Long time lurker, first time poster..I thought I was up to speed on the tech side of cellies!..I thought getting a Samsung Moment was a good choice (800mghz proc etc.) and while trying to get info on tethering my SM from this uber site. I checked out the EVO threads. (Thank Goodness!) and promptly excersised my right on the 30day Sprint return policy. (just under 3days whew!) That was March 18th and been eargly digesting all the juicy nuggets and painfully now back on a non-smartphone aka grasshopper provider (Cricket) I had 3weeks of goodness w/samsung moment and had to painfully return it, but you guys saved me two years of not being able to enjoy true technological greatness of EVO 4g. I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all the great info and helpful insights.

I am perfectly happy w/all the specs that sprint/HTC has provided thus far with respect to the EVO 4g just the way it is. I mean does this phone really not do anything we been asking for? I been in tech bussiness for longtime with a blue company that makes processors and it's been awhile since being this pumped about technology. I look forward to seeing the threads on EVO 4G tips and tricks when this beast hits the streets. Thanks again for saving me from a 2yr contract w/a inferrior cellie and to those that keep posting juicy tidbits you all know who you are..
Sincerly,

I was eyeing the SM too. Just couldn't justify being satisfied with and decided to wait till somethin came out that really spoke to me. Glad I waited. Before I had to have a hardware keyboard but I'm gonna give it a go with the EVO. Waiting is killing me though! haha

From my own personal experience as an electrical engineer who has gone through the FCC certification process with video products years ago, I can tell you this simply.

1. FCC certification just means..........

...I hope this clarifies your question. The device as far as apps and all functionalities don't have to work or be consumer ready. Just that a testable device can prove that there are no interfering electrical noise that is emitted during normal use.

Dropping the knowledge bombs, I love it. It must have been a pretty cool (probably stressful) job you had. I wish I had a job where I could learn interesting stuff like that.

Welcome BlueScreen! :) I'm sure glad you had the chance to return your Samsung Moment. I hope you can survive the cricket for another month or two without squashing it like a bug from waiting induced frustration.
Out of sheer dumbness/curiousity whats a 'Blue company'?

I was in the slide out h/w kb camp as well aka SM. I think with EVO 4G huge 4.3in screen size, we'll allow for us to adjust to virtual kb. HD2 guys seem to have no prob. (same screen size). I could be wrong on this but I think virtual key size on EVO 4G is larger because of Android OS opposed to WM 6.5 OS on HD2. If so means it would be even easier transition for folks used to slide out kb's.

My thoughts exactly!! Can't hurt to give it a try and lately I been getting tired of the thickness of my TP. One piece construction feels so good in the hand also. (Been to T-Mo about a billion times) lol

Thank you for the welcome,

My can of insect spray talks to me daily, it's all I can do not to spray my Cricket cellie with it :P I been waiting for something worth while to take the plunge in a 2yr contract amd thought the Samsung Moment/Sprint Unlimited combo was that ticket until being saved by Androidforums and was blessed by the light! (EVO 4G)

The Blue Company I work for is where all the blue people live thinking up things like Core i3, i5, i7 processor and yet to be announced hexacore processor Core i12. It will be nice when nano-wire technology comes out for cell-batteries and we could see proc like those in future EVO's

Thanks again,

Ok, this will show my age. It's something totally OT but its kinda funny to some older folk that know it.

When I was 13 I got my gramma to buy me an IBM PCjr!!

I still have it!! It's kinda like a antique. hahaha I think I can still boot it up!

That was the 'blue company' I was suspecting ;)
Haxacore!? Hexayeah! Sounds like a dream.

I was with You and Maui in the physical keyboard crew, but am reluctantly going to try to make the switch. At least we are all in this thing together right?

I tried out the HD2 at T-mo but was pretty disappointed with it's keyboard, your idea about Android having a better/wider key configuration eases me greatly. Part of my problem with the HD2 screen was the giant security device construction grade epoxied right to the middle of the screen that tethered it to the wall so no-one would walk off with it.
I will probably try to check out the Incredible at a Verizon store after it is released as well.

Grammar isn't my strong suit...but could/couldn't care less is just a peeve of mine.

well i'll never make that mistake again! i'll be watching and make sure to correct you when it happens. glass houses.

but i do get annoyed when i see these two and over again -

"loose" vs. "lose"

"rediculous"

GAHHH ajac you need to get this straight, the device they showed at CTIA was a PROTOTYPE! I can't stress that enough. For pete sake there were two fricken models there! One with the red grill that all the sprint employees had and the silver one via HTC.I realize the one that we will get will be silver but thats not the point, there were two different models still in existence then, and we dont know the differences between them yet....

