Anyone had or tried Tmobile recently? How is coverage between Tmobile and Metro?

I'm looking for comparisons. Is the speed better or the same in your area? Would love to hear particularly from New Yorkers. I want to get the iPhone on Tmobile. Would the possible merger what is to be expected coverage wise in the future for both companies.

Im not in New York but i can tell you this, here in jacksonville fl My wife has the metropcs LTE enabled LG Esteem and I have the Nexus 4 on t mobile my HSPA+ speeds are (so far) up to 16mbs download with uploads at 2.2 max Since t mobile does not have LTE here yet I can not test that.

My wifes esteem on LTE gets 6-8mbs down and 4-5 up Although I have not tested any where but at our house, our house gets terrible signal. So I would say right now the t mobiles speed is much better, except up load and that is a limitation with hspa+ or really all 3G standards, LTE has better ping and upload and if signal and spectrum is good much better downloads. NYC is supposed to have T mobile LTE so if you use it you should see 25mbs + down and 8-12 up is what I have heard.
Now when the merger happens t mobile will increase spectrum for metro lte users that should increase my wifes speeds by 2 or even 3x and later when they phase out metropcs CDMA phones and refarm that spectrum they will be able to increase tmobile lte speeds and then both company subscribers should see more then 4x the speeds. That is the roadmap I have seen anyway. Numbers may not match up as I am going by memory.

How is call quality? Is it the same? So in a nutshell Tmobile and metro will in the future be pretty much same coverage wise? For me coverage isn't terrible but who doesn't like it to be a bit better. I like tmobiles no contract and the ability to now have the iPhone. Would Metros coverage help Tmobile and vice versa?

To be honest I have not tested call quality very extensively, I am on the 100min unlimited data $30 plan. But the call quality has seemed very good, at least as good as metro's.
yes when they get everything nailed down, by 2015 all metro cdma phones will be switched out for gsm units, and they turn off cdma all subscribers of both company's will have the same coverage, which to be honest may not be as good as many would like, they have heavy coverage in cities(very good we like that) but in rural area's AT&T has better coverage, metro is mostly city coverage so that wont add to the coverage outside the cities. Though on the other hand metro subscribers will get more coverage because t mobile does have some out of city coverage.
But the biggest thing it will do is increase the spectrum because the 2 company's combined spectrum will make yours/my phone downloads very awesome.

I visit the T-Mobile section on HowardForums very frequently and with all the people in NYC on there, barely ever any complaints. Only complaint is when you leave the urban areas there's very spotty 4G coverage.

I have not been on the howard forums in a long time, I should probably check it out lol

When you say 4G coverage are you talking the HSPA+ t mobile calls 4G or LTE coverage?

HSPA+, only 8 markets have LTE and that's spotty still even in the announced cities. Tmo LTE is showing up in NYC you just cant connect for more than a couple minutes before it realizes your the public.

Thanks. Because in a not shell I want the iPhone but was debating between the companies. Sprint is not an option for me. Learning how vzw doesn't subsidize upgrades until after two years that is a now for me. So that left AT&T and Tmobile so the question was is AT&T better and worth the extra cash for their quality

In my opinion no att is not worth it. they have slower speeds, both hspa and lte and they have worse customer service from what I hear, and with t mobiles no contract and cheaper prices its a win win.:D

Overall in my opinion T-Mobile is the better option with quality and price

Well my plan with metro consists of unlimited everything I also have for an extra $10 international calling to landlines with unlimited messaging to cell phones overseas with $5 insurance plan adding a discount of $5 for family plan my bill for me is $65 a month with tmobile will be about $95 so metro will still be my choice

Same reason I haven't switched.

It depends on where you live and use the phone. I'm not talking about New York or Your Town but your street address. The maps are at best a fair guideline.

It's a pain but if you have a problem I'd go to a store, buy a phone, and try it out for the allowed time.

Yea, that's what I planned on doing. I'm going to try Tmobile in the areas I experience problems and see if there's a major difference. I did a speed test and got about 3 down and 2 up.

I have a question... at the moment I have the S3. Not that I plan on buying a new phone anytime soon unless Metro were to get the S4 but... let's say Metro did get the S4 and I wanted to buy it, would the phone still work in 2yrs after everything has been changed over or would it be wise to just wait until then?

it will depend the metro's S4 comes out with the GSM radio you can also just wait until they come out with the merger details more and buy the T-Mobile's version of S4 as it should work once this goes through.

Yeah I'm debating whether to stay with Metro or switch to Tmobile, guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.

depends on your current plan and price.
if you have a great price and data stick with it.
I have said a few times already my wife has unthrottled lte at $40 not going to get better then that

I think anyone who flipflops between TMo and Metro before it's understood the full merger has been implemented is nuts.

Until it's finished ain't no tellin' what could happen good or bad to either or both of their signals on any given day til the dust settles.

You hit more targets when they're not movin'.
