Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

except at the launch of the Pre Dan Hesse never said he had tricks up his sleeves and palm never said that the device was going to have different RAM/ROM. Get at me!

It passed through the FCC after CTIA so there were time for the CHANGES to be made. This was via Dan.

I doubt tahts a real Evo. Someone had a N1 and tried to sell is as the Supersonic before MWC

still makes no sense. THey would have had a prototype to show at CTIA if it already passed through FCC with the changes. Umm their were tons of rumors about the pre having different rom/ram screen sizes and cpu. HTC has not once said the hardware was gonna be any different. Neither has sprint. What dan has up his sleeve most likely is more 4g devices it makes no point to show one thing and deliver another if it had passed through the FCC then they would have had a prototype of the hardware to show and they wouldn't be publishing it on their own websites to show everyone if its ment to change. Makes no sense from a business and a press attitude. Till the offical sites change I am almost 100% sure what we saw is what we are gonna get. Not sure why that is so bad very nice if you ask me. I am just using common sense here.

Can anyone explain to me why keeping the fact that the EVO passed through the FCC is a good thing at this point??? With all the speculation of when its coming out, the arrival of the Incredible soon, the arrival of the 4th generation Iphone (Iphone 4G sounds misleading to me) in the summer, and the announcement that the Galaxy S is going to att/t-mobile, this should be released so that the public can say, "OK, this phone is definitely on its way".

Maybe I am reading into this the wrong way but unless people come to this forum to read Jackson's posts, they would pretty much be in the dark as to the time frame the EVO is coming out. Having the headlines at sites such as engadget and phonearena say the EVO passed the FCC would just increase interest and potential customers to Sprint.

My opinion. I'm getting it no matter what. :D

the rumors on the release date of the evo have been around since the rumors about the supersonic. Stuff has been leaking out even before jackson said anything I remember the rumors last year about it hell.

You all realize that readers of engadget/gizmodo/bgr are a select group of techie geeks...and readers of a forum like this are even more select. In the grand scheme of things we make up a very, VERY minor fraction of phone sales.

So to argue that because the few of us here and on other blogs/forums are clamoring for this phone will lead to a loss in sales for Sprint is just plain silly. When the advertising starts, everyone else will be interested. Until then, it will be the 2% of us that are eager...the other 98% right now don't have a clue that this phone - or the iPhone 4G or any other new phone - even exist.

and this is what I am talking about common sense. and speaking of advertising anyone seen an evo commercial yet?

Again I want to reiterate how sweet the EVO will be. Unless I'm wrong the 4g Iphone does not support Java without some after market modding, and the Incredible has a smaller screen.

Nothing new but slowly but surely I'm coming across vids I never seen of the EVO but saying and showing the same stuff . I just know it's more to it they all show the same thing qik, layar(sometimes), hot spot, cams. I can't wait Grrrr ! but I just want to post this vid cause around the 2:32 mark he says they are working on a video app : YouTube - HTC EVO 4G on Sprint (Hands-On) .

I really think Sprint is going to have a nice variety here this year and should expect big things next year . not trying to jump ahead but if a successor came for the evo and it has chapters for this phone then i think they should launch each successor to it at the same time every year to let this phone live out and show it's sashay ! I mean it's really that nice . I know HTC moves fast but flagship phones like this need to get the spotlight .

and if nobody know what sashay means = swagger . not trying to make fun of anybody here.

I have to agree with how smooth the HD2 is, I was playing around with the sales man phone in potomac mills mall, and that things is fast and smooth. The graphics were very nice very very nice. He started playing a movie and and that got my blood boiling how nice it was, oh man I can not wait for the EVO money 4G.

I actually bought my Desire/Bravo from these guys they are legit but I talked to the owner they are not in stock yet and the price is of course inflated.

I figured they were a legit site, they showed up on Google Certified Sellers, I just found it to be funny and sad to see it. Funny because of the low info available, and sad because the price ($900)

Just thought I'd contribute a little. I don't want to get into the argument about LCD vs AMOLED and if it's possible for HTC/sprint to do a last minute surprise. But in case you guys are wondering, most of HTC's screens come from a company in China (duh) called Toppoly. They manufacture LCD screens for different phone companies. Their site is down right now but here it is:

http://www.toppoly.net/

Here's their 7" screen:

Toppoly 7" AMOLED display at FPD international

And as for Samsung - yes they manufacture their own screens:

Samsung Mobile Display

And in fact their LCD TV screens are manufactured in a joint venture with Sony. So if you're wondering why their qualities and even features are eerily similar, that's why:

