Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I really hope they are able to smooth that video out, it still looks jittery and it's not because of the site it's because of the normal movements that happen when someone holds a camera, they really need good image stabilization. Also as I said before I hope the camera records in at least 30fps, the N1 only records 20 fps so I hope that's not HTC's goal here, it's not smooth enough at 20 fps.

I can't help to notice that the HTC Evo page on Best buy's site not only leaves out the tpe of screen but ALSO the running version of andoid. It is kind of odd that the webpage mentions nothings about android at all isn't it. I'm not saying its not coming with android, please lets not go there, it 100% is, now its just which version....

It's weird that they're being so secretive about the screen type. I understand they might not know which Android version it ships with since they're still testing.. But the screen is an integral part of the hardware. Sprint is either hiding it because they are ashamed it isn't some fancy AMOLED thing. Or they're hiding it because it is something even better.. :D

Keep in mind that video's from the 1.3 mp front camera and not the 720p/8mp rear camera which I'm quite sure will take video at the standard 29.97 fps.

Also keep in mind that Qik currently has 2 quality settings normal or high quality. Neither of which are higher resolution than 480p so even if your recording from the rear 8mp camera it will look 20x better on the phone itself. The Qik app re-compresses a file on the fly before streaming it hence why you notice those few seconds of delay before a stream. I'm currently using the Qik application on the Samsung Moment and even on mediocre lens such as the Moment's 3.2mp camera you can tell it looks much better on the phone than it does once it's uploaded, that's simply because I'm seeing the raw video on the phone while on Qik you see the re-compressed optimized for web video.

yea i notived that to about the video quality . i use qik also and when i first used it and uploaded i was like why did it look better on my phone .

I vote for a surprise - something that's even better than we've seen before, except maybe Super AMOLED.

You won't see Super AMOLED on any other device other than Sumsung for the time being. They developed the technology and are holding it with a closed fist kind of like what Sony did when they first released Blu-Ray. There are talks of them licensing it to Apple for their new 4G phone but I bet HTC wouldn't let go of bucket loads of money like that unless they were SURE they'd make it back.

Even on Sprint's website, it says Android 2.1, but we heard recently that the EVO will come with an updated version of Android, code name Froyo (frozen yogurt). My (guess) is that will be Android 2.5. That will be another thing the EVO will have over the other Android phones that are available now.

Oh, I agree.

Edit: I just meant whatever the screen is, is isn't likely to be better than Super AMOLED.

I remeber it was a big debate on Sprint forums about what type of screen cause they never had the exact TYPE in there spec sheets . Then that same spec sheet we came across Jackson had found out they added the word AMOLED next to the screen but they also had something miss spelled so idk so that left us all like is this a mess up ? Guess we all will have to see . I mean who cares if it doesn't do good in direct sunlight . They have options to adjust to that and nobody will be directly in the sun trying to use their phone anyways . 4.3' AMOLED ugh beautiful .

Since today is a milestone for the EVO 4G forums, I would like to say this:

I would like to welcome all the newcomers to the forum and those that have decided to join us from other forums as well. I've tried to greet each one of you myself, but it's getting a little harder to do that with so many new people coming in every day.

Just one month ago today, twospirits (our moderator) combined most of the threads that were here to form the "official" thread. At the time, there was very little activity, but there were rumors that Sprint would announce the EVO 4G (Supersonic at the time) at the CTIA wireless convention in Las Vegas on March 23-25. As it turned out, all the talk at the convention centered around Sprint's 4G WiMAX service and their HTC EVO 4G phone; the first of its kind in the US to run on WiMAX. From that point on, things have taken off for us in the HTC EVO 4G forums, but I don't think we've seen anything yet. As launch time nears, I expect this forum to get very busy with a large influx of new visitors once the EVO is announced to the general public.

When the EVO 4G launches, it will be Sprint's flagship phone and it will be the best Android device available today. As Self praise stated earlier, it will be "The King of the Droids." Because of all the attention that will be surrounding this phone, I hope we can do it proud. We have a real good group of people here with a reputation for being clean, friendly and vibrant. At this point, less than a month has passed since the EVO 4G was announced and already people are starting to get restless, but that's human nature. My hope is that we can maintain the sense of camaraderie while we wait for our phone. It's going to be difficult at times and we're going to get antsy, but it will be worth the wait in the end. In the meantime, we can all welcome the new visitors and make this a friendly place where new and old visitors alike can come to ask questions and get answers regarding the HTC EVO 4G.

Thank you

If it was a choice between AMOLED or LCD I'd go LCD. I have an AMOLED powered device (the Samsung Moment) and a friend has an HTC Hero in all honesty very little difference on some HD pictures I can even say AMOLED looks a little bit washed out and the colors aren't correct as the overly bright screen makes them look exaggerated. Then there are the sunlight problems but those in my opinion are minor. Now Super AMOLED looks amazing, but I bet we won't see any device that isn't Samsung powered running that screen in the time being simply because they know they have a good thing going.

There is always the possibility of a "new/different" screen technology that Sprint and HTC may have been working on that no one knows about in the consumer market. Samsung is not the only company that can create new sceen tech, although I wouldn't hold my breath on this idea that's all it is, is an idea.

during the EVO announcement event, the Sprint guys said they had a surprise or two up their sleeves. did they ever reveal the surprise? do we have any good guesses?

Well said Bill ! Couldn't of said it better man . So many times I came through this forum but never thought to join . Took Sprint's ups and downs of their new site to join this forum . Here to stay ;-p

Anyways just a link showing some specs which I'm sure everyone has seen but POINTING out the type of screen is not specified only size Sprint - HTC EVO? 4G. So hopefully we are in for a surprise which I think we are and I don't mean just for the type of screen . I think the CTIA was a glimpse . I mean they only focused on the 4G and certain apps . Not the software .

There are rumors of a video conferencing app for the front facing camera nothing has surfaced yet.

Being that they showed the phone with an tft lcd and said it wasn't going to be amoled I wouldn't bet on an amoled being added in at this late stage. As far as superamoled there is now a rumor that the iphone 4g will be using that. I think amoled sounds great but with superamoled out to me a regular amoled would seem like kind of a let down, lcd is bad enough in sunlight but amoled is even worse. I would love to see the phone upgraded to superamoled as much as anyone but I'd be willing to bet it's going to stay lcd which when it comes down to it is fine. Hopefully the evo 2 will have a superamoled display.

For all the people expecting a screen upgrade, don't you think the people testing it would have leaked that the screen had changed if it had? with all of the other info that's coming out I hardly think that would stay secret. There is no way they would do all this testing to work on an lcd just to change it at the last minute, they'd have to start testing the new screen to make sure everything worked properly and if not then they'd have to start over with the new screen, when you change technology you have to test for it you can't just swap it out. I only say that because I don't want people to build themselves up for a let down later on.

Let's not forget they claimed a couple of more surprises at launch.

I'm thinking an HD Evo 4 g iteration and 2.5 android.

Maybe I'm not just thinking.

I don't recall reading that they claim there will be surprises at launch, but I don't doubt your words. Could you please link me to where you read that?
