Help email notification bell

Every time that I get an email a bell sounds it is quite loud.
How do I turn this sound off.
I have tried in settings- sound but I cannot find how to turn this sound off or down.
I would be grateful for any ideas.

go into your email app and change the notification ringtone from within there

I think he means the option to change the different levels for different types of notification.

In ICS for example you in to sound >volumes

In there you get 4 or 5 slides to adjust volumes for each thing!
