The Galaxy S4 Almost Had a Metal Body, But Adding It Would Have Delayed Shipping | Android News - AndroidHeadlines.com

Instead of knocking it out of the park, Samsung opted to bunt instead. I am sure people would have waited a little longer for a premium build.

I have heard the Note III is getting a redesign with aluminum, but... Im not going to hold my breath.

I would not mind being one waiting for a premium build. That would be great to have. But I would not be like an Apple fan waiting in line weeks for the launch, that's just sad.

Funny story. We were eating out and sitting outside Saturday night. Watched a guy drop his iPhone out of his pocket and totally bust it. Wife did not look impressed.
True story, I've had my plastic/inferior Gnex for a year and a half and it doesn't have a scratch on it, without a case nonetheless. "Build quality", my left foot. :p;)

Metal does not = premium. Imo quite the opposite. Something along the lines of, say, a lack of faith in build quality elsewhere throughout the phone.

True. Titanium would be premium as would platinum :)

They still scratch, graze, etc, but, titanium is much harder to dent. I know from experience having scraped my titanium watch along a brick wall as I got off my bike, and since then I have a whole load more titanium jewellery (pics were posted, I'm sure some here, remember) so if your a manufacturer focusing purely on strength and aesthetics, I wouldn't choose titanium either.

As Dread said, my 'inferior plastic S3' is mint, evan after several drops from upto a foot-ish away.

I like the polycarb that is in the One series phones. Nice feel to it and plenty durable.
Interested to here about the new line of Gorilla Glass rumored to be on the X phone.
Probably won't happen, but the shatter proof, the better. :)

X, my wife has tossed her Bionic all over the place (ironically, not because it's a POS ;)) and it's still holding up just fine even with a couple scuffs.

Sitting here pondering what type of advances are yet to come for one of my electronic addictions: smart phones, which, ironically, I use very little to actually place calls on. Have these devices reached a wall? Screen size keeps getting bigger, but the overall features stay pretty much the same. Lately the last few smart phone releases have left me with, "Meh"

Whats next? Upping the cores on the central processors? Adding more ram? A 14nm architecture? Higher resolution screen? Better cameras?

Have smart phones reached their limit? So far, each iteration has seen slight upgrades in processing power, batteries, megapixel pushing, screen size and resolution. Most upgrades seem to be more into social media, which I really don't get involved in.

Whats new? Whats next? What would the next generation of smart phones bring? I am starting to become weary that a wall has been hit.

Sorry, just a random outpour of thoughts :)

Thats true. I run my note II naked. Completely. No screen protector (never used one on any device and I laugh at carriers when they try to push them on me)

I have yet to wreck my screen. Not even sure if the rest of the phones I have have gotten nicked or scratched or what not.

But... My first droid with keyboard was aluminum, my droid x was aluminum, both had replaceable batteries (I think the droid did). Both felt very good in hand, SOLID devices. But my OG droid did some how get a dent on the keypad. Metal deforms and stays like that. Plastic flexes.

Both have their pros and cons, I guess.

I have also heard that Aluminum interferes with radio signals more then polycarbonate. Not sure on this.

:)

Maybe it's me, or maybe others have a completely different idea of build quality than I do, but in my opinion there isn't a damn thing wrong with the plastic S3's build quality, or the Galaxy Tab's... You know when you come across crap build quality in say, a laptop, when you pick it up with one hand by the side and you can feel it flex co*acer*ugh as for phones, well, the are no gaps between materials, no loose screws raping around, no flexing when assembled, no missing out wobbly buttons, so, am I missing something or are build quality issues more of a phantom that everyone claims to know someone who's phone has <insert issue of choice > but really it's either a vast exaggeration or a user fault / mistreatment?

Don't get me wrong, sure there is Quality control etc, but some handsets will slip through with some defect or other, but all in all, I think the subject in general is exaggerated

Pretty much exactly describes the S4 :p

Thank you.:congrats::thumbup:

Probably my favorite Portlandia skit :D
I actually saw both these guys at one of the local Whole Foods last year. Did a double take! Think they were doing their standup in town.

Ah, I missed the title, sorry bro.

And thanks.

But I personally think the build quality issue is an exaggerated/phantom thing, especially on flagship devices.

However low budget devices is another story.

/leaves dead horse to rot in peace.

Sorry about that ;)

Still full from my McMuffins.

What about you ?

Thinking about this yummy chicken breast I packed.

Better thought would be uh..... JUST ABOUT ANYTHING!

Geeze as much as I love summer, I hate it.

X .... keep up honey, breakfast was Mickey D's lunch is chicken.... lol