As far as it passing through the FCC. This was done after CTIA so the final phjone is indeed complete =]. The problem here is, and this goes right inturn with what self praise said, there are only 12 real in circulation! HAHAHA, i love Dan(my source) but he is not that important! The only people to get one are Dan Hesse and Clan. SO lay OFF

The Evo will be much smoother than the HD2, everything just flows soooo nicely! I promise =]

Thanks for everyone for sticking by me, you guys are the best and i will stay here because of you and ignore the hater.

this EVO can get here quick enough. i really need a new f****** phone.

this upgrade will be a quantum leap over the Centro i'm using in so many ways. i just hope that the PIM is acceptable.

Gekko brought up a good point. I know this is off topic but how would you transfer WinMo PIM from a HTC Mogul to lets say a HTC EVO? I tried googling but all I get is the Google Sync topics.

that was a different point than my point but if i understand your question correctly, all you need to do is use the free Google Sync EAS WinMob Option to sync your PIM Contacts and Calendar to Gmail PIM. then just sync your EVO to Gmail PIM Contacts and Calendar "Cloud" Server.

Google Sync for your phone

my point was the PIMs on the Android Device vs. ease of use and simplicity of the PalmOS PIMs.

i'll be using SyncML (Synthesis App) to transfer my Centro Contacts to Gmail and EAS (Versamail) to transfer my Calendar to Gmail. this will be a one time process the day i get my EVO.

You're always welcome here, Jackson and we all want you to stick around. I don't think anyone brings more excitement to this forum than you do. As far as the prototype thing goes, when Sprint announced the EVO at CTIA, they said the phone wasn't finished and that we could expect some new surprises when the phone gets closer to launch.

Some people are getting down on Sprint because we haven't heard more about the phone, but a month hasn't even gone by since it was announced in Las Vegas. If it wasn't for that big show, we might not even know about the EVO 4G yet. I'm thankful for the specs, the photos and the videos that we have.

From this point on, some of us will be getting antsy, but the release date isn't that far away.

I hear you. My wife has the hero and she makes fun of my instinct all the time and how s l o w it is. This will be my first android and first highend phone. I can not wait!!!!!!:)

i've never played with an Instinct but i've read nothing but complaints about it. so much for it being the iphone killer way back when! i have played with a launch Hero and i thought it was OK but i wasn't blown away by it. it seemed kind of clunky and slow. i'm hoping the EVO will be night and day given the Snapdragon 1GHZ, more RAM, 4G, and newer Android 2.X and optimized Sense.

my Centro is great for PIM, phonecalls, email, stream radio, FTP, viewing office docs, and very basic web surfing, but the small screen, wimpy browser, antiquated OS, etc etc etc is crushing me right now.

i can't wait for real web browsing on a 4.3" display and real PUSH email and HTML email!

BTW - you should probably start that OTA EAS WinMob--->Gmail PIM syncing now so you'll be all set when you get your EVO. the reason i am waiting is because syncing my Centro (PalmOS) to Gmail is intermittently flaky and buggy - hence - i will do it one time immediately before i get my EVO.

I'm just now catching up on the last few pages. People are forgetting a critical thing regarding the screen type: The HD2 already uses a 4.3 inch 800x480 TFT LCD screen...I would bet my bottom dollar the Evo will use the same one.

We're going to be covering this when the EVO gets closer to launch. I haven't studied the Google Sync that Gekko mentioned, so that might very well be the answer, but everyone that plans on getting the EVO should open a Gmail account before you get the phone.

I have the HTC Hero and I have Gmail, but I didn't understand the connection between the two at first. What I learned is an Android phone will automatically read from your Gmail contact list and automatically import them into your phone.

Back when the Nexus One was released I read a post from one person that said they had hundreds (well, maybe not hundreds) of contacts that ended up on their phone and a majority of them weren't even people they had contact with any longer.

For those getting anxious about the EVO, one thing you can do right now is open a Gmail account. If you already Gmail, all you have to do is select contacts and start editing. Even after you've had the phone for awhile, you can edit your contacts in Gmail. I find that sometimes it's easier to edit from my desktop computer than it is with my phone.

From what I understand, the EVO does support Exchange, so that should help corporate users, but you will also be able to bring in your contacts from MS Outlook. Whether you're using Outlook or Gmail, you can still get your contact information just the way you want it before you get your new phone. If none of these fit, you might try the import/export feature from your e-mail program so you have a head start.
