Help Why did my Motion 4G stop working this morning?

So last night I left my phone one with wifi turned on while charging. I woke up to it turned off. No big deal, but it threw me off guard. So I tried turning it on and it was unresponsive. I started thinking wtf is going. The phone is about a week old with me. I opened the back and took out the battery for about a minute, put it back in and it turned on.

So...anyone have a clue what happened? Am I not supposed to have it on with wifi overnight?

I leave mine on overnight with wifi on all the time.

If you have a lot of processes running plus wifi you could possibly have overheated the device, especially if you are downloading and streaming music. My motion gets very hot when I have it plugged in to the charger with everything on.

Also I've heard if you are using the stock 1.5gthz ROM it can run hot.

Try disabling data while wifi is on, disable gps, and underclocking might be a good option. There are cpu modes that only use the processor when data is demanded

Menu... System settings....developer options... Process limit might help too

Well..it happened this morning again. Same scenario, I left it charging overnight with the wifi on, but I used task killer to try and not have many processes running.

I had to open the back, take out the battery and put it back in and it started working again.

Did you add any mods or scripts?
Or any apps that pertain to wifi?
I am having a simular problem in a way.
Sometimes my wifi is connected but stop sending or recieving
And sometimes my crashes pn its own or right after shutting wifi off.
I am removing a few things to see if i can correct it without unbrick ir reset

No I don't think I added any mods or scripts, I haven't rooted it either. I don't have any problems with the phone other than this.

Do you have any tethering apps or added wifi manager?
Do you ever have this problem without wifi on?
Are you using the stock charger?

No.
I haven't tested it out. I will tonight. I'll let the mobile network on and see if it still shuts off.
Yes I am.

Unrelated question.

Can a video (in this case wma) cause an app to freeze up the phone and then restart? I had an issue earlier. I used the video player that came with the phone and kept freezing and freezing when I tried playing a video a had just transferred (the app/phone froze right away as soon as I started up the app). I downloaded another app to play it and it worked. I deleted the video via the newly downloaded app and when I went to the stock video player everything ran smoothly again.

Just curious...what firmware do you currently have on your phone (C through F).

lol I would worship you if you had B firmware. xD

Haha yeah I automatically assume that. Sometimes I forget that people don't do it because they like their warranties. ;)

Software version, yes, that's your firmware. You have Firmware F

I noticed lately (currently not rooted) some lockups happening after I flashed everything back to stock (just as your phone is not rooted I'm too lazy to open up a command prompt and redo it).

I've had that happen with a few older phones. Unfortunetly you're going to have to seek out advice from the more experienced users. As far as I go is follow guides. I'm not a dev (don't think I would ever have time for it) but I hope someone will be able to help you resolve this issue.

I'm not too worried about the warranty, but I don't root it for two reasons. One, I don't want to brick my phone. And two, I don't know the benefits of rooting it. I've yet to read up on this stuff. =P

I'm also ignorant of the terminology used in smartphones such as what you wrote, "flashed." What do you mean? I've seen the word ROMs too, which I don't know the meaning off, at least in the context used.

Thanks for replying and info.

When you had this issue, were you downloading stuff on wifi while you were sleeping?

And are you on your own personal wifi?

I dont think it has to do with over heating . I left mine on top of a car while it was on plus the Sun was super hot . My phone was so hot it actually kind of burnt my hand when i grabed it . It was still working

New update. Yesterday morning it shut off again while on mobile network, however, I did not have to open the back and remove the battery and place it back. I simply turned it on normally and it worked.

Hope this shit stops 'cause it's pretty annoying.

This happened to me once, after the latest update (F). My wifi was not on though. My phone was charging and after it charged to 100% I unplugged the cord, and a few minutes later it turned off. I was pressing the power button but it wasn't turning on. I didn't have to take the battery out though. I just held the power button down for a few seconds and it finally turned on. Hasn't happened again since.

Update.

Happened this morning, but I think I know what may be causing it. I woke up and it was still on. I downloaded a "Force Stop" App and stopped some apps. None that I would consider essential to running the operating system. Anyway, I did that and took a nap. I woke up and my phone was turned off and had to take out the battery to get it running again.
It dawned on me that in the past days I didn't touch apps like "Task Killer" and "RAM Booster" "Cache Cleaner" and when the phone was still on in the morning while connected to the charger. I'm going to leave my phone charging with wi-fi turned on tonight and not open or use any of those apps I mentioned and see if that's what's causing the problem.

IMO, many phone issues often come back to the owner having a flaming case of the "Ohhhhh! SHINY's!" when it comes to Apps on their phone...

Thank God I am not so afflicted.

Update.

Woke up around 6am and I checked to see if it was still on (wifi on and connected to the charger). It was. Silly me then opened up a battery app (which tells you the temperature) out of curiosity. I put the phone back down and went back to sleep. Went to sleep and 3 hours later I woke up and checked the phone, it was off.

I may be on a differnt page but could it be a battery saver app gone rouge? Because they do shut down data when the batt dips below a set %. Maybe the update changed the harmony of the app? Like I said I may be wrong so save thoose comments for another time. :{>
