Help Note 2 storage issue...

OneZeoN

Newbie
Hi

I have a 16gb Note 2 (loooove it!) and a 32gb mem card.
Ive noticed my phone space is under 500mb now and I want to make apps auto save on the memory card or even move them over to it.

Is there a way to move apps to mem card?

I have like 28gb spare on the card

Thanks

Hello OneZeoN.

If your device is rooted, there are several reliable apps for the purpose of moving and/or installing on the removable sd memory card. However, stock devices designed by Google/Android after the "4" version of the OS will for the most part use only internal storage for most apps and widgets, etc.

Here is their reasoning, as quoted from Samsun Support (not a carrier store floor monkey, an actual tech level support person):

"Thank you for contacting Samsung Customer Support.

I’m sorry you are having issues moving your apps to SD card. I can understand your frustration as it is good for freeing up memory on the tablet or phone.

Please note that moving or installing apps to external storage is no longer available on any Android from version 4.0 and above, due to how the Android operating system reads storage on our devices.

The Android OS now operates on a unified storage system from Ice Cream Sandwich onward, meaning it will read one data partition for storage, rather than two.

The reason why previous Android versions had the capability of moving apps to external storage was because the phones memory was split into two partitions, one for external storage and one for internal.

Now, with Android using a unified storage system, all applications will be stored completely on the internal memory of the phone. This allows for around 11GB of storage space on a 16GB device for apps. Google, the developer of Android, feels this is more than enough for users, as their operating system was designed for use on their own phones as well, which do not have any external storage at all.

Please also note that we do not advertise any of our devices as having the capability of running or installing apps directly onto the external memory card. You will have to install your apps to the internal memory, but anything else (music, videos, documents etc.) can be stored on your external memory card."

Thanks for reply

I am rooted (don't tinker much as only rooted to use the ps3 wireless pad)
What app should I use to move things to the sd card?

There are many apps to move stuff from internal to external, the questions is what do you have that is using so much of your internal memory, if it is Music, apps, that can easily be move by use an app called ES File Explorer, you could also try apps to AD, that will also tell what apps can be moved or not.

You could also, switch your internal memory to be external and visa verses, see below hack

[MOD][15DEC]ExtSd2InternalSd v5.5|Increase your data storage|100% Working|
[ 1 2 3 ... Last ]

It's not moving apps and stuff to external storage that is the problem it is running the apps from the external storage that is the problem.

Hi
you need to use an app called directory bind, it looks complicated but there are plenty of youtube videos showing you how, this is how i learnt, i currently have over 9gb of mostly games stored on my external sd card, so i have plenty of internal space left :-)

I have a Mach Speed Technologies Trio Stealth 10.1 16 GB Tablet MST10-21 with a 32 GB external Micro SD Card.

Android version 4.1.1
Kernel version 3.0.8
Build number JR003C.20131024.v004

I have moved some apps including the APK files to the external card, and when some apps update, or I want to install a new app, I get an error about not enough storage space.

The Apps still work and update, but some won't because it shows "low memory"

Under Settings then Storage, for Internal Storage, it shows:
Total Space 1.94 GB
Apps (app data & media content) 1.56 GB
Available 329 MB.

Then on the Internal SD Card it shows:
Total Space 10.31 GB
Apps (app data & media content) 1.59 GB
Pictures, videos 278 MB
Audio (music, ringtones, podcasts, etc) 200 KB
Misc. 16.65 MB
Available 8.38 GB

On my External SD card, it shows:
Total Space 29.71 GB
Available 27.66 GB

I have used File Manager by Gira.me being it is better than some other file managers, and I have been able to copy and paste several files from the internal SD card to the external SD card to free up space, and then delete the files from the internal SD card, and I also use ApptoSD-Click to move APP to the SD card.

I have several Apps that I can see via the Settings menu, but they won't allow me to move them to the external SD card either.

I have some root apps and Root All to SD, but am not very familiar rooting and so on.

I am not able to uninstall any "Google" Apps at all, even though I don't use them. I have contacted Mach Speed Technologies, but they haven't been much help.

Being I am new here, I can not post any screen shots.

There are several folders on the Internal Memory that have files that have an icon that looks like a page out of a notebook, but I can't open them, and I wonder what folders I can completely remove, if any to free up memory.

In some cases i.e. Family Guy The Quest for Stuff installed just fine, but it is on the external SD card, and then when there is an update, it won't download or install due to low memory.

I even uninstalled it and tried to install the newer version, and it will install and then there is an update, but it won't install.

Also, any music, picture or videos are not stored on the internal memory at all,

I would appreciate any help with this. Thank you in advance.

Susan
