Root [GUIDE] Unbricking/Unrooting Optimus Regard[KDZ]

So you probably just rooted your phone, deleted an app, and now you're soft bricked :(

Well this will fix that :D

This will also unroot you, but this will not erase your contacts/apps/text messages/etc.

Instructions:
Download firmware from here: LG Optimus Regard (LW770) Firmware
Download the programs to convert and flash firmware: KDZ_FW_UPD_EN.zip

How to get into emergency mode:
Hold Power+Volume Up+Volume Down
To get out of e-mode, pull battery (do not do this while flashing firmware!)

Thanks to DarkStarONE for how to enter emergency mode.

Before you start flashing firmware, please make sure you charge your battery for at least 30 minutes.

These are the instructions to convert the cab to a KDZ and flashing it:

  1. Install phone drivers (LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN37AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3.7.2.exe)
  2. Install msxml.msi
  3. Disable antivirus software
  4. Open UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
  5. Wait for the program to open
  6. Look for "Encrypt cab file to kdz file"
  7. Click the folder icon
  8. Choose the location of the cab you downloaded for LW770 firmware
  9. Encrypt cab -> kdz Program will freeze up. DO NOT EXIT until program says Done!!! Otherwise it won't finish converting.
  10. Close program
  11. Open KDZ_FW_UPD.exe
  12. "Type" choose CDMA
  13. Choose in "Phonemode": Emergency
  14. Click the folder icon and choose the kdz file that UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe just made.
  15. Click Launch software update and enjoy!



Phones don't fix themselves.

Hy sammyz can you help me out. I need the firmware for the optimus regard or stock rom. Im changing my lg motion into an optimus regard and i will try to activate it on cricket. I have a thread open to report my progess and results

I need an IMEI of an Optimus regard, I never got one and I need one to get the new firmware.

here you go that is the esn given to me by someone selling the optimus regard on ebay ***************. hopfully i get closer into turning the motion into a regard. in the meantime im going to research backing up my current rom/firmware. Thank you again for your help

will this work for a lg motion.... to unroot it?

Hello,
Thank you for all your work.
I am trying to follow this "unbricker."
I installed the drivers in the (LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN
twice.
and
Disable antivirus software

But I get to . . .Open UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe
  1. Wait for the program to open
  2. Look for "Encrypt cab file to kdz file"
  3. Problem starts there
A. Program is running... But no "Folder Icon" is active. None on LG GUI.
Even the "Encrypt cab file to kdz file" Folder Icon is NOT active.

b. That whole Encrypt cab file to kdz file is below task bar and I have to pull the entire GUI up with pointer to even see the INactive "folder icon."
c. I have only this computer.

I bricked it when "freezing the wrong" app with systemapk.apk. (Google Books)

UPDATE....
sammyz reminded this old man to UNZIP the KDZ file into a folder and the WHOLE unbrick worked like it should. Should that step UNZIP to folder be -1 before # 1 ..... LOL

I want to thank sammyz for the great work and support to help us get past our light "bricking exercises."

So THANK YOU.... very much.

Now to find a flash method and some ROM that works best on Cricket on this LG Regard .... any links would be kindly investigated.
