Hmmmmm.... if they were potentially fired, you don't think they could be, I don't know...... bitter about it?
Maybe in their mind they see the extra year and insurance as just extra pocket lining cash for VZW, which in a way could be, if you never use it, but I'd hate to damage my phone 3 or 4 months after getting it and have to pony up another 6 bills to replace it.

As far as the 2 year contract, I'm not planning on leaving VZW anyway, so if it gets me not only an extra upfront discount on the retail price of the phone, but also my extra $100 NE2 discount, then it's totally worth it to me. The only (potential) downside is that I won't get another phone discount for 2 years, but I'm getting a HUGE one now. And if I want a new phone next year, I could always sell the current one which will give me just about as much in my pocket as the smaller discount that VZW gives on a 1-year anyway, plus I wouldn't have the extra NE2 discount.

I've been with VZW long enough to get a $100 NE2, but I know for new customers in the last 1 - 1.5 years, they're only getting $50. If I were to get a 1-year, and then later go back to 2-year, I'd only be getting $50 in the future. :(

I still don't quite understand how NE2 works.... I've heard its based on the monthly plan cost, but then someone else on here said it wasn't. I've been with Verizon for 10+ years and am on a $39.99 individual plan currently and have been told I get $50 for NE2. Should I be getting $100?

I have never bought accessories for a phone before I had it in my hand but I'm going to with this one. Bring em on. But....there has to by a better car dock out there.

Now that we know the phone is coming, people should start asking their piddly questions like "does this phone do this because i had a dream where Montana Man came riding a horse and whispered in my ear?" or "zomg can I get my NE2 with Best Buy even though it's a full moon and I'm on Sprint?" or "WTH PEEPLE ANSZER MY QUESTION!!!" all through this pseduo chat room.

Seriously. The forum can function better when people ask relevant questions as a new topic and get relevant answers in reply to them. Then that way, we don't have to tell someone "oh yeah we discussed this 23 pages ago" and people can easily search what questions have already been resolved.

Who's with me?

I agree

Yeah, considering you can upgrade every year with 2 yr pricing if you're the main line or on a single plan, i don't see why you wouldn't keep extending it if you didn't plan on leaving verizon.

True, I was just stating what the article said. However, I will most likely go 1 year and no insurance. I dunno, we"ll see. I'm not really worried about it right now.

Can this phone be used overseas while traveling?

Also, has there been any discussion on audio quality. Experince tells me that sometimes these phones are great for everything buy Phone calls.

VZW is a CDMA network, so if you're planning on dropping in a SIM card from an international GSM carrier, it's not going to happen.

Best Buy Mobile updated their blog to reflect the correct language as well:

The Droid Incredible by HTC will be available for pre-sale at Best Buy Mobile stores starting Sunday, April 18. Customers will be able to reserve a new Incredible for pick-up once it hits stores later this month. This is an exclusive pre-sale offer that you won’t find anywhere else, including Verizon stores. Stop by your nearest location to stake your claim! Note: pre-sale available in Best Buy Mobile stores only. Online pre-sales are not available at this time.

[ . . . ]

This will reserve an Incredible for the customer. They'll be able to pick it up when it's available in-store later in the month.

Note that it doesn't exactly say what day. Wonder what that means...

i just called the best buy mobile in Woodfield mall and the girl said that we can preorder on the 18th and receive the phone on the 20th? wtf?! i asked her twice to repeat herself and she said the 20th... also she said that their store does not support Verizon and to go to a regular bb store down the street in Schaumburg, IL. Im so confused now!

I still don't quite understand how NE2 works.... I've heard its based on the monthly plan cost, but then someone else on here said it wasn't. I've been with Verizon for 10+ years and am on a $39.99 individual plan currently and have been told I get $50 for NE2. Should I be getting $100?

I am the same, been a customer since 2004 (my own line) and my plan is $39.99 and I only get $50.

If I'm entering the number of the line that I took the upgrade from, how does the Incredible get assigned the number that I want? (the one w/o NE2?)

The system recognizes it

How easy is it to do the "Alternate Upgrade" online, figuring if I do the online pre-order.

Cant be done online- only over the phone (and in-store of course)

BUT... NONE of the sources have said anything about it for sure. It sounds like SMEs have the phones in their hands and we haven't heard a solid yes or no. What are the odds that Verizon is keeping that information confidential until they feel like releasing it? Something tells me that they're not done surprising us yet. We had NO CLUE about the TV out until we saw the PDF, and then it was confirmed by Anon...

My store's SME does not have theirs yet- I wouldnt expect the units to arrive until Wednesday

Just like someone else said:

If you order online, you can take to to a retail store to deal with issues.

I have oredered EVERY phone I have had through VerizonWireless.com. When my LG Chocolate screen died, I took it to the store and they replaced it for free. When the touch stopped working on my LG Dare, I took it to a retail store and they replaced it for free.

I just don't know if I want to order online this time because I can't skip work like I could skip class in college.

