well i'm glad everything worked out for you. i understand how you felt at the beginning. i was like that as well when i first rooted my og evo......so it is all good.

and i word of warning this rooting and flashing business can be addicting. if you need to help then we have some support groups. here is one of them:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/700781-og-evo-flashaholics-anonymous.html or you can go to meetings here:http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/265131-hi-my-name-jim-i-have-flashing-addiction.html

now if you ever get bored with mikg you can start and learn how to theme. this is a great forum for that:Android Themes - Android Forums

and here is a guide to help you out:http://androidforums.com/android-themes/636848-new-themeing-guide.html

Flash the EVO 4G to cricket? Mike knows I'm gonna be full of questions. My evo is rooted thanks to Mike and his help, now I want too flash this to cricket, for my daughter, so I can get my HTC ONE.

all help is appreciated!

Ok I was able to get the watermark off but still showing S-ON. What did I miss? I thought it would go to S-OFF. So now I just went into H-Boot and it asked to update again and I chose no since I already did and it asked to reboot and I chose no. Now I have a picture on the front of my phone of a phone with a red triangle and exclamation point? What is this?

what method did you try?the red exclamation point means you have a stock recovery and not a custom one.....so you are going for s-off?

I went back and used the HTCDev Method from here:

How to ROOT HTC Evo 2.3.5 with Bootloader 2.18

and started off at step 6 and obviously missed something. Is it because I was already rooted? At step 11 It showed no watermark but instaed of showing S-OFF it was S-ON. I missed something.

from the guide which is ripoff of the captn throwback's method by the way:
11) Once the update is complete, you will have HBOOT 2.10 and radio 2.15.00.11.19, which is rootable with unrevoked (Notice that the watermark is now COMPLETELY gone!)

You will need to use unrevoked3, which will install a custom recovery and unlock your NAND with unrevoked forever (Wiki HERE, guide HERE - starting under "SECTION 2: ROOTING PROCEDURE"). TIP: Make sure your device is disconnected when first running the unrevoked3 "reflash_package.exe". When it opens, choose "File", then "Custom Recovery ...". Navigate to the location of your preferred RA recovery.img file, and select. Then, when it's done, you'll be NAND unlocked, and have your preferred custom recovery!.

unfortunately team unrevoked has moved on and they pulled the unrevoked files off of their site. you will have to use revolutionary.

use this ruu here:Dev-Host - PC36IMG_SuperSonic_GB_Sprint_WWE_4.54.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.0808_NV_2.15_release_220182_signed.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

and then use this guide to get s-off:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

Didn't know it was ripped off. Wow some people! I apologize for not knowing. If I had I wouldn't have used it obviously. Well I still have all the files I used like a couple of weeks ago. (see thumbnail)
Just need to know how to get back to where I need to be for S-OFF. Already updating back to 4.54.651.1

its all good, its not like these guides are copyrighted. i just wish that peeps give credit where credit is due.

use the guide i linked above for revolutionary, once you get to 4.54.

the only thing you will need is amon ra recovery. revolutionary is cool in that it gives you a recovery, just not a very good one. so i would switch recoveries once it is all done. in the guide there is an after root section that has tons of info including how to switch recoveries.

so most of that stuff you do not need.

gotta step out for a couple of hours and will return. If I can still get some help then it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, be back soon.

Whoa, I missed a bunch of stuff here:p
Ocn has got ya going towards a full s-off eh smiley? Sweet!
And revolutionary still works as I used it on an Evo I have recently!

no not yet. you need to update the phone to the 4.54 ota with the PC36IMG file i linked in my last post.

then use revolutionary to get s-off.

Alright, isn't revolutionary used to root your phone? I'm already rooted, unlocked, no watermark, S-ON. Wouldn't running revolutionary be rooting my phone an additional time?

OCNBRZE you are awesome!!!
Thanks again for putting me in my place, just where I needed to be.
I am learning and let me tell you, I thought I lost my phone today when I was stuck at 3.xx.xxx.x version,
with S-ON still showing on phone trying to get the watermark off. The rEVOlutionARY that you suggested
worked flawlessly with no hiccups and switching recoveries was a snap.
Just flash it over the other is all!!
Thanks again OCNBRZE:D
Now I'm back to flashing MikG again and waiting for my sdcard to come in.
Then onto a new kernel with a cm a2sd cooked into it.
Then partitioning and overclocking....WooWhoo!!
Just one more question though.....When I do find what I'm looking for, and say I flash a new rom and restore my apps,
will Titanium Backup perform all of them automatically or do I need Pro version to do that?
I got it now...I perform an app backup with Titanium Backup and when I restore them after flashing a new rom then they will be moved to sdcard automatically because the kernel has cm a2sd cooked into it. Ta-Da:)

Absolutely! I think even with the new phones hitting the market people find models that are versatile and are able to be customized in a way that people really like. There is alot of developing that I have seen and heard about on the EVO which I believe still makes it popular among the "new." I'll be here now and again and will definitely help out where I can. I am still learning but can give my experience that I have gained "messing" around with my OG EVO.:dancing2:

The reason I'm on tonight is that I installed Titanium Backup * root to familiarize myself before my 32g card comes in, and it keeps giving me force close when I choose "see available space" (where by the way my sd card is not showing up) at the bottom of the screen in TB*root. I don't know what is going on. So I uninstalled it.:(

