Help SD card damaged error.

pandacookie

Panda-riffic!
I know this was an issue for Sandisk cards, but mine is a PNY card. 32 gigs, class 10. And I keep getting the damaged SD card error, asking me to reformat. Any fixes? I've already reformatted three times.

Same issue... same card... same class and size. I wrote here when I had the problem and there was a definite consensus that there was no solution. It sucks, I know. I lost many many pictures of my little ones.

Now, I have my pictures put on my internal phone memory (because I'm scared the card will malfunction again). I have heard that the class 10 cards could be the issue. (If anyone has heard this or heard this not to be true please chime in). So I'm eventually going to get a different card that is not class 10.

Sorry.

no matter what brand of SD you use, if your pics are important to you then you should set up automatic cloud storage with Dropbox or G+ etc just for peace of mind, especialy with the s3s track record.
Sorry u lost pics of your kids mate, that sux

The class 10 thing, tbh everything ive read its been class 10 or "ultra" cards that have failed but maybe thats just because theyre so cheap now that thats what everyone buys

So I'm out thirty dollars. Man, that sucks. I had a lot of music on there. But everything has been backed up. So the card is damaged for good, then?

Email either the vendor or manufacturer.. chances are theyl replace it. Ive even heard of them sending a new one without you sending the old one when u mention it died in a s3

I've now have had my SanDisk 64 gb class 10 card installed for over a month now. I definitely agree that you should backup your pictures to the cloud or to your PC, but I wrote this up about a month ago when I read about all the problems. I do believe (at least with SanDisk ExFat cards that removing that extra partition and then using that stand alone formatting program made the difference. I've been reading and writing to my card routinely and have not had any problems (I am going to be so sorry that I said that!)

Jinxed yourself mate :)
Lol yeah, ive had my 32Gb Sandisk Ultra for atleast 6months now i think, i didnt partition or format it other than formatting it in the phone when i 1st got it. havent had a single problem with it.. yet :)
Ive also heard that it could be heat related. Ive had my s3 overclocked hitting over 50

I have the Zerolemon covering the SD card area. Could there be heat coming from that? Could it have damaged my card?

I doubt it tbh.. most of the heat comes from the bottom half of the s3
Also, i used to use really cheap androids modified and overclocked so they performed better. They got much hotter than the s3 and at a point closer to the SD and ive never had a card fail on me

So I called PNY, and spoke to a technician, who said they'd replace the card IF I have the sales receipt.

:'(

I don't think I have it.

Ouch. Where did you buy it from? Thats the nice thing about buying from online stores like Amazon, you dont have to keep a receipt

Pretty unfair of PNY though.. you can prove that its their product and it doesnt work so that should be enough. Never buy from them again!

I won't! I got it from Best Buy, BTW.

Previously, I would have said YES -- until I had the third SD card failure last week. I make frequent backups of my SD cards (now), so I was able to get a new card, format that in the phone, and copy all my stuff back to it.

But then, I put the old card back in the phone -- and it would not mount. So, I stuck it in my PC, reformatted it, and THEN stuck it back in the phone -- where it said it needed to be reformatted (!). But then, it did reformat it, and was able to use it again. But ... I'm not using it because it's failed once, already.

Have you tried formatting it to FAT32 on your computer? Worked for me. SanDisk 64GB. I used to get the SD Card failed notification (got the card around January or so.) After reformatting I haven't had the error message since.

Because I have Windows 8, I had to download EaseUS Partition in order to format the card. Found it on CNET.

**** Just to clarify - Windows only gave me EXFAT and something else as options. I had to get EaseUS to force it to FAT32.

On the SanDisk 64gb, there is a second partition, did you get rid of that and extend the partition? The information about it can be found here.

I will try that. Thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.
