Apple iPhone gas stoves and iLighters in China.

There's literally no app for this: KIRF iPhone-branded gas stoves seized by Chinese authorities -- Engadget

Ordinarily, if you use your iPhone to fry eggs, it's time to check when your warranty expires. Not so for these KIRF iPhones, which can't make calls or download apps (let alone use Siri) but can fry your bacon rather well. 681 of these bafflingly branded gas stoves were seized by police in Wuhan, each bearing the legend "Apple China Limited." Apparently the units did not come with flame-out protection and only ran iOS 4.1, leading to the swoop. We should probably take that as solid confirmation that the iPhone 6's killer feature is going to involve making brunch on the go.

You just can't make this stuff up! :D ...and it's not an April Fool prank either.

First there was the iPhone you could cook with, now we have the iLighter.

Does throwing the obvious fake Apple brand on this stuff ...

a.) command a higher price?
b.) sell better than the non-branded items of the same quality (or lack thereof)?
c.) really fool anybody?

Nope.

Possibly, they do love famous brand names and logos here. A few months ago I did see some men's shirts that had Apple logo shaped buttons on them.

c.) really fool anybody?

I don't think so, not unless one has been living in a cave.

I guess that's why people pay $50 for knock off Gucci, Agner and Rolex stuff from street vendors in NY and DC when it's obviously fake.

Haven't seen as many of those stalls lately. However, I usually don't frequent the tourist and office heavy areas of downtown where they usually set up shop. :)

Last time I stayed in Georgetown, I had to run a gauntlet of street vendors just to get to the Metro. I guess, like in bakery success, location is everything. ;)

Actually, the lighter could simply be something an advertising specialties company created. You would be amazed at what is available out there. Not sure Apple will sanction things with their logo, but who really knows what some AS company will create.

In China, there are thousands of companies that make this stuff for you, if your cash is good.
