Does Jelly Bean break FoxFi??

Question: After Jelly bean update, does FoxFi still work???

I've been using the paid vers. of Foxfi (WiFi Hotspot app) since getting my Reverb and I'm very anxious to know if it still works after installing Jelly Bean.

Thanks,
Rob

Me too. I have found that it does break Foxfi and any other app that can give you a hotspot. PDAnet, the owner of FoxFi, claims that you can fix the issue using FoxFi 2.12, but I had no love with that one either. Upon further research I found that CWM tether app can work for this but ONLY if you have rooted. I am having the same issue and would love to know:

1. how to root this device having 4.1.2. Poot and Ministro no longer work and the bin4ry method does not work.

or

2. How to get ICS back using Odin or the Linux equivalent to Odin

My problem with that is that I would need a stock image for Odin. Honestly Odin scares the heck out of me because it is so easy to go horribly wrong and brick a device.

I am able to do USB tethering on my Linux system using EasyTether, but I have many wifi devices and no broadband connection. I really relied on FoxFi to connect my devices, as I live in the sticks and I don't want to get suckered into a contract deal with a satellite broadband provider.

I have some links to an Odin CWM and a ZIP for a Stock ICS Rooted rom if that would be any help.

Can you link me? Also it has been since the Samsung Intercept since I used Odin if that tells you how long it has been. Which files do I need and what boxes do I check? Is there a specific version of Odin that I should use?

Yea, I will walk you though it here:

-1.) Download Odin and extract the zip to your desktop - http://zjones.x11s.org/android/reverb/Odin3-v3.04.zip

-2.) Download the CWM odin file (don't extract) - http://zjones.x11s.org/android/reverb/reverb-cwm-test-8.tar

-3.) Put your phone into download mode, hold volume down and power, when you get the warning, push the volume up key.

-4.) Open up Odin

-5.) Plug your phone into a USB port.

-6.) In odin (on the left) you should see a blue rectangle light up.

-7.) Once that rectangle is lit up blue, click the PDA button and select the reverb-cwm-test-8.tar that we downloaded in step 2.

-8.) Click "Start" in Odin.

-9.) The progress bar on your phone may not move, don't worry, mine did the same.

-10.) After a few seconds to a minute or so, your phone will reboot.

NOW YOU HAVE CWM!

-11.) Close Odin

-12.) Download the stock rooted zip - http://www.waywardpilgrim.net/android/samsung/sph-m950/mod/reverb-stock-rooted-signed.zip
and Download the deodexed template - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/69003412/Stock Deodexed Template.zip

-13.) Once those are downloaded, copy them to your phone.

-14.) Boot your phone into recovery (volume up and power)

-15.) Flash both of the files and factory data reset.

Now you should have a stock rooted phone. If you need anymore help, let me know.

Thank you so much for that. I will have to wait and try it when I get to somebody's Windoze machine or I'll have to remember what I used on Linux as it's equal. I'm currently using Ubuntu 13.04. On step 13, do you actually mean the root folder of SD card?

Eh, I'm not on my Linux machine right now, but I know on linux you use heimdall

Sounds like maybe you have PDAnet, if so, does wired USB tethering still work after the JB update with PDAnet? I need that about once a month to check my email.

tyler1998 now has a root method for JB. Check it out in the All things root forum.

Can anyone else confirm that the NEW Jelly Bean update for Reverb BREAKS Foxfi??

How about the FoxFi Add-in? This is supposed to help fix phones where FoxFi alone won't work.

I see that thanks. I think that the question that we are asking about FoxFi is not an issue with root, but is a general incompatibility of FoxFi with JB. Last I looked a few months ago FoxFi didn't work on most JB, but maybe that has changed now. I'm not sure if having root factors in for FoxFi (although it does for programs like wireless tether) That's why the OP is asking specifically if FoxFi will work with JB.

I'd just like to know about USB tethering with PDAnet, either with or without root. PDAnet does not require root for wired USB tethering.

As for rooting, I had it rooted before, but the new method seems to involve installing CWM, which (I'm not an expert) might prevent future updates without returning to stock? Not sure. I'll probably do it anyway of course.

Tried it. Doesn't work. If we can get root though I'm willing to bet that the CWM tether app will work. I'm gonna try the method tyler posted using hemidall. The downloads will take forever though because I was forced to use easytether and its slow.

Got my update.
FoxFi does not work (trial version, 2.12.5)
PDAnet (paid version) USB tethering does work.

I have not rooted yet, when I do I can try wireless tether for android, that worked previously.

I could not get wifi tether for root to work with jb. It acts like it's working and my tablet sees it, however my tablet sticks at "obtaining ip address" then starts the scan all over again. So maybe I'm not setting it up right. If anyone figures it out please let me know.

I am currently running PDANET + (paid version) with the jelly bean update. I can confirm a few things:

The update does disable Wi-Fi hotspot.

USB to PC does still work for me.

Bluetooth DUN has limited success on my tablet. You can browse internet pages but that is about all. Most apps require actual WiFi to work. Netflix, YouTube, Candy Crush Saga, etc are a no go using Bluetooth.

How I do miss ICS. Damn these greedy phone companies.

Have you tried wifi tether(trevE mod) found on xda? It wireless for me

Hi guys, i have been lurking on this site since i got my Reverb months ago and things have always worked so i never had reason to register, but now i want to do the update to Jelly bean and it won't run because I rooted my phone some time ago and have CWM installed. I have tried these instructions at least 4 times with no luck, every time i download and install the update to JB I keep going right back into CWM on reboot when i try to apply the update i get the following;

CWM-based Recovery v6.0.2.3
E:Invalid command argument
Finding update package.....
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed

I try to install the update and i get installation aborted.

Please Help, i have honestly followed the instructions step by step at least four times.