EETimes.com - Joint Sony, Samsung LCD factory opens

I'm an electrical engineer and I'm an active member of IEEE so I get a bunch of parts magazines and used to source parts for HP/Agilent. But been out of that world for a while now...just wanted to add some info in case you guys were wondering

It's way to early for commercials . They said summer man and the iphone comes in the summer you see no commercials for that either yet . so it would get old . phones are usually out already or short weeks before commercials come . ajac i think your taking it to serious man . saying it passed through the FCC will not help anyone who is not like us know what the evo or any phone is . cause they probably don't know what the fcc is . all they may know at the most is a new iphone comes every year in the summer . and people who log onto sprint to pay bills or anything or yahoo to see the ads . but other then that they not so deep in it like us . the evo is set and is in good hands for marketing and all . i think your being a little to negative man . you was like that in the sprint forums to . don't bring it here .

So is a 4.3 AMOLED screen on the EVO possible IYO?

please stop the comments man . ajac will keep them coming for every little thing you say . trust me i sat on the outside watching it all from my htc hero reading the emails for every new post . i no longer posted in the sprint forums because of stuff like this and now that they are back up nobody post anything anymore either because that's all they do is argue or because some don't know the forums are back up now .

the evo is coming and all is good so what's to argue about ? just let whatever be said and move on . this is not myspace lol this is not facebook or some other social site . its a geeked forum .

My opinion? Anything is possible at this point, but based on the summer release timeline it might be too late for a redesign - UNLESS they have been covering up an AMOLED version in the first place. I doubt that though. I honestly think they will release it with an LCD. That's just my opinion.

As far as FCC goes - The FCC's primary duty is to regulate the airwaves so that the devices approved wavelengths and frequencies don't interfere with the operation of other devices. Would a different screen require recertification? Yes because the documents you submit to the FCC lab must comply with the actual device. If it was certified with an LCD screen then that's what sticks. Again ... who knows. HTC couldve already certified both an LCD and AMOLED version. We'll find out when it gets released but like i said...my opinion: LCD

Happy B-DAY SPIR!!!!

Here's the deal though. The only reason the HTC Evo was shown in its "unfinished" state was because it had to be shown. THis was the last opportunity Sprint had to showcase their flagship device at a huge Mobile Event. Had they not done that the world would not be buzzing at ALL about the best phone coming to market- the Evo 4G.

So that is why the Evo was shown with incorrect RAM/ROM, apps, etc. The real stuff was not completed because the event was 3 MONTHS before the release of the phone! So really Sprint did all of us a favor my shwoing it off and informing us that it was doing something big, REAL BIG.

So please lets be nice to everyone because you know nothing more then they do, than i do, than anyone does. Everything i know i tell you so we are all equally educted with the facts =]

Jackson
I agree it had to be shown. Plusl it passed the FCC, and HTC asked the FCC to hold up on releasing the documents until a certain time to avoid the competition to get more info, what ever that may be. I would not be surprised that the final specs will be great ex: the ram /Rom, OS version etc.

I agree that we need to sit back and let nature take its course, cause speculating and rumors is only going to get us into a anxiety attack.

exactly what I've been saying. and Right now I believe Sprint - HTC EVO? 4G over anything said anywhere about the hardware. Now speculating about the release date is all fun and games and no one truly knows this but its fun either way.

haha i was watching a evo vid since the playoffs was at a commercial and this guy was demonstrating LEAP and he called it JUMP . it just stood out to me thought it was funny . I must be goofing right now or something but I really got a good laugh out that . I mean JUMP , LEAP you get the same concept .

Ya gettin punchie UN :D

Zaaye out for the night.

Something I wish or hope for the next step in sense or google android period is letting the apps be in a non fixed area on the screen . meaning i don't want the apps or widgets to only be in fixed areas . like when you see that green box that tells you where you can move it .

cause on the samsung behold II ( my step dad has ) you can have apps and widgets overlap each other and still functional and smooth when tapped on . like i can see his music widget peeking from his third screen . i think that is cool . cause honestly when they started making these screens bigger i personally thought more apps would fit on the screen but its the same number of apps just bigger picture .

not that its bad but i think it would be something new to do . and should let screens 3.7 and higher do landscape on home panels even without a physical keyboard . But they say the mytouch slide will have the keyboard and sense 2.1 so i wonder if or what that would look like when the keyboard is pulled out .

I'm off for the night . Finish watching these games and what not . See what's new tomorrow . Night !
