What's up everybody. For those of you that didn't catch it, there was an article about the Phonepad+ accessory that is being developed in the UK. Initial release will be limited to UK only. They currently are marketing to make compatible for S2, S3, and S4...but they are definitely open to making compatible with other devices, if the demand is there. I received an email from the manufacturer stating that there is no current intent to support the Galaxy Note phone series, but it can be done if the demand is there.

That said, here is the link to the phandroid article:

Spread the word!

Hi Drex

Looks very interesting, thank you for drawing our attention to it.

The situation may have moved on a little from the time you emailed the manufacturer because when I enquired about the Note 2, I received the following reply :-

"Thank you for taking the time to email us.

At present the Phonepad is currently compatible with S2 and S3 Samsung phones. We are expecting to release an S4 version in a couple of months hopefully followed by a Samsung Galaxy note version.

The Phonepad will be available to pre order in June from Amazon.

Stay tuned to all the upcoming news." (with my under lining)

Since it is, in the first instance at least, being focused on the S 2, 3 and 4 there is no mention of the use of an s-pen. As a keen user of the pen I think it would be even better if it could be used to input text on something similar to A4 paper; I suppose we can but hope at this stage though.

Wow, didn't realize I could influence so many people in a short time... Roflmao... Thanks for posting your reply from them. That is great news. Even though it would be UK only, I won't mind paying for intentional ship on that.

Hmm 230 for the device and then having to pay international shipping. I need a second job to fund my tech habit.

Glad it's getting some publicity elsewhere. The more the demand, the more likely they're willing to branch out beyond UK.

We'll see. If it sticks at that price. And even still, it'd basically be the money I would've put towards a tablet. It might not be worth the money for some, but I may end up getting this thing in addition to a tablet.

Here's my reasoning:
I'm basically thinking of using this as a custom car screen. I'm a moderator on a car forum and a device like this would allow for I.C.E. (In Car Entertainment) as a "car-puter" setup, without worries regarding compatibility.

Measurements, in inches, are 7.36 (187mm) X 10.62 (270mm) X .79 (20mm).

Of course, we'd still have to see if there's any significant lag when mirroring or how good the touchscreen will be in comparison to the actual phone. The beauty of something like this is that, if the manufacturers could create a more universal setup (on the overall outside dimensions of the device), it could end up being the perfect option for Car shops to create car-puter setup for Androids (rather than using a tablet). There are two (2) 3.5mm ports, which I'd imagine could serve well for enhanced stereo audio.

I like the prospect of what this could offer, beyond just being a phone mirroring extension (ala the Asus Padfone).

And, just an update to my last email, this was the reply I received:

Thanks Drex,

Appreciate your feedback.

Stay tuned and hope you get hold of one of the early ones form Amazon.

If this thing is sold on Amazon and is available for the Note 2, it'll be tough for me to hold back from purchasing.

Thanks Drex. Interesting accessory. Though I am almost certain the screen will be a regular capacitive touchscreen without the digitizer. Otherwise they would need to modify the design to allow users access to the S Pen when docked. It will also add to costs if they do decide to have a digitizer added to the screen as well.

I already have the Note 10.1 and not giving that up any time soon. Though wouldn't mind sending out an inquiry to increase the chances of it coming out for others. :).

I think I'd have a different stance, if I had purchased either of the Note tablets already...but, I could easily see myself still getting both this and the Note tablet (whichever I end up with), and I'd end up creating a custom car-puter/in-dash dock with the phonepad+