You know now that I've had MikG for a little while I'd like to try out some new things, since I'm S-OFF now, like custom kernel with a2sd and cool tweaks added in but looking for an updated rom and kernel list . I have found some that are linked throughout the forum but all look a few years old. I'm still confused on what I need to put together to flash the different kernels and roms like SENSE/AOSP. Its just getting too much for me to keep up with: non-sbc's, cfs kernels, odexed/deodexed. Retaining all the info is getting to be challenging for me to understand what is needed for what. I'm getting burned out already. Then I catch some posts about alienmod5 and 4korners and others I just can't remember at this time, but where do I find all of those? Goodness I'm tired:ahhhhh::hmmmm2:😴

ok so first off lets hold off on kernels and lets deal with roms first. i undertand that all this can be overwhelming. i learned all this over time and not have this shoved at me all at once....so i can see how that can be too much.

ok lets deal with sd card issue......can you access your sd card thru the phone? does your pc see it as well?

and as far as roms go, you can go here:http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/618281-list-utilities-apps-roms-kernels-og-evo.html. alienmod and 4kornerz are aosp roms so they will be in that section. if you want great suggestions then checkout the staff picks section.

we can simplify things a bit for you if you want to. all you need to do is ask away and we can provide help. just let us know and we can help with kernel as well.......but it is better if we just take things in chunks rather then all at once.

so.....besides what i already said, where subject would you like to get help with first? what questions do you have?

Well right now I have MikG which is a Sense rom (correct?) on the stock kernel. I get that. I'm trying to go with a custom kernel (not sure which are better (SENSE/AOSP) so I can maximize my storage and push my apps to a class 10 32gb card and partitioning it, but not sure what ext2, ext3 or ext4 is. (<<< think they are the different types of partitions) Then if I go that route I need a custom kernel, correct? Anyway I know with custom kernels I can get the setcpu to overclock and also a2sd only works with custom kernels. (correct?) And I need that to partition, right? I have alot of music and movies I'd like to put on it as well (reason for partitioning mostly) and run my apps from the card to save on internal storage and cpu usage. So TB*root wouldn't work for me but wanted to try it since it was free. I plan on buying pro next week to push them all at once instead of accepting one at a time, which is a big difference in the two I believe. I guess I'm just being impatient in that I wish I was already where alot of people are with this rooting and flashing our phones. I know it takes time, so sorry for the wine session OCNBRZE. Got any cheese? LOL. Like you said one thing at a time. I just would like to have more storage, faster cpu, less bloatware apps, better battery life and good connection. I know there is alot of tweaks out there as well and I guess I just dove into everything at once trying to do it all when it is really too much information to take in at once and get your phone where you want it in 2-3 weeks. I need to be more realistic. I just don't know what to do first. Sorry it's soooo long. My wife says I'm as bad as a woman sometimes. I just go on and on. And I tell her "How else are people going to know what I'm trying to say or mean?" Thanks for being there guys.

ok so i numbered your post to make things clearer for you.

1. mikg is a sense rom so you will need a sense(gingerbread) kernel. aosp kernels will not work with sense.

2. a custom kernel does not have anything to do with a2sd. kernels basically will control how the phone will perform. it controls battery life and speed of the phone. you will need setcpu to control and fine tune the kernel.

3. with a2sd, you will need to partition the card to ext3( most roms have no support for ext4) and then if you stay with mikg then it has a2sd cooked in so once partioned, your apps should move automatically.

4. why did tb not work for you? you are rooted so it should have been fine. did it give an error? or did it say you do not have root access?

5. yes i love cheese....my favorite is Roquefort which i had earlier today....delicious.

and if you feel like diving head on then we can definitely help you with that. do you know how to swim? cuz the pool is pretty deep;):p:D

holy crap Ocn, what have you done!!!

Another addict, you sir are an enabler!! :D

Welcome the the dark side Smiley, life is good here, just go slow. Baby steps. :)

My wife runs MikG on my old OG Evo, can't remember what kernel I run with it anymore. Enjoy your freedom, you're in great hands here. :)

what did i do?

i plead the fifth:p

ok so i numbered your post to make things clearer for you.

1. mikg is a sense rom so you will need a sense(gingerbread) kernel. aosp kernels will not work with sense.

-so just flash any sense rom you want to try. has to be gingerbread because thats the stock platform of the kernel I am running.

2. a custom kernel does not have anything to do with a2sd. kernels basically will control how the phone will perform. it controls battery life and speed of the phone. you will need setcpu to control and fine tune the kernel.

-so I can partition without a custom kernel. just wait until my new card comes in, backup with...I don't know...something I can get to work, then partition and restore back to new card.(will have to investigate TB problem)

3. with a2sd, you will need to partition the card to ext3( most roms have no support for ext4) and then if you stay with mikg then it has a2sd cooked in so once partioned, your apps should move automatically.

-to move automatically I need a backup app installed to perform this, or it does it on it's own once the backed up data is restored in recovery?

4. why did tb not work for you? you are rooted so it should have been fine. did it give an error? or did it say you do not have root access?

Not sure. I am rooted and thought it would work just fine as well. It gave me a force close. It did not say "do not have root access"-UPDATE- Re-downloaded TB...now it is working..wheww!!:D

5. yes i love cheese....my favorite is Roquefort which i had earlier today....delicious.

-Mine is a simple Pepper Jack cheese. Love the spice!:eating:

and if you feel like diving head on then we can definitely help you with that. do you know how to swim? cuz the pool is pretty deep;):p:D
-yes I have put my feet in the water..waded out too far...and I am finding it hard to find the way back. Shouldn't jump in when you can't see the bottom, unless you've already been there. I'll stay in the shallow for now OCNBRZE. You did warn me well in advance.
