Help Stop phone unlocking in pocket WITHOUT using a password

Herbi_1

Lurker
So I've got a Galaxy S3 and I've always had a password on it which is great as it keeps people out and stops me unlocking it in my pocket and calling/ texting people.

However, I've got to realising that, to use an extreme example, I collapse when out alone, people need to be able to get into my phone to see the ICE (in case of emergency) numbers for my family. This kind of thing is important to me as our phones are, at the end of the day, one of our main sources of security at all times.

I've also realised that if the phone is lost or stolen, me having a password on it won't help me get it back so what's the point?

Because of this, I've taken my password off and just enabled swipe. However, I'm now unlocking it accidentally in my pocket and ended up ringing and texting everyone and also missing notifications.

So, quite simply, does anyone have an opinion to discuss or any kind of solution to this?

Thanks a lot!

tight fit pants? if the phone is in sleep mode it shouldnt happen. certainly doesnt for me and i never use a password.

I'm guessing it's because the Home button turns on the phone. You can disable that feature so that only the Power Button turns on the phone, but it requires that you be rooted. Here's a link on how to do it after root.

You could put the ICE at your owners information that way people will always be able to find the ICE number and your phone won't unlock in your pocket

This is kinda why i dont use a password. If the phone gets stolen but is unusable, the thief will throw it away. I want the thief to use and charge the phone long enough for my anti theft apps to let me track them down and tell them theyre very naughty :)

Just curious what good would a pass code to lock the phone do if you have the unlock code on the wall paper?

Prevent the phone from doing stuff by accidentally pressing the home button?
I think this is in fact pretty good solution exactly for what he was looking for. No ?

I don't think it's a rooted function, but can't you have the lockscreen without any code? That's what mine does, I just swipe to unlock and I'm on my Home screen.

Yeah mate you can just have a swipe to unlock but the stock one seems easy to unlock accidentaly. Id try a 3rd party lockscreen like Go Locker where you have to touch and swipe on a certain point to unlock it kinda like you do to answer a call
Problem is that the Home button bypasses it

Which brings it back to my post #3 above! :D

Yup lol. Were in a vicious circle mate. I say root :)
I actualy like Home waking my phone and i dont even use a lockscreen at all but i use a samsung flip case when the phones in my pocket and it seems to prevent accidental waking, i have a habit of putting my hands in my pockets though and pressing the Power button by mistake. Do u know how to prevent Power from waking the phone but still let it turn screen off?
EDIT just made a thread to ask how its done instead of taking this one further off topic lol sorry OP

Declare the contacts to be emergency contacts in the contact settings. This way you can hit 'emergency call' on the lock screen and you can call / view these contacts without unlocking the phone. Like any other emergency number (999/911/112).
