (wifi/gps/sound/screen rotation/power saving/notifications/mobile data/bluetooth) - should I be fiddling with one of these.

Once connected the phone says it is connected as a Media Device (MTP) but when the TV " sees " it has a camera icon on the screen along with the GT-19300 description.

Please help me!!!

Thanks,

Barty

What kind of cable are u using mate? Is it plugged into HDMI on the tv?
When ive used MHL-HDMI leads, theyve just mirrored whats on the phone screen onto the tv

i have the all share pay cast and it mirrors my phone to my tv when connected. I also have wifi dongle on my sony tv and that lets connect and play only music/pictures/videos to the tv via Wifi Direct.

I am using the USB cable that plugs into the charger. I know it works because when my son uses it with his Galazy Ace it works fine. My feeling is it is something in the settings on the phone......just need to work out what!!

The galaxy s3 cannot be used in the way you describe. Galaxy s3 uses mtp protocol (usb connection) which is incompatible with anything but a computer.

Yeah ive tried plugging the s3 into the usb socket on my tv and couldnt get anything.
Same with my old Xperia.
Pen drives work.

Why not get the dongle? Id get one if i had wifi :)
What does the smart part of the tv do without wifi?

Is it a smart tv? Do you have an Ethernet port on the tv? If it is then all you need is for both to connected to the same router then it can play your music.

I just have a crappy Technika (Tesco) tv. Aparently made with samsung parts.. so the salesman said lol.
I had a cheap MHL-HDMI cable, two of them failed n i got a refund, bought a genuine Samsung one which lasted a month.. waiting on new one :(

Right thanks.....was worried it was me doing something stupid!!

Bit of a saga really its a rented TV which when I ordered it they told me it had wifi. When it turned up it didnt have wifi and needed the dongle thing. I rang them and got a bit upset and they are going to send me one of the new Samsung TV`s when it is released later this month/early next month - the rental company have promised me that this one will have wifi. I have just been mucking around trying to connect the S3 to the TV over the weekend.

So just to put my mind at rest if the new TV has wifi I assume I can just hook the S3 straight up to the TV via the wifi and I am rocking?

Wi-Fi means you hook it up to a router. Your phone's Wi-Fi will have to connect to same router. Then they will see each other.

Also you can buy a cheap dlna capable media player and it should work even better than a tv. I'm not in the UK so don't know which one to recommend. I use a western digital tv live smp. You can push the video or music on your phone to the media player and in turn to your tv.

Dude, check your allshare options on your phone ;)

System settings > more settings > nearby devices

Ok so I get that the s3 uses mtp protocol which wont work with the tv......but was I able to see the one image in the temp file when i did connect it?
