sluggish...thinking of factory reset..

My phone now has lots of apps etc and doesn't act like it's new anymore
regarding response time etc...

anyone reset their phone lately?

I've had my S3 since January but I haven't put many apps on because from past experience with the original Galaxy S I knew it would slow things down.

Before you do a reset, try going through your application manager and delete some apps that you don't use to see if it speeds things up a bit.

Also disable any apps you never use that can't be uninstalled (Personally I disabled google currents/magazines etc)

YESSSSS!!!!

i do factory resets every month...just clears shit out of the way, and forces me to reinstall only the apps i truly need....Love how it feels "brand new" after every reset....

i recommend it.

Thats a good point lol.. apart from the obvious benefits, resetting can make you choose which apps you really want on the phone so you dont keep it cluttered up with crap you were just too lazy to uninstall when you realised it was crap :)

Sorry but its far more effort to factory reset then add the apps you want back on as opposed to simply pressing a couple of buttons to delete an app you dont want.

As pointed out above, a cache reset every so often and just deleting an app you dont want is quicker.

still, if you are happy, who am i to say any different lol

I think everyone should do this every six months or so. My phone had become sluggish and battery usage kept creeping up. After a reset and judicious reinstall, the phone is snappy and resting battery usage is often under 50mA.

Unless you are rooted and using Titanium Backup which will install all your apps back without intervention once you start the restore.

Try clearing the cache first. Turn phone off and boot into recovery by holding in Power, Volume Up and Home buttons, use volume keys to navigate to Clear Cache Partition, use Home to select it. You wont lose any data

There is also a good app to do this called App Cache Cleaner.

Yup, im almost "scared" to say i still use that app on a high end device like the s3 but i do, i dont let it do anythin automaticly but i have the widget on my 2nd home screen and i defy anyone who says it doesnt sort things out when the phone gets a bit laggy :)

Ive actualy found that to be true as well bro. My logical(kal lol) brain told me that no matter how full the internal sd (flash storage) was, it wouldnt affect the phones performance but after a major spring cleaning (went from having under a Gb space on internal SD to having 8) ive realised it does REALLY make a difference. Like, i can see that the phone is more snappy after wiping out the useless crap but the three benchmark apps i use (Quadrant, AnTuTu, and Geekbench 2) seem to agree

Yeah, cache clearing seems a good way to start, otherwise factory reset. In my case, I flash ROMs very often, so I end up factory resetting quite often lol

I use it as well and find that it works great for my phone. I would highly recommend it :).
