Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

This is a thread about the EVO 4G right??? Not Skype, kate plus 8 and among other things being dicussed that has nothing to do with the EVO...

Lets not start to get OT so that the poor admin doesn't have to go through and get rid of the OT posts like a few days ago he spent hours doing.

The front camera on the EVO 4G being functional with the use of video call/chat software is definitely pertinent to this phone. In the past there has been a suggestion that the front facing camera is useless. Just because we talk about software doesn't make it off topic....because once again...it is directly related to the function of this phone.

I can't remember where I read it....but I was reading about people traveling abroad and using services such as Vonage. There are actually a lot of companies that do this sort of thing....and some of them are higher rated than the better known companies. I don't have time to do a search now....but I think there are probably possibilities. With this said, I think Skype is one of the better ones...and with the new mobile app...quite attractive.

I agree....some other company can or will pick up the slack here....and before you know it you will be able to find a WiFi or WiMax spot in Europe, while having a drink....and call home. AND...you won't have to be on a GSM phone to do it! Now...adding a cam to this....awesome! I hope they make it functional...it would be sweet. And...while I'm wishing....I hope they make free services such as Windows Live Messenger...functional with that front cam as well! Kind of makes me wonder if the video chat will work in landscape mode...because I'm thinking that kick stand will come in mighty handy to prevent camera shake for video conferencing.

I believe that WiMax is in a lot of places in Europe...hadn't thought about the possibilities of it becoming a pseudo-world phone, so long as you have WiFi access.

Absolutely...this is why many that want the Incredible are stoked. I had a discussion in that forum about the possibilities. The one downside was that in places such as Europe the wifi...and probably...WiMax...is not usually free. So..you might have to pay....but you could actually make a call. Would be nice if Sprint had something for their subscribers too...especially with the ability to use the front cam on this phone. That would be awesome...and having world capabilities would be sweet as well!

Not when it includes other carriers like Verizon...

I'm just not wanting this thread to become a 100 posts related to verizon and them having a agreement with Skype and how it sucks that Sprint doesn't have anything like that.

Its just like all the WiMAX posts were moved the other day to the thread related to such. If you want to talk about software then start a thread related to such and don't clog up this thread with it. This is just my opinion since the other day it was clogged up with WiMAX posts.

Well, then in that case I guess we shouldn't post anything in this thread until we have official word from Sprint about dates, specs, etc...after all, we have already discussed everything that we know about this phone. Heck, we might as well lock it down.

Chill out buddy. This is the official EVO thread dealing with anything about the EVO. That includes software, competition, and whatever else is pertinent. It's not just like the Wimax posts. This was an official EVO and Wimax thread. The reason the posts were moved is because there was a big e fight going on between a few people and those posts had nothing to do with the phone at all. It just as much about the thread being "clogged" w/OT posts as it is keeping this a friendly environment.

Back OT. EVO ROCKS!!!!

I think this thread is for EVO junkies who need a EVO fix. Kinda like the local watering hole. It's all just anticipation anyway. And I would really like to do video calling. Japan has had it for like a long time already. Thing is, cross carrier and platform is hard.

I for one am kind of happy that no new info came out. Don't get me wrong, i want this thing just as bad as everyone else does. The smaller amount of people getting it for the "cool new thing" tech toy, the better chance the people who really want it will have it. I would much rather have someone who can start making custom roms get this than see it all over TV. That is just my 2 cents, worth nothing to anybody but me. Sorry.

I for one want the information to come out. I am also betting that they don't pull a Palm Pre and have like 3 phones per store. I don't want to be camping out just to get one

The more phones they have, the more they can sell.

is there a way you can set a notification for every post and having it sent to your email ? that way i can simply check on my phone when something is said and not always looking for a computer or carrying my laptop around .

oh we should already know these phoens are going to sell out like crazy . i can't wait until they do some new video reviews on them to. I wonder if people like Noah from phonedog or other sites will get it a little early and do a quick review on them a week or so before release . I love watching them reviews .

Kuddos to Verizon for snagging Skype. You know they knew the Evo was on the way to the masses and had the front facing camera that could take full advantage of Skype. Just think, having a video call to some one while on a train or sitting in the park on a nice day. What a shame we don't get to use it but I'm sure there will be another dev that will see the obvious potential here and bless us with a great app that will rival the Skype thing.

Verizon didn't spend a grip on the Skype deal because they knew the EVO had a front facing camera. These are the comments that make me laugh, just like the Droid Incredible coming out early on purpose lines. You could be right though if VZW have secret spies at Sprint HQ and vice versa. It's just good business, and VZW having the money to spend however they want. NFL wanted Sprint to renew their subscription for a hefty fee, and Sprint declined. NFL then came to Verizon with the offer, and they agreed to it. Days later, VZW bullied Sprint by taking away the NFL app from them lol.

Anyway, Sprint wants a third party to create a VoIP app for the EVO 4G, and they will have suitors, thanks to already releasing the SDK for the phone. Don't know how Verizon's agreement works since Apple and Symbian still have their app, and it's better. Skype could create a app only for the EVO or another 4G capable device, and not on every smartphone device.. Another option is Google, just like how Google could take over your Voicemail functions. I wouldn't be worried about this at all. The media is dubbing your device "The King of the Droids." Everyone will want to have their hands on this phone, and whip out some special programs just for it.

Can you petition a name change to "The Voice of Reason"?

Problem is, there would be nothing left to talk about. Everything about the Evo has already been beaten to death x 10. Until the phone is released or close to being released, what more there is to talk about the phone?

I can't help to notice that the HTC Evo page on Best buy's site not only leaves out the tpe of screen but ALSO the running version of andoid. It is kind of odd that the webpage mentions nothings about android at all isn't it. I'm not saying its not coming with android, please lets not go there, it 100% is, now its just which version....

| By Stewart Patt (snp6636) <-- this Video talks about there being a 10 sec delay to once the video starts recording.

EDit: First post here, been watching this forums for about 1.5 weeks. Seem to be a great communinty here, with great information and a passion for the EVO
Welcome pcsperson. That 10 second delay you mentioned looks like the time it takes to stream the video. You had me thinking there was a 10 second delay in the camera itself.

Yeah, those of two of the great mysteries.

Sorry about that, you are correct. Thanks for the Welcome
