That may be bloatware... But it's not vzw bloatware. Stocks, footprints, and open office are all part of HTC's Sense UI. Amazon mp3 is part of the android OS. It is on all android phones.

The only VZW bloatware on the Eris that I had or the Droid that I have now is the installer for VZW Visual Voicemail. I suspect the Droid Incredible will be the same.

Not sure if this has been asked, but if you buy the phone from VZW online through the pre-order route, will the rebate be a mail-in or instant like at Best Buy mobile.

Every phone I have bought through Verizon, has been mail-in rebate at the store, but instant rebate online. I always just order the phone online now.

Why eat the ETF? $10 month x 24 months = $240
$240 life of added line < $350 ETF

Unless I'm missing something.

I'll be paying for 2 data plans @ $29.99. I need to go on VZW.com see what the cheapest solution is. I'm pretty sure that all smartphones have to have a data plan.. I don't think that I can get the $9.99 data plan on the Eris...

but then again the moto droid was rooted because cyanogen found a loop hole that someone left open. and since then its been patched up. which is why the milestone, as its called in other parts of the world, still does not have full root access.

but then that might be carrier specific idk

Look, I'm totally not trying to flame or be difficult or feed an argument or anything. Maybe it's the mood I'm in, or being overtired or just excited about the prospect of my new phone that will finally be coming. But I'm kind of finding it amusing tonight that folks are upset at the carrier that an operating system (open source at that!) is so secure that people can't hack it to create their own custom ROMs. If you need to root a phone, you could go with a Droid or wait awhile until you know whether the Inc is root-able. But I don't think I'm going to be upset that my phone runs an OS that's so secure that it's difficult to hack.

By that rational, people would've LOVED the old versions of Windows and MS products instead of hating them.

At this stage, I guess that I'm another one who's going to have to fork over a retail price. I haven't figured out an alternative......but I haven't given up either. I'll just have to seen how it all pans out.

Here's my question. I am a relative NOVICE at messing with my cell phone. I've used bitpim to get er um . . . stuff for . . . um little to no money per month. However, I would like to know is:

1. What does "rooting" a phone mean?
2. What is a "custom ROM"?
3. Is it worth it to "over clock" the processor to put it at least to 1GHz or over 1GHz?

I know that with all of the "tutorials" and info out there, I could likely do all of those things with 100% success, BUT is it worth it?

Thanks.
rooting your phone give you super user access to your phone. which basically means that if you root, you can basically do what ever you want with your phone. if there happens to be hidden capabilities the phone has but were tucked neatly away and not used. someone will find it and make that feature usable. like the whole over clocking thing. cant over clock unless you root. do you have to, no but people like to.
if you like your phone the way it is then no its not worth it. but if you like to try different stuff, then its defenitely worth it. custom roms have a benefit, they can be good and bad so try out what you like and dont use what you dont like. .

Ok so now that the dust has settled...

I'm trying to decide between the Devour and the Incredible. What do you all think?

And because you'll ask, yes...

I'm joking!

Unfortunately not. All smartphones require the $29.99 data plan.

i dont think anyone was upset to begin with. :p a question was asked and i answered.:D

I know this is off topic, but I was just thinking that I didn't get my first cell phone till I was 18 yrs old. Now my daughter is only 14, and she is on her 3rd phone, and it is a smartphone. The Incredible will be my first smartphone, how can my 14 yr old beat me to the smartphone world.

350 ETF is only 50 less than 600 when you also have to pay 200 for the phone...
Besides, I think you might get charged an activation fee for the new line.

Might as well sell the Eris for what you can get and apply that toward the DI.

Just buy the Incredible on a new line, switch your old phone to the cheapest plan, or the family share plan--add a line for like 9.99. Wait till the contract ends and cancel the 2nd line.

I might be shelling out retail ... I got an Eris a little over a month ago... I was unable to return it and get my BB Storm out of a coma within 30 days, (I was out of town for two weeks visiting parents and didn't have a car >_<

I was hoping that I could sell my Eris but know that it's officially EOL in May I probably wont get much for it... I almost feel bad selling it b/c it SUCKS!
Plan A: I'm sort of 'seeing someone' who works at VZW down here and I'm hoping he'll take care of it for me...... (not buying it, but doing what he can on his side to play around in the system...)

Plan B: Add a line & make the Incredible my primary phone and then canceling line and eating the ETF..... $350 is less than $600....

Plan C: Hoping to book enough makeup gigs to cover the phone in cash by release date but it's not looking good.

Plan C: Pay retail upfront and not buy groceries or anything for like a month...

Plan D: Put my Pole Dancing 101 skills to work... Atlanta is the strip club capital or something.... <---- JOKING

OK i dont mean to be an idiot but, why dont you renew your contract and get that price?

Isn't layaway back in fashion?? Can I go to Verizon and put $50 down on my new phone? j/k

I'm crossing my fingers that my 'rep friend' will 'take care of it' without getting himself into any trouble.

alright guys... so today it was announced...you know we're all happy. but i'm sad....we have to leave this thread and get lives. i probably wont be on here again..or if i am. it wont be for long. i'm going to pre order it and start counting down the days now that we know for sure when it'll be here. i wanted to thanks EVERYBODY for this thread and keeping it the best place to come and get HTC INC news. best of luck to all of you and i'll see you in another 2 years when we're all due for another AMAZING phone. :'( goodbye my fellow thread followers..

wow that sounded like a suicide note XD

ok bye.

To everyone interested in switching to a 1-year contract for the Incredible:

I just called VZW and he said I would retain my existing NE2 credit for this purchase, I just wouldn't be eligible for the NE2 again in the future.

So for me (who still has a $100 NE2 credit), assuming the phone is like $369 1-year price, it'd be 369-100(instant online rebate)-100 (NE2)=$169.

Thought this was nice to pass along for people who want to switch to 1-year (A VERY GOOD IDEA TO CONSIDER SINCE THERE WILL LIKELY BE LTE PHONES NEXT YEAR!!!)

We gonna see any videos of the phone before release or since its been announced there will be no more info on here till its released?
