Facebook Home Launcher

So, who's ready to jump on this train wreck? ;)

Seriously though, I think the level of integration this will give Facebook into the android experience is a bad thing, especially when FB starts serving ads (confirmed by MZ) right to your homescreen.

I think homescreen widgets or something like the so.ho launcher (which gives even time to Twitter as well) is all the more "integrated" I need FB to get on my phone.

Anyone?
 
me too I'll install it day one, play with it, see how fast i get tired of it, then get rid of it...that's all :)

give it a try, who knows you might like it
 
I'm wondering if you have to sync contacts, calendars etc. with FB by default- if that's the case, don't think I even want to mess with it.

And then there's the big question of what it's going to do with battery life...
 
Nothing special to me, I don't even use FB that much, it wouldn't have any purpose for my use. I'd like to try it, though. From the early reports, it looks very fast and smooth: why is the Facebook App so laggy, then?

Don't. Once you install it it'll be over for you. Your phone and its entire repository of information, data, and media will be integrated fully into the Facebook cloud, from which there is no escape.

And this is different from it being integrated into the Google cloud?
 
To me, yes.

I trust Google with that info.

Facebook has been known for being less than friendly with peoples privacy in the past. No thank you
 
I personally don't mind my device being synced with Google, it's quite convenient actually. Unless you are really into Facebook, there's no real reason to "share" information with them, is there?

Google was conceived by people with a high-minded goal of helping people access useful information quickly. And they seem to be living up to their "Do no evil" pledge.

Facebook was conceived by a college kid who, in retaliation after being dumped, created a mechanism allowing people to rate the attractiveness of the girls in his school, and stole and used their pictures wantonly for this purpose.

Yeah, there's a difference.
 
I might put it on the wifes phone if it isnt to big for her memory. I kinda abandoned fb a few months ago. Got so sick of it. Even when i did use it, i didn use notifications.. i wanted to read stuff when i felt like it, not have it invade my life lol. The facebook home thing would feel like dumbing down my android phone i think. Not for me.
Plus.. they cant even make a decent web client app after all these years so whats their launcher gona be like quality-wise?
 
I'm not one of those people who use FB on my phone enough to want to see its presence every time I turn on my phone. I do a lot of other things on my phone and I don't need to have FB in my face before doing anything. I will not be using or even trying Facebook Home or as I call it, "In my Facebook."

had to laugh when i read this . Google are always in the national press for privacy issues . they have been find many many times and are currently embroiled in another lawsuit for privacy issues .
they also collected details about all open wifi networks in the uk and let users have those details without so much as asking anyone of the wifi networks owners .
if your trust is placed with Google i feel very sorry for you .
probably the worst company there is for privacy issues.
 
I have complete trust in Google in terms of the information i let them have about me lol! I probably get far more from me using their services than they do so dont feel sorry for me ;)

So why do you own a phone with an operating system created by the "worst company there is for privacy issues"?

For me, I think it's more a case of not wanting to share a bunch of stuff with FB that I'm already sharing with Google. If you want to operate in the electronic world, you unfortunately have to trust someone, whether it be Google, Facebook, Microsoft etc. I would just like to limit my exposure to potential hacking, and part of that includes not letting FB mine every last bit of info on my phone.

I'm also wondering about performance issues that might come up like mentioned earlier in the thread. They seem to have problems writing a decent app, so it would surprise me if they put out a decent launcher.
 
If you're as careless as to leave open Wi-Fi access point, it's your fault. Anyone could have done the same, and for much worse purposes. Google wasn't trying to steal reserved data to later try to fraud you.
 
I'm not a huge Facebook user so I really have no need for this. The regular app was good enough for me.

I guess if you're a FB junky it's probably worth a try.

I agree- I think people that spend most of their time on Facebook now will probably think it's great and it will just be annoying to those who aren't FB-centric.

I've read some hands-on reviews since I originally opened this thread and the comments about the smoothness of the launcher have been positive, so maybe FB will do a better job with the launcher after all. This is on the HTC First tho, & no word that I've seen yet on battery life...

So far, I have been unable to determine if FBH supports widgets from other applications. It is a screen for your apps and if I were using it, I would want my widgets. FBH may be smooth like the app which is nice. I would like to see how it compares with other launchers. I use Nova Prime and in addition to app icons, I have a number of widgets on my various home screens.
