sync mail with notifications

morning everybody from greece :D
i was wondering if i can get notification about new mail.. my gmail is working fine but i have to refresh it manually so i can get my mails. on my previous mobile device(nokia lumia 710) when i had new email, it was ringing normaly like an sms.. and it showed me that i have a mail.. on my s3 i have to refresh it and wait to see if i have a new mail. and some emails i wanted to read them the time they send it..!

In gmail app. If u press menu, settings, then tap on your email address, is Notifications and Sync Gmail checked?

If your Gmail account is set to a 'POP3' service than that would explain why you have to manually sync/fetch your mail. You would need to set it to IMAP, which is a 'Push Service', i.e. your mail will automatically pushed to all devices that are linked to your Gmail account. To do this you'd need to sign into your Gmail account online and go to settings (the cogged wheel top right-hand of your screen) > then Settings again > then the 'Forwarding and POP/IMAP' tab > then go down to 'IMAP Access' and click on the 'Enable IMAP' radio button followed by 'Save' at the bottom. You should now enjoy the Push service with no more manual checking required. :)
