Help Trading iphone 5 to get nexus 4

brounmoney

Android Enthusiast
So someone on an apple forum wants to trade his nexus 4 for my iPhone 5 and he will give me $100. My question is have any of you guys ever traded a phone over a forum? How did you go about doing it? The guy seems like a stand up guy I just want to know about how to make sure you don't get scammed if there is a way.

My other option was to trade my iphone 5 into amazon and get $430 in credit for it. I would then use that a order the nexus 4 from amazon. Which of these seems like the better option?

Neither. Trade the phone in and get your $430, then buy the phone from Google Play.

The phone on Google Play is $349 (16GB). So you'll only be up $80, but you won't have to do a dodgy internet trade and get a used phone.

Also, don't trust anyone that's trading their Nexus 4 for an iPhone, they MUST be weird in the head.

Well the thing with the play store after taxes and everything it is about $380 or so. I am not really saving much going with Amazon. I get the phone faster on amazon as well. I am a prime customer so I can have it sent overnight for $3.99. I would think that sending my iphone to amazon would be a very low risk thing if not no risk at all. I have never had a problem with them.

Oh and also if I trade it into amazon then I have to use the credit there. I have not seen a site that would give me a check that offers $430 for my iPhone 5.

I believe you can sell your iPhone 5 for more than $430. I've seen them on ebay at $600 or more.

Yea but ebay takes a cut of what you get. Then to get your money off your PayPal account they charge you money as well. You may make a little more, but not much at all.

Try Craigslist. I sold 16gb unlocked iphone 5 mint condition for $530 last weekend and it was quick sale. These people buy iphones like its made out of gold or something.

So the deal broke down for trading my iphone 5 for the nexus 4. I am fighting myself on whether to trade in the iphone 5 to amazon and get the nexus 4. I know I may not get the most cash out of the iphone 5 this way, but it saves me a lot of trouble.

My biggest fear is giving up the iphone and losing a music player. I pretty much just use it as a ipod touch. I have been doing this for about 2 years now. Having an iphone that is just use for music. Has anyone found good options for replacing that with your Android phone? I know there is the Google play app, but you need an data connection to use it. I want something on the phone that has the music downloaded to the phone.

The problem you may run into with the N4 isn't so much one of playback. There are many very good apps for that. The problem you might face is one of storage space. The N4 only comes in an 8GB and 16 GB model so if you want to load up your whole library, there might not be enough room, depending on how many tracks you have.

I have all my music uploaded to google play music. If I want to listen to playlists/ albums/ songs offline I can simply download them to the device.

The only problem I can see with this is that you might have to plan ahead for what you want to listen to. But if you can catch some wifi when out and about, then this problem is solved.

I've also had no issues when streaming the music via 3G

Whats up man, I own both the iphone 5 and nexus 4! My first question before digging in is which carrier are you using the i5 on now, and which carrier do you plan on using the nexus 4 on?

Well I had the iphone 5 on att. I am currently using a note 2 on att as well. I want the nexus 4 to go along side the note because I want pure Google. I would be using it on att too. I just want to switch Sims back and forth.

I would love to have used a site for the trade, but when I offered on that would charge $25 that we could have split he did not want to do it. Oh well I have moved on. Not sure at this point if I want to just buy the nexus 4 right from the play store.

Well I feel like kind of an idiot for not knowing this before seeing how I have owned 2 nexus phones before this. I just downloaded all the music that I wanted on my device from the play music app. Works great and don't need an ipod anymore.

Also which size of the nexus 4 do you guys have? I am trying to keep the price down so I wanted to see if the 8gb good enough. It would be a kind of backup phone to my note 2.

16 is really 13.3
8 is really 6.5

I would go with the 16 just because there is no way to upgrade the storage later on other than selling it and rebuying another one.
Although the price difference is huge imo. You are paying 18% more (or 54dollars) for just 8 more gb of storage space.
a 8gb sd card is 6dollars.

If you are the type of person that buys new phones often, then saving that 54dollars and putting it toward a N5 in 1 year may be the way to go and just stick with the 8gb version.

I have the 16gb version and I have to be careful loading up my podcasts and music +apps+photos etc etc to not to go over my limit.

Ok thanks for the help. I had a iphone 3g that only had 8gb and had some issues with storage only because of music. I will not be storing that much music on the nexus 4. I really want the phone I am just trying make sure I am making a kind of good financial decision on buying this after buying the note 2.

I don't know what data package you'll have, but if it's unlimited then don't worry about the storage. The bulk of it, as you say, is taken up by music. Google Play Music lets you keep about 100GB worth of free cloud storage so that's how I get around it and it's great. My 8GB Nexus is about half full with apps and photos etc... and all my music (which i couldn't fit all of onto a 32GB HTC One X) is accessible for free. Simple!

Thanks. I did have att unlimited plan so it would do just fine I think.

I personally would not trade in a Forum try selling your phone then bye from google play store just my opinion.

I use my Note 2 for music, mainly because the Nexus 4's sound quality was pretty bad out of the headphone jack. Just fyi.

I just traded my 4s to get my N4 a couple of days ago :D

but yea, if the deal isnt a local in person trade (mine was) then I wouldnt trust it. do the amazon thing if you can. or if you trust craigslist you can have the cash in your hand immediately.

This is a scam, NEVER take an offer better than what your offering. I've run into alot of people in craigslist, that offered $100+ more than what I was asking for when I was trying to sell my galaxy s3 like I was auctioning it. And none of them were local. Sell to a trusted vendor or locally on craigslist and meet in person in a public place. This should be a given, but if you're new to selling, take my advice :)

Ok will do. I don't think I am going to sell my iPhone 5 just yet. I am going to use birthday money and get the nexus 4, and maybe down the road sell the iphone. Thanks for the info.