Ship it to work. :D Problem solved.

i will be impressed if another person is there with me. last time i got their early (i think it was for the BB Tour) there wasnt a single person in the store the first 20 minutes i was there.

The only date when the place was actually PACKED on was when the Storm came out. That was one hyped up phone...and one of the first real touchscreen phones that showed promise.

Again, you guys need to realize the few hundred or so people that are part of this thread are the fanatics, I think that 99.9% of verizon customers will not even know about this phone until some day when they walk into the store.
This tbqh

The Inc will not be a world-capable phone, so no SIM, but you can use it on any international CDMA network

Good question.

I am traveling to the U.S. Virgin Islands in a month and want to know if i am going to get whored with roaming charges.

Has anyone had experience travelling there with verizon?

On VZW.com, there's a section that talks about international charges. Also, someone asked a few pages back about data roaming- on the Droid, there's a setting to turn off international data roaming, and only use Wi-Fi- I would expect the Inc to be the same way..

I still don't quite understand how NE2 works.... I've heard its based on the monthly plan cost, but then someone else on here said it wasn't. I've been with Verizon for 10+ years and am on a $39.99 individual plan currently and have been told I get $50 for NE2. Should I be getting $100?

The NE2 program has been grandfathered- started at $100, then they lowered it to $50, now its at $30.. Eventually will probably go away altogether..

Idk...The Evo's screen is too big IMO. I don't want to feel like I'm holding a netbook next to my face when I'm making phone calls.

The EVO screen is much larger than the Inc. The phone itself, however, is not much bigger at all. It's a smarter design and I wish Verizon had something in the EVO form factor. Maybe in June when my NE2 comes up the Shadow will be near release.

New Every Two
You will be eligible to upgrade your phone at discounted pricing on 10/05/10 and will be eligible to receive an additional New Every Two discount on 10/05/10.

This make me :(

What's the earliest anyone seen them change this?

It may not be the news you were hoping for, but it is confirmation that there is no 720p recording...yet ;)

I would look for this to be added in a near-term post-launch update.

Furthermore, for those of us in the root/ROM community, i would look for this to be enabled with the first batch of custom ROMs.

Since insurance seems to be a topic of concern, I though I would mention a few things. My area of expertise is primarily commercial property insurance, but here are a few considerations:

  • Premium: For a 2-year contract you'll be paying $168 ($7/mo. x 24 mos.) in total premium.
  • Deductibles: Seem to be around $50. Add this to the total premium and you get $218 in out-of-pocket costs.
  • Recovery: This is the deal breaker for me. From my research, most of these policies do not provide you with a monetary settlement. They send you a replacement phone in the event of a loss (imagine if your auto policy did this!). This is usually a refurb and does not have to be the exact model unless specified in the policy.
Just my $.02. Personally, I'll be taking the risk prevention route and buying a case, etc. $25 seems like a pretty good deal to me. :)

Has anyone ever looked into adding their phone to a personal articles policy through their home/auto insurer? I inquired about this with our insurance rep a few months ago and he said it would be something like $3-$4 every 6 months! Go in their office and get a check for the retail cost of the phone, no questions asked (well, I'm sure there would be a few questions, but YKWIM! ;)). We are with State Farm; not sure if it's similar with other insurers as well.

RWZCore_ESE_20100411_Coupon.pdf
Here is a link to a coupon for Reward Zone members. It says you save 10% on accessories (maybe there will be some), and you get 500 reward points with the purchase of any Android phone. It expires on the 19th so go for it on the 18th.
RWZCore_ESE_20100411_Coupon.pdf

I got that last night and I noticed that in the 10% coupon it says "no-contract phones." So I'm wondering if that'll work for any of us who have to pay retail for their Incredible, or if by "no-contract" they mean prepaid phones.

im excited to see how this phone performs. im debating on ordering it on monday or waiting for it to get into stores and go play with it next to the moto droid. idk what to get yet.

My wife's new every two date is May 6th and all the stories of VZW moving up peoples NE2 dates had me fired up to pre-order the Incredible on Monday, but a call to Verizon informed me that that date is the 20 month anniversary already, and the rep said he can't move the date any earlier... ARGH! I want this phone today but it looks like I'll have to wait 'till May 6th (did I mention ARGH!!!?)

It's kinda funny they don't want to get my money in their account a few weeks early...

Trust me keep trying, I posted yesterday and told my story. My wife and I are in a 2 year contract, she is the primary line. Her one year isnt until July, she isn't eligible until Feb 2010 for her NE2. I called several times, and talked to a few managers. Finally a manager named Drew helped me out. He ended up giving her the NE2 upgrade now. I mean she is still a few months off until her 1 year, and this guy gives us the NE2 upgrade.

Be polite, stay calm, and stay level headed. They can help, but you have to find the right person.

It's been years since I've gotten NE2 (because I get a yearly upgrade), but if you don't mind forfeiting your extra $50 (or whatever you get) off, I'm willing to bet they'd approve you for early upgrade so you can get 2-year pricing.
