Facebook Home Launcher

So far, I have been unable to determine if FBH supports widgets from other applications. It is a screen for your apps and if I were using it, I would want my widgets. FBH may be smooth like the app which is nice. I would like to see how it compares with other launchers. I use Nova Prime and in addition to app icons, I have a number of widgets on my various home screens.

If this article can be believed, looks like widgets as we know them are out the window with Facebook Home...

Facebook Home is about people, not apps – and it cripples Android | Android Community

Wonder when itl start putting full screen ads on peoples phone lol ;)

I'm sure it won't take long! Thing is, I'm not totally opposed to a few tasteful ads here & there on something in which I might actually be interested. I think I have more of an issue with it tho when they start to occupy my entire home screen masquerading as an update from a friend...

Yeah that would be too much man lol. I agree kinda, i prefer ads that are based on my interests and searches to just random crap but dont think id like em on my home screen. I think if people give fb an inch, theyl take a mile and im not sure i trust them to vet their advertisers enough. Maybe if i still used fb so much id be more interested in it.
Its definately a clever move.. i never saw it coming tbh :)

Oh, if it takes off (which I think it will with heavy FB users), it will be huge for FB- a much better idea than just producing a "Facebook Phone".

While I openly express my disdain for FB Home and can't see using it on my phone, I can absolutely see it being adopted in droves by non-techie android users that live on Facebook and are not at all concerned about it's effects on the way it messes with the Android UI.

And, it's probably a boon for Android too over iOS in the eyes of someone who uses FB religiously and is trying to decide between buying something like an S3, HTC One or an iPhone 5.

I think a lot of what I would call Android "techies" or "power users" tend to forget that we make up only a small percentage of android users. For a lot of folks, "all FB all the time" will be a huge attraction.

Yeah totally mate, we're a tiny minority but out of the "normal" people, how many know what a launcher is lol? Fb had better make installing it look easy and fun or it might only be folk like us who try it lol

Good point- I don't suspect we'll see any phones (other than phones like the First) being released with Home installed by default. But I bet that newer versions of the FB app will pester you to install Home by default when you download it & sign in. That would be an easy way to get non-techies to easily install it.

God forbid if Home were to become the sole way you get official FB on a phone tho- hopefully FB will not give it a try.

Think youre right mate, itl be a default thing that you have to opt out of. Nah cant imagine them making it the only way to use fb... who knows though lol.
Wonder if u can change the launcher on the First..

Im guessin the launcher will have an "import" function like Nova to import your current set up but lack of widgets does seem like a killer (again, does the average user even use widgets though?)
I can just picture a lot of normal people to whom a phone is just a phone, being coaxed into installing this then not knowing how to get rid of it. Glad i dont work in a phone shop lol :D

The facebook app just started working decent within the past two months why the hell would I want to try another facebook app and go through all the same nonsense. Facebook sucks anyways!

I think you have hit the nail right on the head. Dumb newbies like me who don't have a good understanding of what some of these apps do will shrug and say ok and start downloading, and then be wondering what the heck happened to their phone. I'm glad I read this discussion so I can be watching for this. I do NOT want the FB launcher on my phone.

Lol thats cool. Think you expect sarcasm on here sometimes :)
Well the fact that u use a phonegeek forum like this makes you neither dumb or a noob lol im sorry to say but you are now a fellow geek ;)

I don't know. I bet you would love working in a phone shop. :)

I sometimes think I wouldn't mind it myself. Some of my mates reckon I should sell phones, and that I have sold them on the S3 by my enthusiasm.

Lol i probably would kinda enjoy it tbh ;)
Hate shops though.. theyre too hot n the fake lighting freaks me out lol. Plus i dont like dressin smart n bein nice to the public :)

The main issue with me working at a phone store would be the same issue I would have working at:
  1. Electronics store
  2. Music (instrument) store
  3. Music (recordings) store

Namely- way too much paycheck recycling! I've worked enough retail in my life to know you don't want to sell something you also would love to buy yourself. ;)

Let's hope they make it that easy! At least with a launcher, just clear those defaults & you can hop back to the stock (or whatever other) launcher you want...

Hence why i could never work in a pub lol :D

So why do you own a phone with an operating system created by the "worst company there is for privacy issues"?

because i am in complete control of what they do and don't get regarding my information .

the people whose wifi details they stole (cause that's what they done) had no choice in the matter .

and i don't need to justify anything to you .

well like i said i gave it a try and it was AWFUL!!!!! i dont want to see a slideshow of my "friends" awful pics evey second of the day, the same pics over and over full screen and this app hijacks your phone, you have to go thru loops and loops to use it as a phone. Who green lighted this mess?

Uninstalled after 10 minutes and I gave it a 1 star rating on the Google Play Store

It's not like they didn't have a choice. They DID have a choice. Why on Earth would you leave a Wifi access point open? If you do have a reason for that, you should also know that it's not safe at all. Did the people Google 'Stole' data from lose money, get their their identity stolen, etc.? Even the most basic router from your ISP comes with protected Wifi access.
